EA seeking extra cash from collectors

Don't worry folks, knowing EA I'm sure you can get half this stuff on EA for twice the price.

I'm sick of all these collector's editions. Do people actually buy these when they have the choice?

Charging 10 bucks more for a metal case and usually just some videos that can be found on the internet doesn't seem worthwhile to me. I can almost understand when it comes to games like Halo that are highly anticipated and may become classics... but Need For Speed? Clearly they are trying to make purchasing the collectors edition worthwhile by adding extra content, but it still seems kind of stupid to me.

Besides, I prefer the regular cases as it keeps all my games uniform and I can put them in my DVD rack.

Heres the real question though Tre, are they ADDING content for the collecters edition, or WITHHOLDING content from the original game to make an extra buck?

This is the absolute worst type of collector's edition. Usually the extra stuff are physical items like t-shirts, figurines, mugs, etc.

What we have here is content that has already been developed, but, intentionally held back from the main game. Its not clear if the content was meant for the main game or it actually took them extra effort to produce (which would somewhat warrant the extra cost).

Im thinking that it was stuff that was in the production pipeline, that was identified as 'extra valuable' and that people would be willing to pay extra for. So, its being held back for the collector's edition and for sale on XBL piece-meal.

For EA, the $10 is pure profit, it costs them nothing to burn the extra content on the disc and the 2nd DVD contains footage that they shot anyways.

Sad, but there will be people willing to pay for it.

My attitude is not to care about this stuff. If everyone just ignores this "premium" stuff, then hopefully they give up on it. I don't need a Mazda RX-7 to enjoy NFS:C. There's already a billion cars in the game. Why spend $10 for a couple more?

As to people complaining about map packs, like the one with GRAW. They've been around for years before Xbox Live. I bought both Blue Shift and Opposing Forces for the first Half-Life game something like 6-8 years ago. Those weren't free and they didn't offer a ton of new gameplay.

I'll add this to my list of reasons to hate EA...

If you care at all about the gaming industry, please don't buy their sh*t.

It is not a fair deal. It's crap. Just like the game. I was going to buy this (I really liked NFS:MW), but then I played the demo... It just doesn't even compete with the other games on the system. There are at least a half-dozen driving games better than this, including their own effort last year. Poor game, and even worse "Collector's Edition". I hope nobody is supporting this crap, along with the Tiger and Godfather BS EA is trying to sell.

EA finds a way to ruin everything. I don't mind a collectors edition where the hardcore fan gets a collectors item with the game, but charging people extra to get the full game content is just a rip off. I really hope other game companies have some dignity and don't follow suit.
