New World Series PS3 ad is weak sauce
104
Sony aired the above turd of an ad for the PS3 during game four of the World Series last night on Fox (Go Tigers!). After the well produced ads from yesterday, it's hard to critique this one. It's just a pile of non-emotional, non-descriptive and confusing crap. A crying doll with "screenshot" devil eyes sitting next to a shiny PS3 in a white room. Doesn't make sense to us either, and we scrutinize video games at an unhealthy level.

It pays homages to 2001: A Space Odyssey
The scene opens with a doll and a black PS3, the PS3 standing upright like some sort of monolith - an important structure. The doll suddenly awakens even though it is not alive. The doll is animated and is enamored by this PS3 it looks at it like a curious animal. The doll breaks into laughter showing its excitement, the doll is showing signs of intelligence. The doll begins to cry while it's eyes displays the gifts of the PS3 and clearly the emotions are cognitive. The doll has been given all this by a PS3 that has not moved nor did it speak to the doll. Then we see the PS3 floating in the air the doll calling it mama, the PS3 has given the doll life and sub heading "play beyond" appears. What was impossible, has happened and the PS3 is what made it happen. Bringing intelligence to gaming where player and game system are enhanced.

On the sony ad, I think it is a little unsettling at first, but to even attempt such a complex notion thur the use of tv is a bold move for sony. If we take the commerial from a metaphoric perspective it is safe to say that the baby represents and is a bold comtempory comentary about gaming and the game industry as a whole including sony themselves present-day. It is stating that in past that games were a premative attempt and gaming is and always has been in its infancy. Now, with that arrival of the cell and ps3 the crude and simple child of gaming/gaming industry can now take its first steps,as sony see it with its ps3, into the natural and rightful progression that gaming should be. However, that premise is lost in the muck of advertisement. The baby is crying because growth and progrss as we all know can be a painful transition, history tells us that. Moreso, instead of crying(complaining) about the high cost of next gen all we have to do is stand up walk over and imbrace it. Thus, the contradiction of the baby smiling at the site of the ps3 and then crying. Let, the future of gaming begin with the 360,ps3,and wii. Its just a quick thought thats all.

I think it's supposed to be like 2001: A Space Odyssey. Apart from the fact that it still doesn't make that much sense WITH that information
