There should be an option for all of the methods of reading above... >.< aside from the picture and flame-war one.

I read at both work and on the go via my Treo 600. Ironically enough, I don't view so much on the Treo anymore, ever since they started automatically redirecting to "Joystiq Mobile."
While I appreciate the effort to make things easier for mobile viewing, the fact that I CAN'T VIEW THE ENTIRE CONTENT OF THE SITE, really pisses me off. The vanilla version of Joystiq is pretty lightweight in the first place, and doesn't take long to load on the Treo. All Joystiq Mobile has done is taken away the ability to view the comments on a story, arguably the more interesting part of the site. I don't get it.. I like the mobile main page, with just a list of headlines, and the fact when I click a story, it take me just to just the story. But sometimes, when I'm particularly bored in class, or particularly interested in the story and want to hear what the peanut gallery has to say, I want to read the comments. There is that link "View full version of Joystiq." I just don't think that works how it should at all. When I'm on a specific story page, and I click the full version of Joystiq link, it should take me to the full version of that story's page, INCLUDING the comments. Instead, it directs me back to the full version of the MAIN PAGE. If I wanted the full version of the main page, I would have clicked the full version link...ON THE MAIN PAGE! If I click the story from this full main page though, it takes me back to the MOBILE version of the story. There simply isn't a way to get to the full content I want because of this STUPID auto-redirection "feature." Frankly, this whole trend of "mobilizing" content for on the go viewing is retarded. Mobile devices are gaining bigger screens, and faster connections via multiple interfaces to not only the cell network, but wifi and WiMax. So as mobile devices are more and more capable of receiving and displaying the regular content, it is more and more frequent that they're being redirected to a shitty mobile version. Just don't get it...

I read it both at work completely in the open and at home, side by side with "teh pr0nz."

But I read it mostly at work, since most of my day is spent at work. Most of my time at home is spent gaming.

Heh heh, why am I not surprised at all that the 'at work' option is leading?

There should be an option for 'all of the above' or similar, since I read this at work and at home. I chose at work though because that's where the majority of my time on it is spent.

right next to my facebook/class tabs is joystiq... whether i'm back at home or attempting to cram the night before a midterm in the library- i'm compulsively checking joystiq.

now, so long as we're criticizing the layout of joystiq.com- will it ever be possible to implement a sign in feature, so we don't have to confirm a post via email Every time. I'd post more, but I'm just too lazy or too crunched for time to confirm anymore.

might i suggest joystiq's comments section be more forum-ish in nature? anyone else agree?

I dorm so unlike those who do multiple options at different times, since my "school" and "home" are the same, it's a combination of 2&4. But I voted for 4. And can you really blame me for looking at the 'stiq side by side with pr0n, with all those sites you guys tell me about?

What the hell is pr0n? Were you trying to talk about that old movie Tron? If so why is there a zero in it? What the hell is going on?!!?!?!?!?!??!?! You people might not get read at all if you continue to push the attention junkie envelope. So many posts just to have something "new." Having given no thought to what it is as long as it's something. I can't wait for the Wii because no one will be online to read the passe posts for months. Your comments will wither up on all posts, not just the meaningless ones, because they'll be too busy slashing Ganon in the face or bowling to their hearts content!!! GO WII!!!! Cartman will be playing soon too!!!

Yeah, I stopped going to the mobile site because I tired of having to input the "?m=false" crap to the URL after every story link just to read the comments.

I'm at work right now. Love it.

Well, I work at a newspaper as a copy-editor, and part of my job is I need to wait there, usually until 12:30-1:30am until the press starts printing out the final edition, which I check for mistakes (awesome job, if there's a mistake, I get to yell "Stop the presses!").

In that waiting period, when I've finished all my work, but the press isn't running yet...that's when I usually read Joystiq.

Not a knock though - I'm typing this right now while I should be checking on stuff.

Everyone reads Joystiq at work because they are the only gaming site that is not blocked by crappy Websense internet filtering. I bet Weblogs Inc. is paying monthly protection money to Websense to keep it that way.

We use Smartfilter at work and Joystiq is blocked. Luckily, I'm the proxy admin and I can view whatever I want! I just keep something else open that I can easily switch to if the boss comes by.

It depends on the article/post. I copy and paste lengthier pieces to a Word file, then print it out for reading on my smoke breaks. Using 11pt font and "to-the-edges" borders, I go through 5-15 pages a day.

I have to say this: Godbless you Joystiq... Why? Because you guys are nearly the only industry blog out there that isn't blocked by my company's servers for having a "games" tag. 90% of the links you post here I cannot access, so I have to take your word for it 'till I get home.

I also email myself text versions of "The Escapist" from home as well.

Don't take this wrong, your site is great at all, but when I'm at home, I would rather be *playing* games than reading about them. I only surf gaming sites at work because, obviously, I'm obsessed.

I read Joystiq at school, actually, exclusively. Because my school has blocked Kotaku and a few other web sites, leaving me with Joystiq as my only outlet. Not that I'm complaining or anything.

I work graveyard shift at a 266 suite hotel with plenty of downtime to surf Joystiq. @#30 our hotel uses websense too but if I want my internet surfing at work to be unfiltered I use jungleproxy.net first then head right to a site that's usually blocked or use it with google and then the options are endless! gigadee gigadee!

Yep at work right now. I check it all throu out the day while I'm here. AND I don't have to hide anything from the BOSS. Heck, some peps here are on EBay shopping and checking their bids so me on Joystiq is the last thing to worry about. It's practically the only gamesite that isn't blocked:).
Man, I love working for the government:)
