I have applied the fall update on a 360 with a manufacturing date of 5/17/06. Movies started freezing immediately, but restarting the console allowed them to play through. The frequency increased to 5-6 restarts during movies, games, etc. Finally, 3 leds in the cirle of light. MS wants $140: purchased on 7/4, its now 12/4. Five months, $600 later. Here are my options:

1. Dump on ebay and take a loss
2. Send to MS and take a loss and risk getting a refurb
3. Do nothing and take a loss
4. Open box and try things like the heat gun technique, or replace the ROMS, or ???, and take a loss.
5. Drop it off of a 10 story building, film it for YouTube and enjoy the publicity. oh, and take a loss.

Key common denominator here: TAKING A LOSS.

Any thoughts? I have just one: Don't EVER trust Microsoft. EVER.

My 360 was bricked by the 11/30 update. According to MS I have to pay $140 because it's my fault I did not buy an extended warranty. They also claim it's a hardware failure and purely coincidental that it happened immediately after an update. I received the 360 on Aug. 31, Bricked on Dec. 2. just a few days over warranty. I now own a $400.00 door stop courtesy of Micros$$t as I refuse to give them any more money.

Mine got a hardware failure. 3 red lights of death after about a day of shittiness. Funny colored nintendo-like green screens and the like occurred then it merely wouldn't boot up anymore.

Red Ring Of Death killed my 360 last night
don't know wether it's the update or not, it only started playing up when I bought Call Of Duty 3, it kept freezing up, some people said it was Gears Of War and Call Of Duty having some issues with each other, but I doubt it, I got Vegas on the realease day, been playing it up until last night when the Red Rings came knocking, I am the only person who uses the 360, I have not Modded it in any way, I've never dropped it, or hit it by accident, only ever used wireless controllers, and to those saying that people are making this up, you really need to listen, because it will most likely happen to you too, my 360 isn't even 4 months old yet, and this happens through no fault of my own, woolworths don't want to know, saying they will not replace or give a refund,

anyway, I've emailed xbox.com/support so waiting for reply from them, also sent email to Trading Standards to see what they think.

good luck to you all, you'll need it

oh and I still have my original PS2 that I bought back....ooh how long ago was that, about 5 years or so old, and it's been to Lanzarote and back too, and it still works with no problems.....

My xbox 360 had a hardware failor in may, i called xbox support they told me that the service fee was 129.99 and that there wasnt a guarantee that my system could be fixed. So i waited then i heard in august that they extended the warranty for one full year, i got my x360 fixed and only had to pay to ship it to the repair center.

But this is my idea for when the warranty runs out and its clearly M$ fault.. dont pay the 150.00 or the 129.99 Screw them. Go to your favorite retailer buy a brand new system, and take it back 2-3 days later and return the broken system. (the system will be sent back to M$ as a manufacture defect) all you have to worry about is removing all serial numbers if your system is registered but even that is disputable (say your xbox 360 was stolen) Easy and quick fix!
