With that Killzone sequel stuck somewhere in the PlayStation 3 pipeline, Sony and Guerilla have opted to keep the franchise alive with a PSP spin-off, releasing this week. Guerilla was not up to the task of proving FPSs could be done well on PSP, so Liberation is brought to us in third-person, which has proved more stable and successful on the platform. But releasing alongside Vice City Stories and a pair of Q Entertainment puzzlers could mean Liberation gets slept on.Here are some mixed critiques:
- IGN (90/100) opines Killzone's got "depth" and "accessibility," making it "one of the best games on [PSP]."
- GameDaily (80/100) gives a clear-cut endorsement: "Killzone: Liberation is definitely worth buying."
- Game Informer (73/100) applauds Guerilla for "actually trying to do some quality work on the PSP," but warns, "this game will kick your ass" because of awkward controls and difficulty balance.

They said it was difficult due to the controls, not the AI. This is not a good thing, therefore it lowers the score

By that logic, Mortal Kombat 3 is without a doubt the greatest fighting game in that respective series. Hell, perhaps ever ha.
I guess we like a side of masochism with our gaming, eh?

obviously you dont read much joustiq or pay any attention. however its joystiq's style to pick a range of views (they do this with all the reviews) not as you say to make the game look worse, but they do this to show a wider range of views. they just convey the information that is out there, and let the reader decide. thats what these forums are for. not for you to yell and complain and me to explain it to you rationally. we are suppose to read the article and discuss the content.

Although I do find Joystiq very often blatantly and even aggressively anti-Sony and anti-PSP, I can't exactly fault the author here by picking one low review out of the batch, since that's what a 'meta' roundup is. Otherwise, it'd just be a skimming of the highest (or lowest) ratings, right?

The first Killzone is utter crap. There is 4 voice samples, 3-5 barely different enemies with horrible AI, and too many snore-inducing levels. Repetitive garbage. Wouldn't you be apprehensive if the first offering was one of the worst FPS games?
The PSP needs all the good games it can get. Killzone has potential if they stop with "the suck" and start with "the good". It sounds like it is improving, which is never a bad thing. I'll be sure to check it out. As long as it is nothing like SOCOM, it should be a good one.
Is it just me, or should Nintendo and Sony give up with the shooters on the PSP and the DS already?

I don't think Joystiq is unfairly biased. Probably like me, they like the games you can play with a Sony but the corporation is awfully pretentious and it's hardware overpriced. I still have a psp and ps2 though. Blatant disrespect towards the consumer doesn't stop a true gamer I guess.
I lost my last vestiges of patience with the Sony Corporation when they buried Lik Sang.
