Today's hottest game video: Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess Trailer

The top slot on YouTube today was occupied by Link and crew in a new Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess trailer. It barely managed to pass the second place winner, which was the intro video from the same game. If you ask us, the intro video is a bit more spine tingling, especially with the "Press A + B" menu at the start screen, *drool*. This trailer has no sound effects, no lines, just a (somewhat cheesy) fanfare-tastic soundtrack and lots of video goodness from the game. Link's wolf transition looks a bit weak, but we're hoping it's just a trimmed down version in the vid.
The best comment on YouTube is from agent012 who says, " wow the graphics are better than the gamecubes!" We're still not sure if that's sarcasm or honesty. Check out the video after the break and start jonesing.

Seeing these two Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess videos this morning really made my whole day great. I'm glad to see that both clips were seen by so many people on youtube and for that matter, all over the internet. Way to go Nintendo; you're sure to have gotten more Wii fans after today. I'll be buying this game twice, once for Wii and a month later for GameCube.

Here's hoping the wolf-bits aren't a poorly done rehash of Okami
Ritz @ Nov 3rd 2006 2:12AM
Yea, I used to have concerns about the wolf aspect... but then you know what? I remembered how much I loved playing Majora's Mask. Which is basically all about taking on different forms, other than human, during the gameplay. If Nintendo got it right already with MM, I am sure they have it all figured out for TP.
edo @ Nov 3rd 2006 2:45AM
OMG... I think I got zeldargasm.
TwilightKnight @ Nov 3rd 2006 2:30AM
Yeah there is no concern over if Nintendo did the Wolf parts right.
I am personally loving this since these came out on my 20th birthday. It is like a presant from Nintendo itself...

fawazr:8e61bf20 @ Nov 3rd 2006 2:33AM
Yeah, this is obviously a rip off of American Werewolf in London, Ladyhawke, Okami and Shadow Of The Colossus.
Shame on Nintendo for ripping off those franchises. Nintendo hasn't done an original thing ever. Nintendo FTL!!!11 /srcsm

You guys really think the soundtrack to that trailer is "cheezy"? You're seriously going to freely admit that you have absolutely no concept of taste or class, and mock an orchestral compostion that is considered one of the most emotionally charged game trailer scores of all time?
Typical. I'm done with this bullshit site.

Videos are great and i am glad I was able to get them up when it seemed like nintendo pulled them from wii.com last night

If this is the best the wii can di i'm staying the fuc* away from it, the game will be on Gamecube wich i already got... I'm not paying 250 for last gen graphics

It's not the best the Wii can do. From what I remember no big visual enhancements was made for the wii version.
"The more you know!"
BlackTron @ Nov 3rd 2006 3:36AM
@12: Sigh. This is derived from the classic Zelda theme.
I also totally disagree that it was cheesy. I'm the most cheese and BS resistant person ever, and the opening gave me goosebumps the first time.
As for the Wii's graphical capabilities. The only difference between this and the GC version is 16:9 support.
Mank @ Nov 3rd 2006 4:01AM
I am so pissed I watched that, I've stayed away from anything spoileristic for so long, but once I started, I couldn't stop.
But yeah, I agree the music wasn't cheesy, most of it comes from Zelda music anyway.
impact24 @ Nov 3rd 2006 4:01AM
I agree with BlackTron and Ryan.
I was quite captivated by the soundtrack, especially how it made use of zelda tunes to make it sound new and glorified. Furthermore, it fit the action very well. Bottom line is, I don't find it cheesy at all.
M4gast0n @ Nov 3rd 2006 4:11AM
I'm pretty sure they didn't mean the music was cheesy guys, they're talking about the way it was implimented; as an overlay instead of natural integration. It's a valid point, the clip would have been more engrossing with a couple of sword clashes and what-not.
Amos @ Nov 3rd 2006 4:11AM
I'm not "done with this site," but seriously, somehwat cheesy? I was expecting some stupid music after the description, and instead I heard something classic cleverly placed overly. Kevin Kelly rep -1. That's right, I'm keeping score.
BlackTron @ Nov 3rd 2006 4:26AM
@17: "just a (somewhat cheesy) fanfare-tastic soundtrack"
Oh, sure. He wasn't talking about the "music itself" at all. Just the *soundtrack*.
I would do well to not become accustomed to posting here....
Because I answer posts.
Meg @ Nov 3rd 2006 4:27AM
@ 12
The trailer music was reused from the 2005 E3 trailer for the game - back from when it was supposed to come out in Nov. of 2005.
So the music for the trailer has been around for over a year now.
Jeff @ Nov 3rd 2006 4:29AM
Is it just me that yawns whenever i hear people mentioning zelda?
Goodness the games are boring.
Sure i'll play them if i'm bored and have nothing else to play, they're okay as far as an adventure game goes....but they're just that.
Zelda's the most overrated modern game there is, brought on by mass nostalgia people get when playing them. Wether or not the classic games were great when you played them as a kid is irrelevant, the modern games are total crap and you shouldn't let those fuzzy feelings of playing zelda on yer snes at christmas let you lose sight of the fact that zelda now sucks.
Let this silly franchise die allready
fawazr @ Nov 3rd 2006 4:54AM
Well said, Jeff. Zelda quite obviously sucks. Your dilettantish and near-astute claims only go to prove as much. If only more gamers would wake from their self-induced slumber of nostalgia for the halcyon years of gaming. Alas, the mantle of objectivity and sanity in this painfully corrupted hobby lie squarely on the rational shoulders of gamers like us. At the very least, we should be thankful that we have been spared from the mania-inducing fanaticism that is this sorry, misguided franchise. /srcsm

Calling one of the consistently top games of all time (Zelda Ocarina of Time) is in decline needs to have his head examined.

Burnt Meatloaf @ Nov 3rd 2006 5:37AM
I've never played Zelda, so I can't comment on the video directly. However:
Nothing is more cheezy than some MIDI music trying to mimick an orchestra, but this was pulled of pretty damn well. It still sounds a bit flat, though. I give it two thumbs up, especially by gaming standards.
*Mikael: "It's not the best the Wii can do. From what I remember no big visual enhancements was made for the wii version."
I see this as a big problem with the Wii. Since the machine is so architecturally similar to the Gamecube, most developers will probably know how to push the Wii to its limits at launch. I don't think Wii games are going to look much better down the road then they do now. The same cannot be said about the other systems. The graphics will improve by leaps and bounds over the next few years, especially indie games, as more, better (and affordable) engines and tools are made available.
Also, the Wii's extreme lack of texture memory is *really* obvious in this video, even given the crappy compression of Internet videos. I really wish Nintendo would start using flat memory models like most everybody else. The Gamecube had only 1MB of texture cache, and I can't imagine the Wii supporting more than 3 or 4, which is pathetic these days. I'm all for gameplay over graphics, but... come on -- Nintendo didn't just pull back on graphics, they decided to give up entirely. Are we just going to admit graphics have come as far as they can, and just not make any new GPUs for the next 15 years? There's always room for improvement, and hardware manufacturers can't just "give up."
Zelos @ Nov 3rd 2006 5:35AM
@Jeff
I never even owned a SNES, the first Zelda game I played was Windwaker and I absolutely loved it and consider it one of my favourite games. I'm currently playing Ocarina and really enjoying that too. The way the world is put together and the quality of the puzzles are head and shoulders above most games.
DrXym @ Nov 3rd 2006 5:35AM
@RC_Tech true, Zelda isn't there.
But look at what the #1 game is on the list - Black and White. A game which was awesome to behold but was sunk by a number of irritants. One of the biggest by far was the overuse of gestures. At first its cute that you have to draw a shape to cast a spell. Then it becomes overwhelmingly frustrating when game doesn't recognize the move or you forget in the heat of action which gesture from the many you're meant to make.
Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Wii should stick to simple gestures, preferably ones that correspond to game movements. Any game that requires you learn more abstract gestures, more than a couple, or requires you use them in a middle of a fight is going to be an exercise in frustration.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Nov 3rd 2006 5:42AM

I agree 100%. Mouse gestures were supposed to be revoutionary in Firefox and other next-gen web browsers. What happened to all that? Just a fad, I'm afraid. Improvements to the graphical interface made gestures obsolete almost instantly (that, and media buttons on keybords. I'll take a scrollwheel and "back" and "close" buttons over gestures anyday).

The Press A + B bit was indeed rair-raising. It basically means it's fucking done. It's finished. Some guy could be playing it right now. I know it's to be expected, but since the day I saw the original trailer back in 2004, I've never considered this game being more than a legend in itself.
Man I can't wait to play this. Although I fear Ocarina may have raised the bar way too much. We'll see.
Cottonball @ Nov 3rd 2006 8:45AM
Link's look in this game is rather frightening, as are the other NPC's. Kinda creepy.
killr0y @ Nov 3rd 2006 7:41AM
I guarantee if this game was called "Wolf-Elf" and developed by a company other than Nintendo, the collective "Meh" let out by the world that watched this trailer would blow the eardrums out on every living gamer. Give it up, Nintendo fanboys. This is nothing but nostalgia pulling at your heart-strings. People who haven't vested any time into the Zelda franchise will see this as nothing but a trainwreck. With the mega-letdown known as the Gamecube, its obvious why Nintendo fanboys are seeing this game as the coming of Nintendo's second golden age, and I'm sure there will be more than one Gamesite that praises this game as GOTY due to that fact, but please.. wake up and smell the Next-Gen.
is @ Nov 3rd 2006 7:51AM
"People who haven't vested any time into the Zelda franchise will see this as nothing but a trainwreck"
And herin lies the rub - anyone who HAS vested any time in the series and played one of the games (specifically the 3d one, specifically OoT, which is heralded as the greatest game of all time by a huge proportion of the gaming community, and not just nintendo fanboys) will see this as nothing but a spine-tingling teaser for what is sure to be a beautiful game. Trainwreck? Are you serious? The obvious polish and beauty alone prevent the game from being condemned as such. At most, it will not live up to the huge expectation, but there is no doubt in anyones mind that it will be one of the top games this christmas.
Unless youre a rabid anti-nintendo compaigner.....

Yeah, especially because the music in this trailer was performed by a full orchestra :p The quality's just down a bit because this is a youtube video
nootau @ Nov 3rd 2006 8:09AM
@Burnt Meatloaf
Zelda:TP's graphics have nothing to do with the Wii's texture memory, this is a gamecube game (as most of the launch titles are), not a Wii game. I showed this to a friend of mine (a PC gamer) and he was like "WTF! How can the gamecube do that with so little memory (40MB, 3MB texture)!)" I thought it was funny. Anyhow, No one knows what the Wii's GPU specs are but Zelda is obviously pushing the Gamecube to the limits.
And about the music. Its obviously a take on the standard Zelda opening from original "Legend of Zelda". Its very creative and well done. It seems to be converted into some operatic form, and someone is singing the tune instead of instruments playing it....reminiscent of OoT.
For those who dont remember, this game was pretty much finished in 2005 [1]...BEFORE Okami lol It was going to launch against Shadow of the Colossus and the Xbox 360 lol

Yes, because everybody who doesn't think like you is delusional.
You obviously don't like Zelda, so don't buy the games. Now, it's only your opinion that the games suck, and we don't share that opinion. Get over it already.
The Intangible Fact @ Nov 3rd 2006 8:32AM
OK Enough....one last sip of my primo coffee.
Anybody saying that the zelda is overrated needs to take a look at some of the other games out there before they make that judgement. Do I need to mention Final Fantasy? Or MGS? Nintendo has always delivered great zelda games since the NES. The transition to 3D from 2D was perfect.
People that say zelda sucks are the ones the never owned a console till the PS2 or just want to stir up a war. If really feel that zelda sucks...I feel sorry for you because your missing out on great games.
Now I disagree with the whole transforming to a wolf thing because I think its taking the franchise in the wrong direction. I thought OoT was better than Majora's Mask because OoT was more like the SNES ones except in 3D. I hope Nintendo knows what their doing with the TP. If it bombs they could lose some fans.

If you like Zelda (ie. a Zeldaholic) then this will be a great game since its the flagship release (ie. not a handheld or that cheesy 4 swords).
If you're not into Zelda, then you may not like it.
Why are you so upset about that?

crono141 @ Nov 3rd 2006 9:33AM
Sorry, you made is sound like only people who liked zelda previously could possibly be interested in this game.
Given your previous comments about Nintendo gaming in other threads, this isn't an unreasonable conclusion to come to.
I'm just tired of all the sony idiots in this thread bashing on a game that will most likely become one of the best and most revered games in history. Now, I'm being a bit optimistic, for all I know this game will tank, but I doubt it.
Everything anyone has ever written about their experience with this game has been nothing but positive.
To claim this game will only be good because it has the name "Zelda" is moronic. The most a name brings is instant recognition, the gameplay will speak for itself.

His problem is that everyone of your comments allude to the 'fact' that you have to be a fanboy to enjoy Nintendo games. You also constantly jab Nintendo with every chance you get - something that gets incredibly old fast. If it's not the 'flash' point and click comment, it's something else, such as "not a handheld or that cheesy 4 swords".
Seriously, fuck off already.
And you wonder why people think your a douchebag. Take a hint and go post in one of the many Sony fanboy blogs.
Your comments will be recieved with open arms.
VorpalMonkey @ Nov 3rd 2006 9:47AM
So, I hate to say it, but my enthusiasm for this game is dried up. A year ago I would have creamed my jeans, but I'm pissed that they delayed it just so their new system could have a decent launch title (I understand WHY they did it, and think it was probably a good business move since it's the only gem in a sea of mediocrity, but that doesn't mean I have to like it) when I should have been playing this game A YEAR AGO.
I love Zelda, it's probably the single biggest reason I am a gamer (thank you ALTTP+OoT) but I ran out of excitement about a year ago. They said the delays were to add new features. Yeah, a wiimote. Awesome.
Fuck you Nintendo.
