Amazon honors Wii test pre-orders, actual pre-orders to recommence
Amazon has decided to honor "several pre-orders" for Wii that slipped through the cracks as the site performed system maintenance on Friday. Pre-orders were accidentally reactivated for testing purposes during an unspecified window of time, and anyone who happened to purchase the non-item will be entitled to a Wii console, though not necessarily at launch.Amazon's video games editor also confirmed that the site will re-launch pre-orders on a future date -- Amazon briefly offered pre-orders in September. Interested parties can sign-up to be notified of pre-order availability on Wii's product page. Anyone reading get lucky this past Friday?
[Thanks, killcount]

I'm still waiting for them to really open it. I've been looking forward to paying no shipping and no tax for Wii for months.

Umm... are you sure? "People don't settle for anything less than the PS3." I don't get what you mean. Fanboyism, stupidity, and everything eslse aside, I don't understand how that makes any sense. I'm pretty sure people will buy 360's and Wii's just like they will buy PS3's. I think they will "settle... for less" but I disagree with your phrasing.

Alas... must it be repeated #3? It's all about the games and gameplay.

Amazon is LYING. This is the email I received from Amazon customer service after I complained that I wasn't notified by email after I signed up for notification on Wii. See if you can tell me what they're talking about:
"Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.
I apologize for any inconvenience caused by your Alerts notification
not being sent. We have recently discontinued our Alerts service,
and e-mail notifications are no longer being sent. We have no plans
for a similar service in the future at this time.
However, we are still offering a general newsletter subscription
service for many product lines. I've included a link to that page of
our website:

I will be sure to pass your message on to the appropriate department
in our company for consideration. Customer feedback like yours is
very important in helping us continue to improve the selection and
service we provide.
We hope that you will continue to take advantage of the other self-
service features that we offer. Thank you for your interest in

HA! Why should I waste my money on a PS3? Why anyone would throw $500 out the window for some piece of crap, is beyond me.

Maybe you guys at Joystiq can get a response that makes sense from Amazon.com. I got the above email, so I wrote them back that their wii web page STILL has a link to click for email alert... and THIS was the response I got back. Apparently, they Alert", "notification", whatever you call it, I signed up for everything that you can possibly click on their Wii page... and I was never "alerted", "notified", or anything about pre-ordering availability. Is this "outsourced" customer service from some foreign nation that doesn't use English as a native language?
I guess what they PROBABLY mean (I'm guessing) is that we will NOT be getting an email when pre-orders are available. EVER. Maybe we'll get an "alert" (but not a "notification") when the Wii is actually in stock.
"Thank you for writing us at Amazon.com.
First, please allow me to extend my most sincere apologies for any
frustration this matter has caused.
Please note that we have recently discontinued our Alerts service,
and e-mail notifications are no longer being sent but in this case
we are providing alert.
Allow me to explain:
I have checked this item "Nintendo Wii" Availability: "We will e-
mail you when this item becomes available". In our website it
clearly states that we are not taking pre-orders but if you sign for
e-mail alert we will notify you when item is available for placing
an order.
To signup for e-mail alert please see the information given below:
If you return to this item's detail page on our web site, you should
see a blue box on the right-hand side of the page labeled "Alert
me." If you would like to be notified when this item is available
for purchasing, click on sign up and simply enter your e-mail
address and password click on "Sign in using our secure server".
You will see the message "You are signed up to receive an e-mail
from us when this item is available".
Please note that signing up for notification does *not* reserve a
copy of this item for you. When you receive our e-mail informing you
that the item is available, you will need to return to our web site
to place your order.
Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com.

@3 Fanpeople are special.
Its a good thing they 'honored' the pre-orders. I would think if they didn't they would have more then a few non-returning customers.
On a side note: I'm really into the white boxes for the Wii and the games. They look very clean.

I was one of those guys who managed to preorder a Wii last friday!
My whole report's here: http://www.explodingbarrels.net/2006/10/27/wii-preorder-at-amazon/
I just thought I was lucky! At least they're saying they will honor it, right...? Right?!
dvddesign @ Oct 30th 2006 11:06PM
I was one of the September 15th people. Lucky me... I got that bastard ordered up and locked down WAAAAY before anyone else did.
Such things have freed me up mentally to focus on other stresses in my life, like where I'm going to sell my PS3 when it comes in... Ebay's not for me.
killcount @ Oct 30th 2006 11:19PM
Yay amazon
skyrous @ Oct 30th 2006 11:48PM
I've been on the amazon mailing list for quite a while now. luckily I don't have to put them jerking me around anymore I got lucky at TRU yesterday. stood out in the cold for 1 hour and got my Wii pre-order:)
By the way is anyone buying a PS3 to actually play games? I only know 1 person willing to do that but he isn't dedicated enough to camp for days to get one. everyone just seems to be buying one to make a quick profit. there are already dozens up for bid up on ebay it'll be hundreds or even thousands of them after launch... it would be be fall down on the floor hilarious if there was a glut in the market and nobody bought them.
Jahgah @ Oct 31st 2006 9:30AM
I am just glad that I pre-pre-orderd at EB. Good luck to everyone trying to get a wii on launch (not being sarcastic). When it (the Wii) comes out if you want to trade Wii numbers visit my site and become a member.
Beastrow @ Oct 31st 2006 10:54AM
I'm one of the lucky "several" preorders that managed to sneak in. I've been following the item religiously after the first unannounced round of pre-orders and, I think, that's why I got lucky. One quick question about the news story, though. Where are they getting the part about the pre-order not necessarily being for a launch unit? I actually don't care if mine takes a few days, I'm just happy to get one without having to search. But the posting by Amazon doesn't say that anywhere, so I'm just wondering where people are getting that bit from.

if i recall xbox was better than the ps2 yet more people got ps2's cuz they had more games at the time then xbox. so what i think people will buy a 360 cuz it has more games out, its cheaper, and has good graphics too(gears of war). so they will get the 360 and a wii cuz wii has good fun oarty games and new and different and cheap and easier to find and more of them then ps3
