Goldeneye throwback maps for download, Xbox Goldies only
Microsoft and Rare have released updated versions of Goldeneye's Facility and Temple (now "Ruin") multiplayer maps for use with Perfect Dark Zero. The pair is free to download, but only available to Xbox Live Gold members (hey, it pays to pay). Throw in a polished-up Complex, and we just might consider re-investing in this game.

I stopped playing PDZ when the COD2 patch was released....might have to check it out again. I loved GoldenEye.
rockintom99 @ Nov 1st 2006 8:48PM
Awesome. Facility was the most awesome level ever.
Hope you can still do the spin trick to get back into the bathroom vents ;)

Oh this is so good...
Can't wait to see how they look. I wonder if they'll look so different that we won't recognize them...
BlueLotus @ Nov 1st 2006 4:45PM
I dont have my glasses on, and im very sick at the momeny, so my brain is not working to its full ability. I defintly thought that said a repolished version of GoldenEye and Perfect Dark Zero was for download on XBLA... almost sharted myself :(
Doc @ Nov 1st 2006 4:44PM
How could they have picked those maps over hte complex? License to Kill Pistols on Complex, classic.
USMC BEANS @ Nov 1st 2006 4:55PM
Is there any legal restrictions keeping Goldeneye and Perfect Dark off of XBLA? Is it because they were originally on a Nintendo console? If it is some sort of stalemate like that then I hope that MS and Nintendo come to some sort of truce and make it downloadable on both the Wii and 360 (unlikely I know!).

Too bad Perfect Dark Zero was a horrendous letdown. The game played absolutely nothing like the original Goldeneye or Perfect Dark. The acting and plot were completely nonsensical and bore no relevance whatsoever to the original Perfect Dark game. Joanna looks like some bug-eyed teen queen instead of an agent. Not to mention the controls, pacing, hit damages, and balancing were all completely off. It just did not feel like a good game at all. I wanted to love that game, I tried so hard to keep playing it, but I couldn't, it was just a huge letdown.
In the end, Perfect Dark Zero was a very mediocre first person shooter, but not a Perfect Dark game by any means or standards. It just had zero relevance. It goes to show what Bungie did so well with Halo 2 - adding to the series in a way that made it new and fresh again, but stuck to the same core as the original game, giving verterans a sense of familiarity and newbies a chance to join the Halo universe.
You can add new maps as much as you want to this game, but it isn't going to make it any better. The game needs the controls redone, the action moves taken out, a jump button added (many of the MP levels beg for it), new pacing, and new weapon powering. All of which could be done with some time and an autoupdate. Rare briefly mentioned remaking the original Perfect Dark for the 360, hopefully they will use different people for this game and stick to the series' roots.

I believe that Rareware owns the sole rights to the PD & Goldeneye series. That's why PDZ came out for the 360 instead of a nintendo console as originally thought.
rogue_pigeon @ Nov 1st 2006 5:15PM
"I believe that Rareware owns the sole rights to the PD & Goldeneye"
PD, yes, but not Goldeneye. Not only was that published by Nintendo, but Rare also no longer have rights to the Bond license (obviously).
Angelo @ Nov 1st 2006 5:30PM
I find the original Goldeneye has not aged too well at all and is virtually unplayable to me. Which is odd, because I remember loving it at the time...
anOne @ Nov 4th 2006 8:47AM
Finally, a reason to buy Perfect Dark!
Joe @ Nov 2nd 2006 5:51PM
I can understand why this is XBLA only- not like Silver users are having gigantic parties where they play 4-person split-screen.
Edge of Blade @ Nov 2nd 2006 10:27PM
Goldeneye...and the N64 aged horribly. I tried picking up Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the gamecube special edition disk. I was sorely disappointed with how dated everything looked.
Are you telling me that brown sheet is supposed to be a mountain?
DarkTetsuya @ Nov 1st 2006 6:20PM
Golden Guns + Facility = The ONLY way to play GE64... It's a shame my brother's 360 is suffering from 3-red-lights syndrome, or I'd check it out.
MosquitoControl @ Nov 1st 2006 7:16PM
Dwells, of course she looks more like some dumbass teen than an agent... she's supposed to be like 21 and not yet an agent...
Overall the game is awful single player, too slow, not much fun deathmatch, too slow, but a ton of fun co-op. Blows every other co-op FPS out of the water by actually being designed from the ground-up for co-op.
I hope Rare does something similar for Halo 3.
carg0 @ Nov 1st 2006 7:27PM
Ummm....no
DWells55 @ Nov 1st 2006 7:48PM
@MosquitoControl:
Regardless, she looks stupid. It's as if they tried to make her "hot" or something. She looks nothing like the real Joanna - a character design I liked because it was modest and everything PD0's isn't. Rather than some stylized, young, "attractive" character, she was normal looking person. I'm playing as an agent here, not some teen-queen. I wouldn't have minded Joanna being someone who looks 21 if only they hadn't made her so silly looking. The whole game has a very poor style to it and stuff is way too shiny.
mark @ Nov 1st 2006 8:22PM
"Awesome. Might finally be time to open that sealed copy of PDZ."
I don't get it. Yes, it's a bad game, but how would you know that if it was sealed? :o
CubeGuy @ Nov 1st 2006 9:22PM
I liked Jo's hair. Best part of the game.
OTAM @ Nov 1st 2006 10:05PM
PDZ owns your ass. I have Dead Rising,Oblivion, and just about everything else for my 360 but PDZ is the one that stays in my console and has me coming back over and over.
I just creamed my pants for goldeneye maps.
S.A. @ Nov 1st 2006 10:43PM
Damn, I sold that game a while back.
xvalue @ Nov 1st 2006 11:02PM
I wouldnt call them remakes of the goldeneye maps. More like re-makes of the original facility and ruin from PD on N64. I think they were almost the same, but dont expect identical Goldeneye maps.
XIV @ Nov 1st 2006 11:19PM
@ 11
Rare owns rights PD but EA owns rights to James Bond
Dan R @ Nov 1st 2006 11:33PM

I don't see how you can say that the game plays nothing like Goldeneye, it plays exactly like Goldeneye. Everyone circle strafes each other and misses most of the time and everybody has too many hitpoints. At least with PDZ you actually spawn with a weapon and the spawn points aren't deterministic.
Goldeneye was fun at the time, but its gameplay has been eclipsed many times over. Facility has a terrible level layout too.
Perfect Dark Zero is just a shiner version of Goldeneye, sadly FPS games have progressed in the past 8 years.
baby sea tuna @ Nov 2nd 2006 9:30AM
Meh. I think they'd need to come out with a mod where Joanna Dark comes out of the console and blows me for me to even consider ever playing this shitty game again.
Joseph Villalobos @ Nov 2nd 2006 9:53AM
Must be nice!! MUST GET XBOX 360! =)
propel water @ Nov 2nd 2006 5:56PM
porting goldeneye over to the 360 would be difficult because although it would be a 1:1 port to xbla, they are essentially redistributing it as a new product on a new platform. That would come into conflict with both Nintendo and EA. Both EA and Nintendo would have to negotiate a deal with MS to port it over. Because if MS is going to be selling it, it's only fair that the current license holder and the previous publisher of the game be compensated.
