DS Lite leading in Time's Gadget of the Year race

You cast your vote today? 'Cause DS Lite could really use your support. Or at least, that's what we thought.

The lil' guy appeared out of its league in Time's Gadget of the Year race, but [at the time of this writing] DS Lite is leading the online ballot with 44% of the vote -- 27 percentage points ahead of Apple's MacBook Pro. What looked to be a kindly nod at the Nintendo folks for shaking up the industry, has turned into a virtual landslide. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't vote -- each one counts. So gets to clickin'!

Of course it's in the lead. Not only are we some of the most vocal people on the Internet, but the DS Lite owns everything else on that list. :P

I think with this poll it can be proved not so much that DS is the best gadget, but that gamers rule the internet in all ways shapes and forms and can skew polls to their collective will whenever they want.

C'mon now gamers. I want to see those votes so ridiculously skewed that Time will be forced to take down the poll and count the votes by hand (how?) just to be sure they are reading the numbers correctly.

Hah, pete, you either sound like a Nintendo fanboy, or a sarcastic Sony one. It is impossible to tell.

Otherwise, yeah, the competition isn't so hot except for that Macbook and the Treo. But now everyone uses Blackberrys (Blackberries?) so the Treo is out. And the MacBook, while probably better, is out of that impulse buy price range for most people.

The only other ones that even come close to being just as good or better than the DS are the MacBook and the iPod (but not the crappy sports pack).

the mac people are no challenge. Time should have included blu-ray to appease the sony fanboys.

Well, all should be DSy so long as the Apple fans don't realize what's going on and push the MacBook up.

The rest of the percentages are just piteous though.

I just voted (for the DS Lite, of course).

It's now up to 64% (the Macbook Pro is still at 19%).

I wonder if they're going to ignore the results like they did when an overwhelming majority voted Mankind the man of the year eight years ago.

Well said. Although I must say I'm surprised at just how heavily the results are in the DS's favor. 60% for the DS, 25% for the MacBook, 5% or under for everything else... it's as almost as if ONLY gamers were voting.

I had a nintendo ds and I didn't like it. I also had a psp and I sold it too. The gameplay on both devices seems old now. I'd rather spend my gaming money on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.

@19: How can the gameplay seem old when you're not actually playing the games? Logic what.

Sorry people but i have to say that PSP rules the nations i love the psp and nothing will change that fact.. Nintendo boreddddddddddd, xbox 360 boreddddddddddddd role on ps3.

I introduced my gf to nintendogs on my DS lite. She enjoyed it. I followed it up by asking her if she would like a DS lite for christmas or her birthday. She promptly responded with an outstanding "No". I asked why not? She said, I'd never play it. She wants an Ipod. Apparently, top gifts for girlfriends are still jewelry and ipods.

But I agree.....competition sucks so no wonder its kickin' everyones butt.

DS lite is one device that cought my interest, especially when combined with DS-Xtreme Flash Cart with USB :)

The voip and wifi home brew apps just add tons of value to your DS :) (oh look I can use my DS to call people for free) :P

Just played a charcoal (DS) Lite that was not connected to a carousel today for the first time, and LOVED it. This thing cans my PSP by a mile... Not only that, but it's cheap! Time to trade in!

With Lumines now on Xbox Live Arcade, there is no reason at all to have a PSP.
