And Nintendo says graphics don't matter. I said "wow" to that. Who knew the Gamecube would eventually make games that looked like that?

TP is the only game I pre-ordered. I didn't have too much money to spend on games, so I definitely wanted to guarantee myself this.

I can't wait.

Zelda looks awesome. Okami looks good and innovative, but after awhile of playing the gameplay becomes a little redundant.

Looks great. The wolf-transformation scene is a little too American-Werewolf for me, but otherwise I'm very impressed with the style. I wonder why just pressing the A button isn't enough to start the game?

Twilight Princess is the only game I have ever been this excited about, and only the second game I've ever preorderd (the first being Suikoden V..that was a disapointment)
even if this was the only game coming out at launch, I would gladly still pay my $299.98 + tax to play it. Actually, I guess I did because its the only game I preordered with the system.
Yes, I paid $300+ for Zelda, and no, I don't care. From everything I've heard about it, it will be well worth it.
(and before the inevitable "you can just get it for gamecube and save tons of money" I actually am getting the gamecube version as well, but will probably only play the wii version. I may be a gamer, and I may be a Nintendo fanboy, but I am a Zelda fanboy most of all.)

Having said that. These are really amazing!

Is it strange that the trailer made me less enthusiastic about it? It looks like quite a departure from the other Zelda's to me but I will reserve judgement until I play it.

Looks great as I assumed it would, and very reminiscent of the intro for OOT.
However, does anyone else think that they over-used the "godlights"?
You know, the giant rays of holy sunlight.

I love the 360 and all, but I'd give up Gears of War in a heartbeat to have this game on the platform. Makes me wish I didn't sell my GameCube.

Does the Wii version have any graphical advantages?

Yeah, I'm surprised you didn't link to the higher quality videos on Nintendo's site. I'm also surprised that someone compared this to Shadow of Colossus and not the other way around.

The draw distance, textures, animations and overall visual beauty proves that most developers didn't care to put much effort into developing for the Gamecube. Nintendo certainly has a vested interest in making quality titles for their consoles, but at least they're willing to develop those titles. It's unfortunate that the GC was the most under appreciated console of the last generation. It was and still is a capable system, as evidenced by these videos.

And Nintendo still says graphics don't matter, which is technically true because if you look closely the landscapes are highly polgonal. What Miyamoto has maintained for 3D Zelda since Ocarina of Time is that the animation, interactivity and exploration of that world are higher priority than the visual appeal. Not to mention Hyrule's going to be MUCH more populated with people, enemies, puzzles than SotC.

I love SotC, and it's truly one of the best, if not THE best, adventure game for PS2. The similarities are aesthetic at most.

I love being able to say 'Twilight Princess will pwn *insert game here*' and not one person can argue. I don't care if it's Halo 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, or anything else. This is game is gonna destroy everything else on the map of video games. By a country mile. Sony and MS fanboys - run in fear.

With Link being the male choice for hotness, apparently, this fits here. Hey, why are comments disabled in the "Gay" article? It's kind of cowardly. I wanted to comment there to compliment Bonnie on a well-written, well-thought-out, and very interesting read, and couldn't.

Yeah, i thought the Ocarina of Time intro had a lonely Link on horseback riding through hyrule...sometimes fast, sometimes slow...with some somber music playing.

So that would be SOTC "stealing" from the Zelda series. But i dont really believe in that type of "stealing" as bad. If you can make it better, go for it! As a gamer (consumer), i win either way...

@#11:

You had trouble with the screen too? I restarted the game, and it still wouldn't work. All that kept happening when I presed it was it asked if I wanted to watch it again. I hope Nintendo fixes this before launch day. I really don't want Nintendy to turn into Sony....

What about the little town though!! I really think this will be all round the best 1 yet, it appears to have a similar dark tone to Majora's mask yet the epic feel of the ocarina! Ofcourse having not played it we must reserve judgement i suppose, it could be balls (not really though). Cant believe i have to wait until Dec 8

ejflex,

I've been a longtime Zelda fan – even studied the games – and so I've come to discover that Zelda games are based on their own instilled mythology and the mythology/history of our real world. They are rooted very deep, and I think that's why they resonate with so many fans.

To say that Zelda was influenced by Shadow of the Colossus is baseless, and the proof is on you to prove it. It can be your opinion, sure, but it's a pretty stupid one.

Metahuman has it right in this respect. You can say they "look similar" or they have this or that in common. But the former is just an insult to the game's creators.

SOTC= best game since zelda.
LOZ-TP= best game since SOTC.

It's not a bad thing that they feed off each other like this.

I've enjoyed every zelda game, and hope they don't dissapoint with this one. I do have to say that SOTC did have a style and gravitas I enjoyed probably more than 98% of the games out there. Quite the art style, and this game seems a bit more, smooth? I don't know.

It has been reported on some sites that only the Wii version supports widescreen. (I guess drawing those extra polygons and textures is a good way to use the additional power the Wii has.) I don't know if this has been officially confirmed.

Wow...just one look at these videos and I'm pretty much dying for the 19th to come.

I'm getting this game with my Wii, as well as Red Steel.

Though that coment about the Wii having advanced lighting abilities; I heard the only graphical difference between the GCN version and Nwii version was the ability to go into 16:3 widescreen mode (Wii only)

Dude are you an absolute retard? I am defending Zelda, not bashing it. No one is a bigger Zelda fan than I.. and I dont need the lecture on it's mythology thanks.
I was simply pointing out that even if there were some influences, that all other "epic" games have been influenced by the Zelda series. I wans't necessarily saying this opening sequence was influenced by Shadow of the Colossus. Read into things more please before you bash someone.

Geeze, it was a joke guys. If games didn't borrow from each other, we wouldn't have DK Country, Castlevania, or any number of classic and great games that took a concept from a previous game, and made it their own. It was a compliment to both Zelda, and SOTC for being so beautifully done that games should take visual cues from them.

Zelda and Sotc shouldn't be compared anywhere! I'm offended by that. Now Sotc was a great game but zelda OoT is leaps and bounds over that game. Stop just stop. Even fanboys have to admit this or your not a true gamer and have only been playing games since PS2.

hehe. I said ALMOST.

Also, about the SoTC debate, appropriation is a very common and even integral aspect of art. It's when something is flat out copied for lack of an original idea that things turn ugly. TP doesn't seem to be lacking in originality.

God, I can't wait for this game.
