New Smash Bros. trailer and character revealed Friday [Update 1]

Freak yes! I can't wait for Friday! We're going to be drowning in news about Zelda and this week lots of news about the VC, and now Brawl?! YES! I LOVE THIS WEEK!

Sonic?

If it was a less important character, they couldn't get away with releasing it, by itself, as the opening of a big company event. If the character doesn't have a lot of WOW factor, people would be let down. Logically, it will be:

A) a third-party character;
B) a big-name character;

But how many big-name Nintendo characters aren't already in Smash Bros? By big-name, I mean something that wouldn't disappoint the fans. For instance, they couldn't announce a character of Ness' popularity, because we're all expecting a Mario, or at least a Ganondorf.

__Possible Characters (IMO)__

Sonic: The most recognizable non-Nintendo character.

Megaman: Born and raised on Nintendo, he didn't leap to Sony until the eighth and final game (not to be confused with Mega Man X, who was a Sony whore).

Ridley: I'm not entirely sure if he could share the spotlight in Nintendo World 2006 by himself, but maybe. If you consider that the Metroid series has only one Smash Bros. representative, it sounds less crazy. Not saying I advocate him, but it makes a little sense.

Tingle: Nintendo likes to surprise people. And you have to admit that you have strong feelings for him (whether those feelings are of love or intense hatred is up to you). Again, I'm not sure that he could hold the spotlight by himself at Nintendo World.

Diddy Kong: Probably the most likely first-party character to be announced, and the most likely to survive Nintendo World besides Sonic.

Again, the character to be announced here has to be important enough to focus a trailer on his/her introduction, or this wouldn't work. Nintendo knows this.

The most likely announcement is a third-party character, to give the same feeling as the announcement of Snake.

I regret that Waluigi, Daisy, Birdo, etc. cannot be considered for this trailer, because Nintendo has to make this announcement big. That's not to say those characters won't end up in Brawl...just to say that they won't be announced on Friday.

According to some NeoGAF, the actual translation is "This is the first time people will be able to see the new characters moving in real game footage."

This would imply that we aren't getting any new characters, we are just seeing new footage of the known new characters.

Still cool to see new footage of the game.

I dunno who's correct but thewiire.com is sayign that all that was said that was for the first time you'll be able to see the new characters in actual gameplay footage. Hmmm. I don't think we'll see Sonic yet if he's in the game. Since Nintendo and Sonic are no longer at each others throats over hardware competition (y'know, Sonic games on nintendo consoles and all), I reckon there's a good chance he'll be in there, but they won't say it yet. They know we want it, so they'll hang off 'til the game is about to release.

Exciting if there are to be new characters released though. Too many favourites to pick from though.

Chainsaw Man from RE4: Hell, if theres gonna Solid Snake, we need a resident evil character, and hes sounds the most fun. Either that or Ada, Leon, or Krauser.

Mother Brain: We got Ganon and Bowser. Now we need to play as Mother Brain. Lol, id be hilarious, almost like a gaint sandbag with lasers. I seriously doubt that itd work tho.

Why would it be Sonic...Sonic is too strong for this type of game, just think about how fast he is? They couldn't touch him, unless they balanced out his abilities to make him weaker...

well c.Falcon was an extremely fast runner in melee, but he wasnt exactly invincible. They made all his actual attacks pretty slow. shiek was also pretty speedy. Sonic shouldn't be a problem.
I really wanna see some in-game features, and how the new moveset is balanced. Also want to hear some more music from the ff composer. Id like to leave the characters to be a surprise when I unlock em.

Too bad Banjo and Kazooie will never make it. At least we might get Diddy Kong, Ridley, Bowser Jr., Mew, and Rayman. Hopefully, Ganondorf will have some of his own moves and maybe Wolf and Majora can join in.

As someone wrote a few months ago in Nintendo Power, Phoenix Wright should be a character. This person wrote he could hit people with a statue of the "Thinker," and yell "Objection!" to stun people.

P.S. Can't wait for Phoenix Wright sequel.
