Most people I know are holding out for the PS3. I myself have a 360 and am very happy with it. The last console I had was a PS2. But the PS3 doesn't appeal to me so much for some reason. Maybe it was the huge let down I felt the PSP turned out to be. Not one game I love on that system.

Not that I'm anti Sony. My TV and HD cams are made by them and they're great quality products.

I don't KNOW what will happen this time around. But here is what I HOPE will happen.

1. Sony takes third but stays in console business. Next gen they use the lessons learned from their arogance, abuse of position, and just generally bad decisions to fix all the problems they had with the ps3.

2. Nintendo is rewarded for their risk taking and get that "everybody" market they're aiming for. At the same time they continue to learn from past mistakes and don't become the bully once again.

3. Basically I just want MS to stay in purely to build competition because I get the feeling that given the chance MS will be the bully and demand no less than our very souls for the oportunity to play their consoles.

As for everyone trying to make the history repeating itself argument, it depends on how you look at it. Sony is now the arogant leader just like Nintendo was at one point at the same time you can draw similarities between what Sony is doing right now and what they did with the PS2. The bottom line is we have alot of similarities but very little is identical to what happened las gen. Yeah sony had a weak launch with shortages but they were also first to market I don't know ultimately how much any of the circumstances matter to the market as a whole. I do know for the first time ever I will be buying a system at launch I just really like what Nintendo is trying to do and have enough faith in their first party games alone to take the risk on the Wii.

Playstation3 won't lose this generation. Sony's fan-base is too huge, arrogant ,closed minded and loyal for them to fail.

In other news Sony being investigated
Source:

Sony, already battered by a battery recall and Playstation 3 supply issues, is now being probed by the the U.S. Department of Justice as part of an investigation into sales of memory chips.

The company said today that they received a subpoena from the Justice Department's antitrust division looking for details about Sony's static random access memory (SRAM) business.

"Sony intends to cooperate fully with the DOJ in what appears to be an industry wide inquiry," the company said in a short statement.

Last year Sony sold $27.7 million worth of SRAM, but they declined to say who makes the chips for them who who they sell them to.

And Sony isn't the only SRAM operation under investigation, earlier this month Cypress Semiconductor announced that the DOJ was looking into their operation as well.

While this isn't specifically gaming news, it will be if Sony ends up bleeding to death before the PS3 can start to turn a profit for them. Things are looking bad for Sony.

what you guys dont understand is that fanbase is mostly casuals, and the ydont pick sides. second, the larger the fanbase the worse off you are to keep them if you delay. a double edged sword if you will.

PS3 fans everywhere have waited a year, they are grinding their teeth every waking momment of the day, they are filled with excitement and anticipation to the point where the ycan scream.

The PS3 hits stores, and these gamers CANNOT WAIT TO GET A PS3 to Finaly play the 360 version of this game on the PS3. because its on the PS3! they are ready! they run into the store, insane with anticipation, becauset he yentire way to the store they were thinking of what to do with it when they get home and how to enjoy every momment of opening that new hardware up.

They arrive, swarm into the store and to their dismay................no more PS3s. there will be more in a couple to a few weeks. at this point, after waiting a year, a few weeks is going to kill them. they will finally.......... settle for a 360.

now imagine christmas.................they will not wait.

ymmv, I never said the PS2 was eclipsed by GC sales, I said the initial launch sales of the GC spurred rampant speculation that it would topple the PS2. Launch -- not the weeks and months following.

@50

Actually if you read every post after 16, the discussion about advertising and sony has turned into a petty flamewar between over-estrogenated bloggers.

That's the problem with Joystiq, every damn article turns into the same people arguing, with fanboys flaming, and people who make gamers look like a sad sad race clowns.

We could have an article about how someone donated a Gamecube to a cancer center... and still one of you jerks will write some comment like "nintendo is for kiddies ps3 is the shit your opinion sucks."

Do any of you enjoy life?

I'm starting to get weary reading comments here. You all sound same everyday. All except maybe 5.

@49: Sorry, but you are a moron.

MS always overpromises and under delivers.

Examples:

Backwards compatibility. It's taken a year and I (finally) can play most of my xbox games on the 360. Way to go. Promised and delivered Waaayyy later.

REliability: MS does not say there is anything wrong with the 360's. I'm here to tell you as an owner that they have problems. After only owning one for 3 months and 13 days (yeah, 13 days past factory warranty) the stupid thing got the ring of death. Now I need to send the thing back and get it fixed.

THey have under delivered on quality. THey like to say "it is within industry limits" yada yada...but I tell you this, they are not winning over anybody with their stellar reliability. I love my 360, but I am terrified of it's unreliability. Once I get it back, I'll have to shell out money for a 1 year warranty because the 90 day warranty is pathetic.

Other examples...a game a week for XBL...yeah, right. Pathetic list of available games after a full year on the market. Big deal.

How about we pay for multi-player on-line? Sure, fleece the consumer. I don't recall having to do that with the vast majority of my PC games (barring MMO's). Plus, I ran my own server at my expense. The 360 has all this locked down so that fan/community activities such as these are not possible. Underdelivered.

I should have just stuck with PC gaming. Nothing beats that for flexibility and raw power (HD? BAH...PC's had and still have the graphics power that is unmatched by these "fixed" consoles). You pay more, but you get what you pay for, I guess.

>26. Y'all are kiddin' yourselves! Sony will sell out of PS3's for a long while. Why do you think there are so many 360s sitting on store shelves now? <
what

>BTW, how many Wiis are going to be available by the end of the year? I haven't heard anything about it. It's been all Sony news.<
Nintendo says four or more million.
