Video: PS3 hardware up-close and personal

Dear god is that thing gorgeous. Even more monolithic than the PS2, but it just exudes the "Not for Kids" feel. Really, really slick. The Spiderman font looks really nice on it, actually.

I just got back from a PS3 event, played a lot of the games they had on display (COD3, Marvel SuperDicks, Resistance:Fall of Man, Sonic, etc...) Everything looked great except for Sonic and (unfortunately) Gundam Mobile Suit. Resistance:FoM was fun and very detailed. One weird thing: You slide around like in a PC game, but the detail in the distance is great - warships hovering overhead, lots of enemies... Sony might finally have themselves a Halo - let's see what the online aspect is like - how are we gonna talk to each other, by the way? As for presentation, Sony really did it up: 45 inch Brevias vs the smaller Samsungs I played on at a 360 event last year at this time. Plus Twinkies and sodas to get you really excited about what you were geeking on.

The controller is fine, if not a little bit 'un-evolved' from the PS2 days... But I got news for you Wii fans - the integration of the 'Sixaxis' motion sensing is right on par with many of the games I've played on the Wii... COD3 makes good use of the motion-sensing for rifle-butting enemies and uses a fairly cool little clockwise-twist to set bombs on things... It's cool. The 1080p game era is nice as well; I love me some detail on sniping and driving games... the Marvel game looked sharper and better to my friend who played it on the 360 on his 1080p screen, just before his 360 died last night (second time by the way) so no real way to see if the new 360 dashboard update helps that game.

The PS3 is awesome looking, a great example of industrial design. Why worry about the size or the finger-printability? I can understand you if you're talking about the PSP, but you're not - it goes on your shelf and that's that. We all got used to the original XBox's size and horrible looks... You might just do the same here. Stop hating for no good reason.

I like it. It really looks like the "Cadillac" of gaming systems, whereas the Wii looks more like the "New Beetle" ...

I don't care about the shine. I can't pile my game discs on top of it since it's curved.

Just like the PS2, you don't have to reach back there
to turn it on and off every time, only if you want to turn it completely off! Yeah, the system is pretty big, so it might be harder to reach around it (joke), but I really don't see this as a problem! I never turn off my PS2 completely except for certain occasions, like moving it or taking it somewhere! And where would you prefer they put the power switch if not on the back? It is the safest place to not get accidently hit, and to not stick out and be all ugly.
Seriously, there is a lot more bad press and
news about the PS3 and Sony to find something valid to complain about.
