@ #1.

I hope they don't have the on-screen cursor. That would just be cheap... about as cheap as when I was a kid and would put the Zapper right up next to the screen.

I sucked.

Optimus, there wasn't an ESRB back then. Heh, I guess that dates me, but ratings didn't really show up until the mid 90s.

I don't want Duck Hunt unless it's the arcade version. You could actually shoot the annoying dog in that one!

I don't understand why we haven't seen light gun style games on the Wii that simply allow players to calibrate for their screen and sensor bar position by shooting the center and corners without an on screen cross-hair! It worked great for my Guncon 2!

I agree with Hox (#8), also.

And Frank Tinsley, I'm not sure if that would work. I mean, what if you moved yourself of the Remote from its initial calibration position? Hmmm...I'm really not sure.

Anyway, I really want to try out Kid Icarus and maybe give Kirby's Adventure and PilotWings a go, too...

I'm still a little iffy on the Zapper design that was shown at E3.
Considering that the analog stick will be used to control character motion I feel like I would want it to remain totally seperate (well, attached with a wire) from the gun controller. Turning, etc, will feel a lot better if you aren't turning your character with a knob on the back of your gun.

What I'd REALLY like is just a simple shell that could be used with any game that simply adds a pistol grip to the Wii-mote. MAYBE with sights along the top for sniping. But mostly just a pistol grip so that shooting in games like Red Steel felt more natural.

Kirby's Adventure for NES was a great game that a lot of people missed out on because it was a late cycle release and people had moved onto SNES.

And, with the Zapper thing, people will be inclined to point directly at the screen and think that where they aim is where its pointing; it isnt, since its all relative to the sensor bar. They would need some calibration to overcome this.

Anyways, that Zapper better come in orange.

also, Kid Icarus is a cult classic, right? and Pit is in SSBB? that's a big deal, I think

What are you talking about?

It's a shell for the Wii-mote.
The Wii-mote aims directly where you point it.
As long as the Wii-mote has been calibrated you shouldn't have to re-calibrate it for the Zapper shell.

I'm really confused about what you're talking about.

Vinsum's comment of "what's Duck Hunt" should serve as a reminder of how deep the game culture is now. Once upon a time he would have copped wedgies for asking that. But I guess soon people will be asking what's a Super Nintendo, Genesis, Mega Drive... etc!

Besides... it was 20 years ago now! TWENTY! OUCH!

Im really confused with how everyone still is commenting on Vinsum's comment. First, Re-read what he said. There was a typo in the title that said DuNk Hunt, with a N. They obvioulsy fixed it but even after people have said he was correctly the title, people still think he doens't know what Duck Hunt is.

I admit that I had to re-read what he typed to make sure there was more to it, but everyone knows duck hunt! Just silly that after 2 people already stated that he was correctly a typo, then you got people calling it a stupid question.

Also, Contra for XBox360 is the arcade version like someone stated before hand. Hopefully the NES version comes out for the Wii though.

"What are you talking about?"

If you turn the on-screen cursor off, put cross hairs on the Zapper, and use that to aim; can you say that it is 100% accurate?

And, if you can calibrate the pointer (in the same way as a mouse pointer), then it means theres some scaling of real direction to on-screen position. So, im not sure if the above paragraph is what actually is happening.

To answer the question, no. That add-on looks so clunky and unwieldly... the controller by itself seems to be a better fit for a game like Duck Hunt.

people confused about calibration?

They did it for SNES and the super scope. YOu are correct in that you can calibrate your position with an on screen software calibration. If you define the center of the box on th 1024x768 grid, and then the outer boundaries of your tv on it, then the game should be able to figure out where you are pointing without an on screen cursor.

If that didn't make any sence, or if there are tons of spelling errors, its because I"m drunk.

But the point stands. even though I'm drunk.

This will be interesting... the way the original Duck Hunt, and all NES games that used the light gun, worked was that the screen would flash all black except for a square of white on the legit targets. The gun just detected if it was pointed at the target. I wonder if they will stick with that method orif they've really re-engineered the games?

And don't expect a zapper that looks anything like a gun or anything other than a totally lame "seriously its not a gun, don't freak out soccer mom" piece of crap. What irrational stupid parents have done to gaming is a travesty.

Number 1, they are re rating games because there wasn't a rating system back in the day. And since the games are "re releasing" on Nintendo's Virtual Console, then they have to be rated, for the first time.

Wait, I thought the remote works by aiming at the sensor bar. There's no way that gun attachment will work like the light zapper. You can't aim at the screen. You'll just be controlling an onscreen crosshair based on your aiming at the sensor bar. That's no fun! I guess they could have you "aim" at the screen and map that to how it is really aimed by the sensor bar. Of course, if you do that, you couldn't move the gun from it's original position too far or you'll break the calibration. No jumping and shooting from behind the couch I guess.

@46: They don't even have to do that. Just let them release retro skins for the Wiimote, I'll be a happy slut -erm, bloke!

I've said this before elsewhere, but if Nintendo releases 10 1st party games a month, does this mean we'll probably miss out on Super Mario World, Zelda LttP, Super Mario Bros., etc. for another month while Japan's getting it now? Hope not!

And just to gratify my own lollipop idiosyncracy, GIVE US MISCHIEF MAKERS PLEASE!!!!

BakaBaka: Like I posted earlier, unless they did heavy modification of the underlying NES game (I doubt this), aiming will have nothing whatsoever to do with the sensor bar or the wiimotes accelerometers or anything. It's just a light sensor. If you point it at a patch of bright white - its a hit. If you point it at a patch of black - you miss. That simple. That's how the original zapper worked and I'd be surprised if they were able and/or willing to invest the time and effort to convert light zapper games for more integration with the wiimote.
