To all those saying that the PS3 will be different, I have this to say. Sure the wireless connectivity won't be propriatary (hard to do that with bluetooth), but the motion sensing probably won't be. They will charge other campanies for it as well. No company is better. They are just different. I own a 360, I'll admit it. I won't be getting a PS3 either, not because I don't want one, but because I'm goin to school I can't afford one at this pint in time. Everyone just needs to quit comparing the 2. Don't you see, companies are usinng you. Let them do their own advertising.

"And, this will never come out for Wii because the Guitar controller is more innovative than the wiimote."

Wow, it's getting thick in here. Five buttons and a toggle switch are more innovative than a the Wiimote? Riiiiiiight. Perhaps you are referring to the mysterious "Star Power" technology or the innovative wammy bar control.

Nintendo has about as much to fear from a plastic guitar as it does from fishing controllers.

You know, with an ounce of brainpower you could cannibalize a 360 wireless controller and put the guts into a Guitar Hero controller. Problem solved.

I wrote this F***ING thread W/out reading any other because when I read this type of SH*T it REALLY pisses me off!! GH 1 sold a TON of units, GH 2 will more than likely sell three times the amount on the PS2 alone, how can MS be SO stupid and not share it's wireless tech with a company that will make a TON of money for them?? To top it off they stick it in the corn hole of ALL 360 owners who imagined playing an AWSOME KISS song not worring about ripping the cord out of thier 360's.(You know who I'm talking about!!). Come on guy's, we're in the Nex-Gen of gaming should'nt wireless be the standard??

The wiimote is just this mutant device, it connects to other devices to take on their special powers!

I mean, aside from the nun-chuk and classic controller you really don't need anything else, and two of those come packed in with the system.

Everything else is just "If you feel like it, go right ahead" it's just preference after that. (Don't need no light gun or ubisoft steering wheels) and who says they don't just make it a shell for the controller? It'd probably be pretty cheap, plug it into the bottom of the guitar and rock out..

To add to comment # 21 ( I know it was a while ago but i just read the article), I own a PSX to USB adapter (they're available from play-asia.com) and tried a normal dualshock 2 on my 360 just to see if it would work, and sadly, it didnt. I know you were talking about a ps3 for that, and it may work, but for all of us that were thinking we could rig an original wireless GH controller to work with our 360's, we're sort of SOL, unless someone can find another way of gettin the job done.

The motion sensing device will likely be a readily available component made by Alps like everything else in the PS3 controller seems to be.

Plus, there's nothing that says the motion sensing has to be provided with the exact same sensors because it's just translated into data anyway (i.e. rolling the controller 45 degrees is the same no matter what sensor is measuring the change).

lol @ "most bands, even smaller local bands use wireless guitars"
ignorant statement of the week.

Let me point out this example: I work at Musicians Friend. I basically get stuff half off (at-cost + 10%, usually equals out to about half off), and we don't use wireless. Not because of cost you see, but because almost every band I've seen use wireless equipment has had issues with it cutting out. even the high dollar ones.
It's not a reliable technology yet.

Regarding a wireless 360 controller, I have a possible solution that'll require a genious with radio wave skills to hook up.
Think of a real guitar's wireless system. It still plugs into your guitar, and it has a little box you attach to your guitar strap.
Well, what if somebody made a little box that on one end plugged into the controller cord (which is wired, for Microsoft's needs) and sends a wireless signal into the little adapter that plugs into the USB port? Oh yeah.

non-wireless controller aside, I AM picking up the PS2 version this weekend, just because I can't wait that long.
Hopefully by 360 release they get a wireless guitar packaged in. When it does come out, I'll either keep my PS2 Guitar Hero 2 or sell it and buy the 360 version. Why? Downloadable Content.

Saying that it's not going to happen is a little misleading. We checked with Red Octane back on the 27th and were told they were working on it and the official word was:

"We have not yet received final approval from Microsoft to utilize their wireless protocol."

That's a lot different from Microsoft denying them the ability to use it.

Red Octane could easily make a wireless guitar controller for the 360 if only Red Octane would pay Microsoft for the rights. However I'm pretty sure Red Octane would rather die and let fans play wired before paying any rights.

"Will the cable be of good length, or is there an extension cable out yet for the 360?"

Yeah, it's called a USB extension and it's about $2-3 on Newegg.

As for the wire, I personally don't care. I wasn't going to get the wireless guitar for PS2, so it's a wash as far as I'm concerned. Plus, HD support and downloadable songs seems like good enough reasons for me to wait til 07...

Eric: "I won't be getting a PS3 either, not because I don't want one, but because I'm goin to school I can't afford one at this pint in time."

Freudian slip? Fewer pints would free up more money for games.

"Most people actually do use wireless guitars now-a-days. Even in smaller local bands."

haha, no, no they do not. I probably go to 4-5 concerts a month, if not more, and I can count the number of wireless rigs I've seen on one hand, EVER.

I really hope they can resolve this. Call me a fanbiy if you will, but I personally feel very apprehensive about "rocking out too hard" with a wired controller and accidentally pulling my 360 off my 52" TV. Not to mention the fact that with a large TV and this style of game, yo don;t want to have to stand directly in front of it! Please Microsoft, make tham sign a 500 page NDA regarding the Proprietary Wireless and promise to not make any more accessories without liscencing through Microsoft and give this game the advatage it very well deserves- a wireless guitar with a wireless system.

Ya know...

This whole argument seems pretty lame.

It's obviously up to RedOctane, NOT Microsoft, if they want to make a wireless controller. It's apparent that they already have their own wireless tech that they will be using for the PS2. So, the only difference would be that they can't use Microsoft's built in wireless and you have a USB dongle to plug in instead of a cable.

Honestly, I have never felt that restricted by the cord coming from my guitar in the first place, but going wireless would be a nice touch. It's just not a deal breaker for me.

Way to flame bait with that "guitar controller is more innovative than the wii-mote" comment Optimus. Why you gotta be a hater! I suppose the PS3's SIXAXIS is innovative though, right? Seriously though, there is very little innovation in making a controller that just emulates a real world object. That kind of like saying that a steering wheel controller is innovative. It may be clever, and it's certainly effective, but that's not really innovation.

Guitar Hero II was probably the last PS2 game I'll buy (I've switched to Xbox360), but I loved the game so much I bought two of the wireless controllers (and just bought two more as a Christmas gift). I'm bummed the 360 version won't have wireless. I was even considering buying it for the 360 also, so I could retire my PS2 for good. (I'm assuming the 360 version will have downloadable content, right? I mean, with Xbox Live, I'm expecting to be able to download new songs every month or so.)
