"that Sony plans to add roughly ten PlayStation titles to the PlayStation Store each month"

never heard that before...

should be interesting to see what consoles get the best old titles, or if everyone gets similar titles equally

(to be released in Japan)... hmmmmmm. Japan has different licensing then the US... I wonder is Sony is having trouble getting permission to have these games in the US available!

It might be mostly Sony published PSX titles for the US (which are mostly great games mind you, but just very few!)

Why doesn't Sony just realease ALL PS1 games right away? Same with Nintendo? I mean I dont want to wait 2 years for a game I used to play just because Sony doesn't think many people will buy it.

I want to download a copy of FF anthology, I own the game already but with the horrendous load times its unplayable, its worth rebuying at a reasonable price just to stop the load times (HDD access I assume will speed that up).. not to mention the glitches playin on PS2.

my HDloader is awesome on PS2 but it cant play PS1 games. which is a bugger :(

@Draco
Because Sony doesn't own the rights to FF Anthology, and I'd be willing to bet each game from a compilation like that Square would rather sell seperately, we'll have to wait and see.

@Petrie

well that was just an example, but im sure Sony could release ALL sony software immediately, even if they needed to rip a copy of the game for some reason it couldn't take long.

Nintendo should be able to have every Mario and every Zelda for download immediately. yet they are holding out. who knows for how long?

1st party software should be there 100% at launch. otherwise you will never know when something is released. it irks me that all they need to do is hit the *let people buy this* button, yet they have a timer on it making us wait 1 month, 2 months, 2 years. before we can actually do it.

Cool and all, but I'd rather download a SNES or N64 cart than PS discs, especially when some of the best PS games came on multiple CDs.

Quoted from an older Joystiq article:

"In addition, UK PSP Magazine reports that up to 7,000 PlayStation titles will be available for download by the end of 2007."

10 games a month, yet 7,000 by the end of 2007. Please explain, I'm not an expert in calculus.

Draco:

First they need to get the licensing again for songs, voice actors, etc.

Then they need to program it so that it will play on the PSP and PS3 without any bugs.

Then they have to program extra controls in order for the PSP to play it.

It's all a very complicated setup. Just be happy youre getting 10 a month...

end of slow load times

Gee 10/month, now why didn't Nintendo announce...oh wait! Nevermind...

Jumping Flash!??

Must... control... self...

That would be quite excellent to have Jumping Flash on the PSP or (eventually) PS3.

Following reasons for releasing 10 games per month

1) Licensing issues
2) Easier to fix bugs when you only release 10/month and then you can quickly build up from their
3) Launch window should focus on purchasing new games and new game development
4) If they had 100 games on the site at once, people would get lost in the options and only purchase the titles they are familiar with fromt the past. By limiting the options, people will purchase from the list of 10 new games and anxiously wait for the next wave of games to come the next month (I couldn't imagine trying a new game if I had to browse 7,000 titles at once). They don't want to flood the service and have people purchase all the games they want at once and forget about doing it later. A slow release schedule will fill the gap between PS3/PSP game releases and give people something to hang around on the store more frequently.

JUMPING FLASH!

That's awesome. At least one of the games will be worth playing. Quite frankly, there isn't a high percentage of games from that generation that stand the test of time. Jumping Flash is still fun, and of course FF VII and the N64 flagship titles.

Anyone know if you have to own a PS3 to get these, or does just having a PSP work? I'm not dropping $600 to for Taladegga Nights and Everyone's Golf 2.

Also, is the Wii's Virtual Console going to be able to download NES and SNES games to the DS?

Matthew, you have very good questions.

Regarding Vconsole... nobody knows yet, probably not even Iwata.

Regarding PSP, I was always under the impression that the store would be separate from the PS3 and PSP, but its looking more and more like that isn't the case.
