GoW remix an instant classic
14
Here's another Gears of War trailer remix set to a classical piece that I really should be able to identify. Kind of sets the mood for impending violence.

Why slow and sad songs? The song is better that the original though. The original is pretty darn Emo.

I prefer the original over this. What is going on in the trailer feels more suited to the song in the 1st one.
Also, I'm annoyed by emo as much as the next guy, but a song being emotional or kinda sad doesn't automatically make it emo. Emo is just like a Goth, only much less dark and much more Harry Potter. That song was around before emo was even called emo.

Now lets see that with some rag time music instead.

Emo doesn't exist.
On a more productive note, that song is famous for being used in scenes like that, where there is excessive violence to the point that the viewer is kept from actually seeing it.
I forget what movie it was but it used that song as an overdub of the scenes at the end of the movie where most of the major characters are just getting ripped to shreads by the antagonists. I really wish I could remember what movie it was because I remember it being an excellent modern tragedy.

It's so hilarious that emo is basically a pale imitation of things like Mad World and that someone here would say that Mad World is emo.
Is that post-post-post modern?

I like this remix a lot more than the other ones. Mad World had a nice slow pace, and low smooth notes that matched the video. All of these other remixes that try to use upbeat rock, and dark heavy metal songs to mix with a somber display of the war on Sera.
The use of Moonlight Sonata is well matched to the video's tone, and focus. The version that was used is of a straining quality and constantly changing in the volume, but it fits the advertisement much more than any of the other remixes.

Wow - this actually sets a very somber mood and works even better than Mad World, for me. Mad World is far too tightly associated with Donnie Darko to be taken seriously. (It's almost like putting "Stuck in the Middle with You" as the backdrop to any videogame -- all it does is make you think of Reservoir Dogs.)
The other remix trailers seemed to be paying homage to the fact that DD was a movie set in the 80s and used other 80s themed songs in the film. Kudos to the guy who thought to use this song.
