1UP's kuh-razy month long coverage of Halo 3 continues with breakdowns of the three confirmed new maps: Snowbound, High Ground, and Valhalla. Along with the new maps, we learn about some of the new environmental features.
The first of these are shield doors. Shield doors are force fields that allow players to pass through, but block bullets and other projectiles. These allow for quick escapes as well as cat-and-mouse tactics. Being able to call attention to yourself and still be completely protected opens up possibilities for traps or diversions. Also new to Halo are automated turrets. We still don't know whether or not these turrets can be programmed to take out one team or another, but either way, unmanned turrets will pose and interesting change to Halo vets. 1UP got a chance to spend some time with the Mongoose ATV as well. An interesting and funny feature, walk up to the Mongoose when someone is already aboard and you'll get this message: "Press RB to ride Brokeback." We have a feeling this text will change before release. Then again, a lot of people said the same thing about Man Cannons (which you can also read about in the article).
Other tidbits include the revelation that there will be a host of new Brute weapons, and details about the new assault rifle. Hit the read link for pictures, info, and strategic breakdowns of each map.
