I already got my Wii preordered at EB Games, but I decided to go by Toys R Us on the way home to see how big the line was. There were six people camped out, five of them there for the PS3 and one of them for Wii. The manager told them that there were 6 PS3s and 15 Wiis. They all agreed that they were going to get the Wii sometime later "because it's awesome", but that the "Ps3 came first".

The development environment for Vista and DirectX 10 is so similar to 360 (in some cases identical), that you'll see a lot of 'exclusives' from 360 magically appear next summer. Not to mention the Unreal Engine 3 already developed for PC as well. I recall Bungie saying Halo 2 would "NEVER" appear on PC, in their very own forums. And lookie what happened. Permalink this, you'll thank me later.

Because Cliffy B demoed GoW running on Vista, that's how TopaZ knows. Just like how Halo and Halo 2 were Xbox "exclusive." Sure, sure.

But I'm in Hawaii now, gotta love the island climes.
Also, no Daylight Savings Time here.
And I need a Wii.

Ok...I think it's reasonable that people are waiting inline at that hour for a PS3 and Wii afterall I'd do that. But I think it's ridiculous that they think that's cold. A dude is wearing friggin' jean shorts, how damn cold could it possibly be? Wake up to -40 degrees celsius and then we'll talk.

If I ever become depressed with myself, I'll just look back at the time idiots camped outside for pre-order. It'll be one of those "at least I'm not that bad" moments.

Seriously, people around here have been camped since 10AM Saturday morning. I think if you're there that early, it should be considered loitering. Of course, it was considered loitering at a few Toys R Us stores today (people who didn't leave were "escorted").

#1 Just because there's a few pre-orders doesn't mean that's the exact number of consoles they're getting on launch.

#2 If you're going to camp, then why not camp the night before launch. Camp outside a Best Buy for 6 hours, and get a damn console. It takes less time than this BS, and you're pretty much guaranteed a console.

Pre-orders: 10 to 20 hours
Console @ Launch: 5 to 8 hours

Am I the only one who sees a problem?

it is sickos like that that go and buy consoles people want and sell them at ridiculous prices that should be banned from buying next-gen consoles. It means that the people who want the PS3 but do not have $2000 have to wait until next year.
This is the same kind od thing that goes on with concert tickets.
If you don't want the thing then don't f*****g buy it! Let someone who does want it have it.

i don't get the "selling on e-bay" thing. it's like people that sell food at expensive price during war time, making easy and fast money on the back of poor people. This people are not better than those people that we all hate so much.
I really hope that there will be too much people that will try to sell their system on e-bay and that most of them will have to sell them at losses.
This world is so ugly, so many people outthere just thinking about making more money... please everybody don't buy anything from this parasites !!

Are you comparing video games to food? Food is a necessity, nobody's gonna die if they can't afford a ps3.

But I agree that these guys are nuts. I went around all night to 6 T.R.U around LA and no luck. The most ps3's that any of them had was 8 and they were all spoken for by the time I got to the line. At one store they were camped out since friday! I can't believe that.

Comparing a PS3 at launch to food at war? Not a good comparison. Food you *need* to live. A PS3 is a luxury.

Don't forget that pretty soon, there will be a lot more for everyone else, at slightly more realistic prices.

ps3 is not a necessity (we all agree with that :)
My point is that you can compare people that sell food at higher prices during war to people to the ones that will sell their system on e-bay. They don't add any value to the product they're just making easy profits, profiting of a situation where the product is in limited stock. how far can this people go just to make money?

4:30am in SA Texas: i arrived at 1 of 3 stores and there were roughly 12 people there. i asked how many ps3's were going to be preordered, and they said six. A nice fellow said the other stores had even more people. Too late. i could have stayed for the wii, but i decided to head out. For youpeople who think that the people who are camping are a bunch of idiots, you need to get slapped. Its the dedicated TRUE gamers who actually show up because they care enough, or the people who want to make some quick money. We are actually helping the fat rich people who dont want to wait in line, but have to get a ps3 no matter the cost (i can name plenty). You know if you were rich you would do the typical thing.

Toys R us is one of the worst stores ever. I was waiting outside in the Wii line at 4 in the morning. The manager had come out and broken us up in lines, let us know that the cutoff was 15, of which I was 11, and said there were 5 ps3's and formed a seperate line for that. He neglected to tell us that ps3 preorders were allowed a chance at the Wii also. So I got screwed out of my preorder because either
a) some spoiled brats parents are laying out well over 1,000 dollars for their kid
or
b) Ebayers decided they could make even more of a profit.

Meh, if you didn't get one, you simply didn't want it enough. "Enough" being the baseline of how long people are willing to stand in line for a thousand bucks minus risk inherent in selling stuff on e-bay. I have no problem with these people, but I am going to laugh my ass off if sony convinces e-bay to ban all PS3 auctions.

Nintendo wins again by having so many consoles that not too many people are worried about preorders (although a lot would love to have them anyway), and low to no expectations of e-bay demand. Every time I've asked about Wii pre-orders, I'm told "We'll have enough in stock." Hah, we'll see...

Next-Gen-Gamer - Uhm, these are unadvertised pre-orders that are being waited for for days by the people who are researching this far in advance. I would hazard to guess that there are going to be a heck of a lot more people waiting in line on the release dates that Nintendo and Sony have been advertising.

My current plan is to figure out which stores are having midnight releases if any (24 hr Walmart, maybe an EB or GS) and wait there, and if I don't get a good spot in line, I'm going to hunt down any less popular stores with small/no lines. Thank god Nintendo's releasing on a sunday so I don't have to take off from work.

There are still 2 Toys R Us's here? Last I remember, San Pedro was one of the only ones still open (Ingram just closed a few months back, or a year ago, don't recall).

Anyway, good to see fellow San Antonioins out and about. Although, your post rubbed me in a negative way for some reason.

I lost my debit card today, just one hour before I was about to head to Toys R Us to camp for a Wii, and I don't carry cash. Crap. Nothing to do now but go to sleep and get ready to camp out on launch day.

More importantly, someone tell those New England pansies that Chris in the shorts has the right idea. It was freezing and below in Minnesota tonight, and not one U of M student missed the chance to parade around outside in the most promiscuous outfit that they could wear and still call it a "costume."

I sometimes try to maintain a level head in console-war debates, but my rabbid regionalism cannot be tethered.

I drove by the store around 6PM yesterday and there were already 4 people in line. and the weather yesterday was cold and rainy with a driving 30mph wind.

I woke up at 5 went down at 6 and was 21st in line. also a couple of people were waiting for the new Elmo doll only had to wait around for an hour. At 7 the manager came out and handed out the tickets. luckily my store wasn't allowing people to double up and get both or I would have been SOL. 4 PS3's and 18 Wii's i got #15 I was last person in line, So after I got mine other people who were in front of me scooped up the the last couple of pre-order slips so some did get to double up, but only after everybody else got what they came for:)

I got my ticket now I just have to avoid falling asleep between now and when the store actually opens. if you don't redeem the ticket by 11am today you lose out.

I tried last night in Concord NH but they only had 3 PS3's and 8 Wii's with about 12 people already lined up some since 4pm. People that haven't got a pre-order yet and didn't make an attempt yesterday have no excuse to whine about people buying them to sell on ebay. The same people that sell them on ebay, will probalby buy one later anyway, but those systems would not be on the shelves waiting for the whiners who don't want to camp. If they didn't go on ebay, they would still all sell instantly. So stop fricken complainin.

There is no way I can convince myself that not having a Wii right away will ruin my life, so I was originally thinking that I would just stroll into Best Buy or Target on the launch day, and see if they had anything left.

Now, I am thinking that as long as I am able to get the Wii-browser for free (by purchasing the console in the first six months, I believe), I should be safe.

Also, by the time New Year's comes 'round, could there be more colour choices?
