At this rate of sales figures:

It takes 5 weeks for the PSP to sell what the DS sold in 1 week.

It'll take 5 months for the PSP to sell what the DS sold in 1 month.

It'll take 5 years for the PSP to sell what the DS sold in 1 year.

Ludwig.......

Why you only post 25 times in one month is beyond me.

You are the ONLY contributor I actually look forward to reading. I had a lot of fun guessing which system was which before I read the "answers"........I was almost dead on.

Anyway...I'm VERY surprised so many JP gamers are still buying that many systems so close to the release of the PS3 and Wii.

Do they really just have that much more disposable income than we do?

Yeah, AJ, I get that a lot. :)

Derbeste, I think you're probably in the minority, but I'll be writing a lot more in the near future once my other commitments have been resolved (or dissolved).

"It'll take 5 weeks for the PSP to sell what the DS sold in week year."

Or, Eleven weeks for the xbox, Gamecube and Xbox 360 combined to sell what the PS2 did this week.

Pointless really isn't it?

What's all this hubbub about the "worst post ever"? Doth thou not knoweth Ludwig? This is good stuff. :3

And pardon me for saying so... is it just me, or was MC Hammer NOT the whitest rapper you ever did see? Listening to this video, aside from the searing, painful nostalgia it brings with it, it instantly reminds me of one of those "be cool, stay in school" educational raps with the emcee who looked like Screech off of Saved By The Bell. How did this guy ever sell records?

Thanks, dude. I needed that.

Derbeste: If you think about it, none of those products are likely to reach complete saturation (one unit per consumer), but as the projected market gets closer to saturation, it's going to keep bleeding out a little. That's why we keep seeing sales even though they may be thinning out or decreasing (in some cases, the bleed even sets off a new ripple in sales, hence the green markers still remaining). I mean, I'm no economist, but that's how I understand it. Correct me if I'm way off.

why is that pointless to note? the PS2 s the most successful console of all time (to date). nothing wrong with noting that, and teh fact that it still sels very well... similarly, nothing wrong with noting how the DS is outperforming the PSP.

actually #5 If you factor in the percent change for the psp and the ds it would be

the psp will take 7 weeks to sell as many as ds sell in 1 week

the maximum amount of psp that could ever be sold in japan is 323,230 so in 3 weeks the ds will have sold more in japan then the psp will ever sell this week forward in japan.

in a year ds will have sold 361,683,946 ds in japan

I know the psp will not continue to drop that fast, and ds will not continue to increase that fast but heres for hoping :).

MaX PL -

All the pre-sales don't count in these. When the bundles are actually released, expect a gigantic spike in sales.

"When the bundles are actually released, expect a gigantic spike in sales."

It was limited to 10K units, and the reports were that it was "selling briskly", not that it sold out immediately. With 10K units spread across the country, "selling briskly" could mean that the few retailers contacted in downtown Tokyo had sold 4 out of their 5 units each.

Bottom line is there's not going to be any "gigantic" spike in sales. Wouldn't surprise me to see 6,000 or so Xbox 360's sell the week of 12/7. *Would* surprise me to see all 10,000, but not impossible, I guess. Won't see any more than that, though, and you can bank that.

The following week it'll be back down to 1,200-1,500 units regardless. And you can quote me on that. Everything I've ever said about the Xbox 360 in Japan here so far has absolutely, 100% come true, going all the way back to before it was even on sale when I was one of the only people here who seemed to realize how badly it was going to tank. There's nothing that can save this system there. That's just the truth.

It seems like Saber Saws are still all the rage in Japan nowadays. I wonder, do you buy them at Japan's Toys R Us and DS Lite systems at their respective Home Depot? Less than a month to see Wii vs. PS3. That will be exciting.

Jeff, I had been told it was 100K Xbox 360 bundles? So it's really only 10k? Hmm.

After that, it looks like the DS no longer sells 150 k on a "normal" week anymore, but has dropped to about 120k baseline. We'll see if that continues to fall (is likely imo)
