I feel bad for anyone that would pay $2000 for a PS3. There has got to be something wrong in their head. And by saying that, I believe the PS3 will open many wallets on Ebay for at least that amount.

I think it will be closer to $2,000. Think about it...premium ps3 = $600...then you factor in HD cables (not included), extra controller, and two games...damn near $1,000 already...then you factor in the hype and there you go...

Come on? Is this a real question? If the 360 fetched over $1000US while only worth $400US, you know the ps3's pricepoint on ebay is going to be even more extreme.

They will go over $2,000 on average, I'm betting. The guaranteed pre-order slips have been hitting $1500 on average. A solid unit in hands will change the willingness of people to bid on it completely.

If I was a millionaire and didn't feel like waiting in line to get a preorder or attempt one on launch day I would pay a few grand for one. I wouldn't call someone stupid for spending a lot of cash if they can afford it.

I disagree with #5, people will pay that much for a video game system. Just look at other launches that had low stock (I'm looking at you, Microsoft)

I'm thinking most will be around $1,800 if not higher.

My roommate sold his for $1330. Everything I've heard from people who do this kind of thing is that it's best to sell as soon as possible, because the prices keep getting lower and lower. I don't know about the PS3, though, since they're having so much trouble making them. I'm guessing the average will be around $1500.

My guess is that Ebay will be flooded. The first hundred or so people who get their PS3's up there might get a decent price, but that's it.
It happened with the PSP. They weren't being sold for more than the retail on Ebay for the entire month after launch because there was so many of them on there.

I'm going to say not over $1000. Remember how well the PSP sold when it first came out. The PS3 will do a little better certainly, Sony has more mindshare among consoles and the extremely limited supply will drive up the price a bit, but I don't think that the demand is there for the PS3 like it is for the Wii.

Guys the cell is not that fantastic, lets look at it. The 360 has 3 proccesorS which developers can use for what ever they like. The Cell in the ps3 is the equivilent of 9 processors however the developers can only use one of those cores/proccesor for the game all of the others are restricted to certain aspects of a game. That said the 360 = PS3 in power. I will be getting both anyway.

To answer the question: $2k

It's funny how some people think these are millionaires buying this stuff. I know two guys who are multi-millionaires and they are the cheapest bastards you've ever seen. It's the "lottery mentality" of easy cash that makes you think that rich people easily part with their gold....but the opposite is true.
They're rich because they don't like to part with it.

No the people who buy these units just like to think they're rich. Usually a single guy with a large disposable income or a spoiled child who gets everything he wants (from the dual income of Mom&Dad....or the alamony money from Dad).

Highest price on Ebay for a PS3? $2650

Right now the AVERAGE for pre-sales on Ebay is between $1500 and $1600. Some have gone for as much as $2500. I have 3 to sell and I will be listing one before the 17th in case demand drops but I don't see that happening. I think the launch day average will be over $2000 easily. I would be disappointed if I didn't make a $1000 net profit on each console I sell.

i've heard from people in the line outside toys r us that they were going to hang onto the ps3 and wait until just before christmas before selling to catch desperate folk who can't get it anywhere else in time for xmas day. im sure the promise of an actual console and not just a piece of paper will increase the selling price beyond 2k.

Its all about supply and demand and obviously the demand at launch will totally PWN the supply at that time. So I am going to go with $1500 to $2000 and if there are even less than the 400,000 units that sony is saying then it will even get higher. If these people are already paying $1500 to $2000 for pre-orders then I am sure the will be willing to pay a few hundred dollars more when its actually out. Hell I remember when the ps2 came out at $299, I knew a few people that paid right at a $1000 to get one with little or no extras at all.

"24. It's sick to see people exploit gamers like this. I don't care which system(s) you support, crap like this shouldn't be tolerated."

You are absolutely right but no one is forcing anyone else to pay that price, these people know that they are paying $2000 for something thats obviously alot cheaper in the store(if you can find one). But this teaches us the meaning of value. You will only pay what you think its worth to you. If you think its worth $2000 then thats what its worth.

"18. I would say $1000-$1500. And definately lower than $2000 irregardless. Any higher and I might as well buy a high-end computer, which has plenty of supply."

Its just like when the (pos) PT Cruiser came out several years ago, people where easily paying 5k to 10k over sticker to get one. Of course at 10k more you can get a tahoe with really nice features(in which they were readily available) but thats not what people wanted.

People are really stupid if they anywhere near the amounts that are being thrown around here. I recently picked up a brand new factory sealed XBOX 360 Premium for $260 shipped thanks to Yahoo Auctions. That will get me through until the PS3's are plentiful. If I ever do decide to sell my 360, I'll probably be able to make a profit too :)

I've gotta say $3,000. And before everyone starts calling me crazy - Think about it. 360s went for over $2,000 and that's without a crazy supply shortage that's leaving less PS3s available than PS2s. Anybody care to remember that crazy episode? Didn't think so.

That's not to say $3000 is gonna be the average by any means. I'm guessing the average will be $1,800 - $2,300. Anyway you look at it, though, there's practically a guaranteed 200%+ selling point for this thing on ebay. All I can say is, "Ready. Set. Go!

Screw camping out, that's crazy. I'm getting mine on ebay. I'll go up to $1200, any more that that is too much. And that's for the premium system only. (That's the only one that's launching right?)

1500? I don't know. Thing is that you won't just be able to go buy one for about 6 months especially in the UK. Ayone know when the silver version is coming out?

The people bidding now are lasy or money is irrelevant.

Not all retailers are doing the pre-order thing.

That is, there will be units for sale on the 17th, and they can save the $1-2k eBay tax by camping out at CC or some other big box chain... if they cant score one then, then thats the time to be looking for one on eBay.

Heh heh, aussie price for the 60gb ps3....999.95 AUD. So we're already paying a grand. I say we, but i mean people large quantities of money.

I'm personally going the wii option. Looks like it'll be a bit of fun. Plus, you know, the price of the ps3 is over a months rent.

Wouldn't it be funny ,if for some reason, no one cared about the PS3 after it launched? I'd laugh in the face of every eBay seller, because I just don't agree with it. Going through some of your comments, I saw a few that actually bought more than one PS3's, just so they could sell it on eBay. I call foul.

But anyway, once Christmas rolls around, the average will probably be around $2000.

Oh, and I can't wait to see GameStop's Uber-Omega Chimera Caduceus Bundle that goes for the same price as a slightly used Cessna.

Everyone here is living in a fantasy world!

You will see PS3 60GB auctions go for $2800 to $3500.

Just base it on the prices that 360 went for then increase it a couple of hundred dollars. There are people always willing to pay for something they want. It seems illogical and stupid but don't be surprised by the desire that this item will have on some bidders.
