Seriously though, unless he's tilting the controller because he thinks it affects gameplay, this is a huge rip-off of the Wii. I would know because I've been playing Excite Truck for the last two days at a Gamestop kiosk and of course, it works in exactly the same way.

LOL:
Dad = "What do you like better?"
Kid = "Thumbstick."

Man, that was pretty funny. I'm sure that there'll be plenty of PS3 owners out there that like the tilt sensitivity more than analog controls, however. It partially depends on the game itself though, as some will just work better with one setup over the other. As long as Sony encourages developers to give the gamer the option, things should be alright.

is there an option to swith between thumbstick and motion detecting?

if so, i'm sure everyone'll be just happy.
if not, well.
5-year old's across the nation will mourn for a while, and then start playing again.

(loved the parenting comment at the end.)

I admit, the Kid is very smart!

I personally feel that the whole "Motion-sensor" thing is just a fad. I don't see how Motion-Sensor controllers revolutionize games in any way, yet it is definitely a very cool feature.

Obviously, Nintendo has a lot weighing on the success of Motion-sensor game play. Without the sweet Wii-mote, the Wii is no much more then a nice looking, Slimmer, HD Gamecube!

On the other hand, Sony has an amazing system for a high price. They are using the motion sensors to make up for the fact that the XBOX 360 looks parallel to some of the key features in the PS3: Graphics, HD, and a lot more games!! Sadly, Sony removed the beloved rumble feature.

Should be an interesting battle... will Microsoft jump on the Motion-Sensor controller fad too?

The sixaxis is a ripoff of the MS SideWinder Freestyle Pro. The Wiimote is more advanced than both and will be actually useful in games. The sixaxis is a gimmick and the loss of rumble is really bad.

Anyway, I'm not interresed in the Wii (I'll get TP for the GC) and maybe I'll get a PS3 in 2+ years when the price will be lower and more Americain games are made for it. Sorry but I'm not interrested in 90% of the games made in Japan except for Capcom ones and some from Konami but I hate MGS. I'm not a big fan of RPGs, especially JRPGs but I like CRPGs like KotOR. I also like Oblivion but I don't know what kind of RPG it is really.

Back to controllers, I honestly think the one on the 360 is really the best. The only other controller I'm interrested in right now is the racing wheel by MS. I can't wait to experience GTR, Forza 2 and PGR 3 with a good wheel and force feedback. I hope that it will not be too noisy like the one from Logitech for GT4. You can't play with that wheel @ 3 a.m. when someone's sleeping in the next room.

Man, when the people at Sony see this, they'll probably have a collective coronary when the kid loudly proclaims "I like 360's!!!" Sure he's talking about the game he's playing but a kid holding that controller and having that come out of his mouth is priceless.

Don Carajo,
Zelda TP WILL come out for the GCN this early December in North America. Nintendo is known to make mistakes, but this is something they aren't going to mess up. They have confirmed over and over again, as recently as days ago, that Zelda will arrive on the Cube. Although all recent previews suggest the Wii version if you can get away with it.

All of you morons don't get it. The PS3 and Wii motion sensoring are completely different from one another. Another thing, Nintendo is NOT the first company to try a motion sensoring controller, that would be Atari. And besides, who cares who rips off who anyway? It happens all of the time with everything in this world. When someone has a good idea, others always try to copy it and implement it themselves, i.e. the Matrix bullet time.

How are you going to ask a 5 year old kid about how a game plays while he is playing. Kids his age have add and the only cure is videogames. That is like asking a kid to go on camera give him candy while trying to make him say "Happy Grandparents Day" it isn't happening and that was a terrible display of parenting

poor kid, he probably doesn't even know what a thumbstick is and his dad is asking what his impression is. Next question was "what do you think of the cell processor versus the internal dual-GH system with liquid exhaust?

@28: YES, this is a ripoff of Nintendo. Sony only implememented motion-sensing at the last minute and caught all their developers off guard. This is clearly seen from the last E3. Nintendo has been working on their wiimote for years, and collaborated with other developers during the process, like Ubisoft.

However, none of this should be a surprise anymore. We should really have gotten over it by now...

I wonder why people moan about Sony supposedly "ripping off" Nintendo's controller when I didn't see anyone crying foul about XBox's supposed "ripoff" of the PS2, DC, and N64 controllers.

I just hope they dont force people to use it.(which looks like it might be the case with the new marvel game) If I want to play a fun motion controlled game, I'll buy a Wii. If I want to play an analog controlled game, I'll play the rest.

Who cares what some spoiled 5 year old has to say about games, regardless of the system. The kid is barely old enough to wipe his ass, and everyone here is worried about what he thinks of ridge racer? Hell, all kids move the controller around like that, so you can't even tell if he even understands what he's supposed to be doing.

All the 5 year olds I've ever seen around games are like those annoying little turds that want to slap the buttons while you're playing an arcade game. Let's get some actual intelligent analysis on the system and the sixaxis instead of some toddler jibberish.

I'm very suprised at that actually. The motion-sensing did look fun if not a little tiring. (I doubt you'd be playing that any more than an hour or two)

I wish I could look half as cute as that kid while paying my videogames, maybe that way my girlfriend wouldn't bother me as much when I waste my precious time sucked in to them, watcha' callit... virtual worlds and whatnot... maybe then she'll start playing 'em and become twice as cute... balance would be restored to my life. :)

@Aux

I think you missed the audio and video of the game, where the kid's playing very well, without crashing... he did a 360, with the help of the thumbstick, did not crash, and kept playing!

I thikn you are too stupid to realize the great potential the reactions of an unbiased child (playing just for fun, not for preference) have.

I don't know what 5 year olds you have bred but the newest ones (ie, not the ones that touched your buttons, you old fart) are really good @ gaming!

There isn't a better way to avoid child mischief than to give them a next-generation gaming machine, another thing is if child mischief is an important thing or not.
