Comparing Wii and PS3 link love on the social web

Japanese blogger Funaki put together a 'lil mashup of four large social websites that compares linkage of "Wii" versus "PS3." Totals are calculated daily according to the following: Digg - total of all stores from all time; Technorati - search results from all blogs with any authority in all languages; Flickr - search results from everyone's photo tags only; and YouTube - search results from all videos. Keep in mind that some online publisher's also use "PlayStation 3" which isn't factored into Funaki's tagged queries. Current results are as follows:
  • Diggs: Wii's 41,446 vs. PS3's 36,478
  • Technorati: PS3's 334,285 blog entries vs. Wii's 230,803
  • Flickr: Wii's 4,865 photos vs. PS3's 3,583
  • YouTube: Wii's 8,382 videos vs. PS3's 6787
Though not a definitive buzz meter, the above totals likely indicate how much is being said online about each console. What it doesn't track, however, is the type of buzz received like positive vs. negative, and the fan factor which is sure to throw an additional wrench in the accuracy cog.
