I agree, though I hope Nintendo thinks up something good for how to type in web addresses. I'd like to see a USB keyboard for the Wii, instead of an onscreen keyboard.

Fucking dumbass, conform to non-conformity Joystiq. You guys always purposely avoid anything that might put you in the same galaxy as anyone who might remotely be considered a fanboy, there-by completely missing the boat one of the most important topics of the day. What do we get instead? Fucking PS3 browser video!? FUCKING BULLSHIT, JOYSTIQ.

TWILIGHT PRINCESS IMPRESSIONS BY ALL THE MAJOR SITES.

Check IGN. Check Gamespot. Check Game Informer. Check any decent site, for crying out loud.

POST IT, BITCHES!!!

@ #4.

No you didn't, num-nuts.

48-hour gameplay impressions. Lots of journalists spent 2 whole days with the game at NOA this week, and their (lengthly and thorough) impressions are surfacing. Why isn't Joystiq covering that instead of lame-ass PS3 browser crap???

Analog mouse cursor? Welcome to 2000 with the Dreamcast browser. Only six windows too? Seems like a bizzare number and I don't doubt the PS3 has horsepower for much more than only 6.

A web browser is going to look like ass on a television 26" or larger, and it will look like complete junk in 480i.

There's really no point to this. It sucked on the Dreamcast, it sucked on WebTV, it sucks on MSNTV, and it will suck on anything else that puts the internet on your television. The size is all wrong. You're either straining to read, or filling your screen with big, ugly fonts and images.

I loved the Dreamcast, but web browsing was absolutely fricking useless on a console, and remains so for most people.

It's funny to see a lot of xbots complaining about there being a web-browser on PS3 when it's bound to come in an update to the Xbox 360 in spring next year or earlier. Oddly enough, it'll be heralded then as the second coming of Christ and the proof that Microsoft innovates.

ZeroCorpse (#11), I have to say that I disagree with you. I never had a problem with the Dreamcast browser (I was reliant on it when my computer was down!), and all I've ever had is a 20-something inch SDTV.
And I never had the Dreamcast mouse, either. I browsed fine using the analog stick.

Support for USB/Bluetooth mice would be nice for PS3's browser. Ya know, it's nice to have alternatives? Analog stick browsing is nice, but mouse browsing is better.

And only six tabs? Sheesh, PS3's more powerful than this computer I'm on (by leaps and bounds), and even I can do many more tabs in Firefox (not that I ever need to, though).
Seems like a weird number to be stuck to, but probably more than I'd ever use, anyways.
('course, I won't even be getting a PS3... not until the price drops severely, anyways...)

Not to knock this in any way, it seems slick and functional to me. But I like the Wii browser better due to the simple interface (mainly just 5 buttons at the bottom of the screen) and the ability to zoom in anywhere on the page. I suspect Sony will be constantly updating this browser like they do with the PSP which is good since that most issues will eventually be remedied. I don't know if Nintendo/Opera will do that or not.

@KawF

As Sony fanboys say Sony innovates. Nintendo always focuses on innovating the controller, but the Wii has it's most innovative controller to date. MS innovated with HDD in Xbox1 and XBL, and drastically improved it on the 360. Plus customizable console, and multiple SKUs. These are things not previously seen in consoles. But I can't really think of anything Sony has innovated...

I'm wondering why Sony insists on using that crazy "text messaging" method of entering the URL. That's the way it is on the PSP as well. Why can't they just have an onscreen keyboard pop up? Does Sony think everybody in the world sits around text messaging all day so that we should be fluent in "8,44,4,7,0,4,7777,0,66,88,8,7777,1111"?
The madness. The madness!

The Xcast doesn't have a web browser so it can't be gud.

Stop it Sony, stop it.

I h8t them always stealing from Nintendo and Microsoft.

The Xcast is the leading console despite selling less than the PS2 consistently. We the games media will pwn reality forget shipment figures.

The PS3 wont sell cause of the price thats why it is already sold out and people are camping out already to buy it.

blah
blah

But it is all bullshit, you peasants don't know jack.

I think the 6 window limit is in place so that the number of browsers you can open just sitting at a dash, and the number you can open while playing (pausing) a game are the same. They'd probably rather not swap out a large chunk of ram to the the drive every time you context switch to gamefaqs or youtube.

If you can't hit home button and get to the browser during a game, then why even bother? I keep my laptop on my desk just so I can look stuff up while playing, because so many pc games hate alt-tab. (Psychonauts was great, it pauses whenever it loses focus. Genius!)

What I'd like to see is a text entry piece that can be swapped out from several different choices that can be downloaded. Numpad, osk, gesture, dasher, with more in the future as clever people figure more out. I hate that stupid numpad metaphor, it's insane to emulate a hack necessary for phones on something with an analog stick. WTF are they thinking? I don't get this stupid obsession with cellphones.

I tried this out at the Sony event here in NYC and it was OK, no big deal. They had a keyboard and mouse hooked up and the only thing that was weird was the lack of a visible URL input - you had to hit the 'start' button to call up a field where you could enter a URL. The window/visible resolution was very low - I loaded my own website (1100x700 sized-window) and it didn't initially fit, although the Sony person there pointed out you could increase the window size on the monitor (not on the fly with a pull tab) by hitting the option along the right margin called 'large window' or something.

I don't really get into web browsers on my consoles, but I'm not mad at the option - video on the internet is a much bigger deal now and waaay more feasible that it was when the Dreamcast had browsing, so dumbing out and watching YouTube, etc. on your TV is more possible now.

Elmer92413, you can pair any standardized bluetooth device with this box - keyboard, mouse, headset...

only joystiq would point out that a video for a webbrowser only got roughly 25,000 views, where videos for an *ACTUAL GAME* get roughly 115,000 views each.

well, *DUHHH* joystiq!

gee, what do people on the internet find more interesting to view? uh, videos for upcoming video games? or videos for a web browser, neverminding that they are using a web browser to view this information?

the fact that that PS3 web browser got so many views is disturbing to me.

now, videos for Virtua Fighter, Resistance, MGS4, Gran Turismo, Lair, etc, i'm sure, would garner a lot more views. you know, *video games*. kind of like the Zelda videos. sheesh, joystiq.
