There were about 8 people camped out last night around 8pm.

On another note, Game Crazy decided to cancel my preorder without notifying me and saying I didn't deposit 50, because they deleted the preorders out of their system because "it was too early". So i'm out 50 bucks and Wii by march

I went to my local TRU this morning around 8am (Cherry Hill, NJ). I was thinking there might be a shot to get a Wii and I didn't mind waiting two hours. There were at least 100 people in line. I talked to the "leader" he said all PS3s (obviously) and Wiis were gone... everyone else was there for the 150 Tickle Me Elmos. I hope Nintendo makes good on their promise of availability. I hope to wake up Sunday, Nov. 19th, and head on over to Target, walk in and pick up a Wii. Don't disappoint me Nintendo.

I went down to the Toys R Us in Santa Rosa, CA at 6:30am this morning. There were about 12 people already there. At 7:30, the manager came out and handed out vouchers for the Wii. I was the second to last person to get one! Success!

Im in upstate New York, actually right above the PA border. When I got there with my friend at 5pm on saturday there were already 7 people in line, and the PS3s were filled. There was one girl waiting for the Wii and was there since the first PS3 guys showed up, 8am. There was only one other Wii, so we were good. No one else showed up until 8pm, but we were in a rush and we couldnt get our supplies dropped off to us until 9pm. We had to sit and bare the temperatures until 9, which wasnt so bad. Except for the rain, and the horrid wind gusts. Yeah, im in the part of NY with the wind advisories. One more came, at 10, and then at 12am, 2 more people showed up, they left by 1am. At 3am 2 more people showed up, then 10 minutes later 3 more showed up. Thus filling up the Wiis. We made it through the night, in the lower thirties, and upper twenties, but it was rough with the wind. we had a tent like everyone else, yet it hardly did anything sitting on the cold concrete. I didnt sleep as i was watching the line, and by 7 o'clock there were nearly 100 or more people there. Out of the 7 PS3s that came in, 6 were being sold on ebay, highlight of the night, at about 1:30am someone drove my and screamed RIIIIIDGE RACCCER!!! I was third in line, and I have my (girlfriends) Wii preordered. I am also feeling pretty sick... Time to go to sleep.

killy (#19),

"i don't get the "selling on e-bay" thing. it's like people that sell food at expensive price during war time, making easy and fast money on the back of poor people. This people are not better than those people that we all hate so much."

Simple supply and demand. Since in the short term, supply is fixed, and since Sony has fixed the price, there will be inefficiencies. That's where Ebay comes in -- it helps reduce them. This leads us to a startling conclusion -- the PS3 is worth more than its retail price!

Here's my story to share:

I got up at 9am. Well, I thought it was 9am, but it was really 8am. Crazy day light savings time.

I heard on Joystiq that Toys R Us were doing the preorder thing for PS3s and Wii's. I didn't have anything to do (until football started) and decided to drive down to the one by my house (Annapolis, MD).

When I got there: A pretty modest line. I would say about between 15-20 people there. I chatted with someone and found out the situation: the Toys R Us had 8 PS3s and 20 Wii's. Not bad. However, like many others have been saying, TMX Elmo was being released and most of the people were in line for that.

I was hoping to get both the PS3 and Wii, but the 8 PS3s were already accounted for. I saw that a group a college age guys had camped out there. They had the tents and food and wine and everything. Yeah, I saw wine.

So I waits in line, playing my recently acquired Phoenix Wright on my DS Phat. The line slowly begins to grow and grow. Two adults and a child were behind me. They were there for the Elmo, and really didn't know about the Wii and PS3. I told them the details: price, difference between each console, etc. Lol, boy was the guy surprised when I quoated the PS3 price. The son wanted a Wii, but the mother didn't really want to drop the minimum $50 deposit. I guess I reassured the son that the Wii won't be really that scarce when it's released. I didn't want to take that chance so I reserved, but I said it to quell his demands and drive his mom batty. Aw, kids these days. ;D

It was well organized. About 20 min before opening, the employees handed out tickets to the people in line. If you wanted an Elmo, you just bring it to the cashier and they'll hand you one there. If you wanted a Wii/PS3, you just take it to the games area and make the deposit there. Also, you had time to go shopping and whatnot. The tickets were guaranteed reservation spots up until 11AM.

Overall experience: good. I didn't like the cold weather, but I can endure it for the sake of Nintendo.

Now for the PS3? With this experience, I plan on camping out at Best Buy. Our local one had told me: "First come, first serve."

I took a couple pics:

Good luck, fellow gamers!

I have the greatest girlfriend in the world!!! I live in North Carolina, go to school in Greenville, and work in Raleigh during the weekends. The distance is about 100 miles. I do this b/c I have a kick *** job with Oakley and don't want to lose it. I wasn't able to preorder at EB games because I was on vacation the friday that was going on.

I told my girlfriend about the preorder at TRU and that it was on sunday. I also told her that I wasn't going to work the weekend that the wii is released b/c it's so close to Thanksgiving break and don't want to travel back and forth so soon between the two locations

My girlfriend VOLUNTEERED to go to TRU for me in Greenville (she lives with me there) and camp out in the morning so that I could get a wii preorder...... I didn't have to ask her at all and infact almost asked her not too b/c that is too much to ask for. She's not a gamer but does understand that I really want one. It's 11:00 am right now and she got there at 8 am. She was all prepared to sit around and wait. She had a book, my DS and a chair. When she got there she was handed a ticket and asked to come back at noon. So she was a little bummed about not going through the entire experience. But the ticket does secure me a preorder for launch day.

I don't understand the point of camping for the Wii launch. There's a rumor over at GoNintendo that Best Buy stores are getting an average of 80-90 units November 19th, so you can expect places like Target to be around that number. I'm just going to arrive a few hours early since I can't imagine that many people camping where I live.

I drove by the TRU in Tustin, California last night at 9pm or so and there were already at least 10 people in chairs. Since the weather out here was much more forgiving, everyone was ready to spend the night there. I miss out again (doh!) but I wish everyone who camped out the best when they get their pre orders :)

Returned from my local TRU (Rockville, MD) Got there at 5:30, was the second to last person to get a Wii reserve. Last guy came around 6, everyone before me spent the night ang got there betwen 1 and 4 pm saturday. Every PS3 orderer wanted to sell it on ebay, abd about 75% of wii orderers are going to play theirs. Take from that what you will.

I checked my TRU here in Monroeville, PA and at around 3:30 am (allowing for the clocks being turned back), there were about 20-30 people in line and about 15 cars in the lot. Their allotment was 10 Wiis, 6 PS3s.

I went straight to TRU after a halloween party, saw the lines and just said "well, shit." I called my buddy who was gonna go with me and told him that all was lost. I guess we'll be camping out at Walmart or Target on wiimergence day.

Oh, and if it is capitalism then that means we go into Darwinism. This means that if I create 80 ebay accounts and bid up each PS3 to $4000 and then refuse to pay that I have a comparitive advantage against these opportunist losers.

If everyone created a few eBay accounts and did the same we would not have to fight these douches next time a system releases. I say start a revolution, people.

I don't get all the negative reactions to camping out for systems. Camping out for stuff is fun. Grab a couple gamer friends, bundle up...if you're real smart hook up a TV like one guy did, and just hang out with other gamers all night. I've camped out for stuff that I wasn't even buying, just to accompany a friend or two. There's a wonderful sense of gamer solidarity there.

Though I can see the point in it being a better idea to camp out at Best Buy or someplace that will just be selling the consoles first-come first-serve on launch day. It is much more exciting if you know you are going to walk away with a console in the morning.

Just keep in mind; campers arent out of their minds. Some people think hanging out in a parking lot all night with a bunch of excited gamers is fun...and if not, then being cold and sleepless for one night is well worth whatever those people make selling the console on ebay.

Well I just came from that exact store launch and had several conversations with the author of this wonderful piece. I got there at 6:00pm and I was #7 of 8 for a PS3, and ending up getting a 60gb console, which I am so stoked about. Now for some rebuttal:
For those of you who are saying the people who don't even want the consoles are us and all we are going to do is sell it, and the people who really want it don't have a chance to get it at market price. Umm, if you really want it, then get your ass outside for a night and wait like the rest of us. Obviously we want it more than you, b/c I still can't feel my toes but I have a PS3 waiting for me on launch gauranteed and you bitter people don't.
Second of all, to whoever the poster was that was arguing why wait 10-20 hours for a pre-order when you can wait 6-8 hours on launch day and actually get the console that same day... umm, wake up to reality bud, 10-20 hours on launch day is cutting it close. My buddies and I are going on launch day, but either getting there early thursday, maybe like 6am, or camping out wednesday and thursday night. 6-8 would be a walk in the park for anyone, but its just not realistic. So before you go bashing us who waited, how about you get your shit straight beforehand huh?
Well, Im excited to have a PS3 for my own gaming priveledges, and the second one I will get on launch will go straight to ebay to fund my new HDTV. I encourage every one of you to just wait it out for one night, say like 18-20 hours. Think of it this way, it will suck waiting, but you meet tons of new people, its an exciting atmosphere, and at the end of the "race," theres a PS3 waiting for you!

I camped out for the PS3 in Greensburgh, PA at Toys R Us, and it was a long cold night. It snowed a little and the wind was harsh at times. We only got 6 PS3's and 15 Wii's. Unfortuntely, I was number 7 in line for the PS3, but still managed to get a Wii and one of those stupid elmo dolls, which I will sell both on Ebay. Guess I'll be camping on PS3 launch....

just wondering.. for all these PS3 preorders, are they stating whether it is the $600 or $500 model? personally, i would feel jipped if i put just a reserve down (after a night of waiting) only to get the lower end model :P

then again.. if you're just going to sell it, doesn't matter; and the person who ends up paying 1-2K+ for a console just doesn't know any better ;)

@Next Gen Gamer

I only waited 2.5 hours for my preorder, and I didn't even need to get there that early. And with a pre-order, your ARE guaranteed a system at launch (at GameStop, and if you've payed off the console), and that's why I won't be sorry that I did that for a preorder. I work third shift, and I'm not going to take the 18/19th off just because I want to wait 5 hours in a line when I can be guaranteed a system when I get there 2 hours before they open.

I hit about 10 eb's/gamestops combined(I live in NY, so this is a very easy thing to do) and put my name down on the cancellation list. I already got 2 calls about the ps3(went in and got my guaranteed preorders from 2 people who cancelled) and one for the Wii. Didnt have to wait in line a one minute. :)

Killy:
All goods and services are worth what people are willing to pay for them. In order to get a PS3 from the first shipment one has to wait in line which takes time and some planning/effort. Who are you to decide what my time is worth? Whoever buys a PS3 for $2000 through Ebay 1. Wants a PS3 TO PLAY! and 2. Would rather pay someone else to stand in line for them.

Also, no-one is being deprived of their PS3! If you want to buy one for $499 you can stand in line just like everyone else who wants to buy one. Whether they keep it for themselves or sell it on Ebay is not going to make a difference as far as the total number of available units on launch day.
