Readers pick best webcomic: killer DS FTW
Though not by the usual commanding margin, Penny Arcade was the favorite webcomic this week among Joystiq readers. Let's see, a plane crashes in this strip and the following one is all about the TV show LOST ... coincidence? When do we get to see a gaming parody of the Twilight Zone's "Nightmare at 20,000 feet," with a deranged Koopa (or fill in your own character here) ripping apart the wing.To those who voted for Penny Arcade: why not show your love by donating to Child's Play?
Second place, and a long overdue win, goes to RPG-TV. Third place was subsidized by Dilbert. Thanks to everyone who voted, and be sure to let us know of any gaming comics you stumble upon this week!
Here's the breakdown (uhn, uhn, the breakdown):

Obligatory PA for the win. oh well
Neoxkc @ Nov 7th 2006 11:27AM
I thought the one on the plane was funny, but not that funny.
I hated the one after that.
Oh well.

None of these cartoons were particularly funny - how about we don't glorify people for doing a crappy job with web comics by not awarding anyone when they put out garbage like this.
Honestly, these comics are on the web (and not in newspapers, etc) for a reason. They suck.

Have you read newspaper comics any time recently? These webcomics are comedic gold compared to them.
huh? @ Nov 7th 2006 11:47AM

I totally agree. They can't hold a candle to Family Circus and Funky Winkerbean. What will Little Jeffy draw next? I'm quivering in anticipation!
You're absolutely right... there's a reason Dilbert's not in newspapers.

*Clutches the silver medal*
Well clearly loads of people just plain hate webcomics but that doesn't detract from this pseudo-victory in any sense! Lame and small as it may seem this sliver of recognition has caused a bout of fist pumping and hi-fives amongst myself and James so thanks Ross for this fist pumping opportunity!
As ever, Penny Arcade FTW.

"I'm tired of these motha' f***in' DS's, on this motha' f***in' plane!!!"
Marty @ Nov 7th 2006 12:59PM
Hey, I don't claim that Family Circus is any better, but I wouldn't call any of these web comics comedic gold. Almost every one is a copy-paste job with different word balloons in each panel, or some flavor-of-the-day internet catch phrase.
Sithlet @ Nov 7th 2006 1:01PM
And considering that several webcomics have either their comics published (like Penny Arcade) or other comic works published (like Nuklear Power's Brian Clevinger), I think it's hard to say that "they suck." How many newspaper comics give back to their respective communities the way Penny Arcade has with things like PAX, Child's Play, etc etc?

My scanner broke today, but It should be replaced in time for the next G'nerds2000 comic, which is on kinda an old subject: Jack V Bully.
Keep an eye on

Glad to see that Dilbert xbox hookup made some noise. Funny stuff.
Joren @ Nov 7th 2006 1:31PM
Yes, because if you don't find something funny it must be crap and unworthy of anyone elses recognition.
PA ftw.

Gold doesn't even begin to describe it. I haven't seen something funny in the entire comics section of the newspaper in ages.

Funny comic with beautiful artwork. Could be a candidate for next week? :D
Chris Jeffery @ Nov 7th 2006 11:35PM
Gone with the Blastwave is awesome stuff. Definitely deserves a spot.

Seriously? You guys must not read Pearls Before Swine and Dilbert. (I admit, those are the only two I look forward to, as I have no Garfield in my paper). But still, at least there's some light at the end of the tunnel.

Ditto. Pearls and Dilbert rock!
But, anyways, I guess it's time to shamelessly plug my comic... again. :P
