World of Warcraft machinima contest winners
17
The Blizzard/Xfire-sponsored World of Warcraft machinima contest is happening now on the lovely Stanford campus in Palo Alto, CA. The event kicked off with a screening of the 1st and 2nd place winners for all four categories: Music Video/Dance, Comedy, Short Feature, and Drama/Action. The winners earned some pretty sweet prizes, like an Athlon FX processor, an XFX GeForce 7900 GT video card, and more. The Best Overall winner, Jason Choi's operatic Edge of Remorse (embedded above), wins a "top end enthusiast PC" worth $5,000, courtesy of that other processing giant, AMD. Congrats, Jason!
We've embedded all eight winning videos after the break, along with links to the runners-up in each of the four categories.

I'm trying to figure out how they did some of these things. Does Blizzard have some kind of client only server that people can just screw around on?

They use WoW Model Viewer, Wow Map Viewer and lots of editing...

Wow. That was surprisingly good. No voice acting, either, or text. I'm impressed.

A nerd who already has a good enough comp to run WoW makes a video about 3 emos and wins another comp that he clearly doesn't need or deserve?
I hope he chokes and dies on a Dorito or something. Like that nerd that made that Goldeneye mod for HL2. lmfao

That video sucks. Just watch South Park instead. It's much better.

There needs to be a time limit on all Machinima contests. That was way too long.

That was an awsome video, it kind of had similarities to Record of Lodoss War, the Beld/Fahn fight.

Screw that winner, I feel they didn't really use much of WoW to make it. I think the Ballad of the Noob was the best...real time!

there are lots of clever ways to orchestrate much of what they did using video editing software. most of it involves matting the actors into a seperate background vid to allow for a lot of the "camera" effects like depth of field and motion blur, etc.
thats why it looks so good.

T-Bag you truly are a d-bag. Nickster is a fucking saint. You aren't worthy of living. I can't believe I am actually wasting my time replying to your pathetic excuse of bandwidth.

- Angelo,
What's a "Nickster"? I'm just going to go out on a limb and presume he's the mastermind behind this pile of horse shit, am I right? Well either way it sounds like he's been excessively using lube on you ass for more reasons than one.
"You aren't worthy of living."
Aside from the fact that that makes no sense whatsoever, you do realize that you're defending a guy who makes videos for an online pc game right? Just knowing the guy makes you instantly gay, but to defend him/her/it as well... Just wow man. LOL

Craftingworlds.com just started up a new section of the site dedicated to the creation of machinima in WoW. They also have up the inside shots and talk about the creation of the South Park episode from the machinima perspective. :) Should check it out www.craftingworlds.com
