"All of M$ MAIN games are pointed towards 24 year old frat college guys that liked halo..."

I could not have put it better myself.

I remember laughing at my friend when he drooled over this new game "Halo" on the xbox. "Dude, you run around and shoot real players, it's soo cool". I replied "yeah, I've been doing that for years with Quake, and with a mouse....Oh and GoldenEye blows this piece of hypeorama away"

Awww....this is very insulting, you know you don't have to go generalizing fraternities like that, not all of them are a bunch of jocks/drunks. Most people in my fraternity would rather sit down with a good RPG or action/adventure game then a shooter. Also, who the hell is 24 and still in college?

Stop the discrimination!

#47...sorry for the stereotyping? i just read an article where they asked someone from M$ what their target audience for their VIDEO GAMES were. they said "probably some GUY around the age of 24 who is most likely in a halo clan and goes online to play with his buddies from college days. probably likes technology..." and it goes on. they pegged themselves after earlier saying that Nintendo is only going for a Niche audience.

and i have a friend who is 26 in college, but in his defense, he went to one year of college and then went to work at a disability hospital and then came back to school last year i believe.

@ 47,

"Also, who the hell is 24 and still in college?"

People that don't have mommies and daddies to pay for them. How about YOU stop the discrimination and, while you're at it, stop living off your trust fund. And yes, all fraternities are full of jocks/drunks. What kind of asshole has to join a special club just to make friends? Well, that's not entirely fair, I guess some guys do it for the date-rape.

So PS3 launch sucks, we all knew it. Let's cross our fingers that Wii titles get better marks.

As did everyone else, because GoW is an amazing game, which you have not played and have no worthwhile opinion on. Therefore, shut up. Thanks.

First off, I can say that I HAVE played GoW. I think it is by far the best looking game I've ever seen. I don't think anyone that's seen it is arguing that point. It is also very fun to play. The point that most of these angry people are trying to make is that core gameplay by itself is nothing innovative. To me, it feels a lot like a 3rd-person version of Black. The point is, I feel like you could get the exact same gameplay out of the last-gen consoles, it just wouldn't be nearly as pretty.

I think IGN should have hinged their 6.0 score just on the fact that the game wasn't fun, and not on how the formula has been used before, because that can be considered a fault in nearly every game to some extent.

Oh, Blake has a wiimote up his a-hole"

Do you even read what you type? Did he ever say that it would be better suited for Wii? No. But, of course, you're too blind in your anti-Wii campaign to see anything logically.

What i find funny is people calling out joystiq for "Sony bashing". Have you been under a rock for a few years...? No one needs to bash sony because they are doing a great job of that themselves. Every where you look is negative press for Sony right now not just Joystiq. Its their own fault. Here is a little tip: If there was anything good to write about towards Sony (minus the launch of the PS3 which still might turn out to be bad press) dont you think it would be all over the web just like all the hate is? So pick your poison Sony fans its either no news or bad news.

The problem isn't that Genji's gameplay is circa 2005. The problem is that it's circa 1997. It plays more like a next-gen remake of an older game than an actual new game. And that'd be fine, if the older game could bank on nostalgia sales.

Games like Gears of War aren't a 100% new take on the FPS, but they also aren't using the Doom II model for their gameplay (get shot in the face by mindless AI). Advanced graphics CAN make a game, but it has to be a game that needs those graphics. A game like Shadow of the Colossus could never have been what it was on, say, the N64 or the PS1 because the graphics would have broken the sense of scale and realism.

However, Genji could just as easily have been, hell, it could have been a cleverly done 2D sprite game for all intents and purposes. In examples like those, the graphics exist for purposes of form rather than function. What Sony needed to do was get some games together for launch that said to the world, "This is why you need cell processors and Blu-Ray! Because you couldn't even release this game on any other system." And they didn't do that.

The Wii may not be able to live up to its hype, but at least that's largely a fan-generated hype. Nintendo didn't hire people to stand in five hour lines to play Twilight Princess. And if anything, they targetted the casual gamer more than the hardcore gamer, so Wiilove in this comunity is a function of desire more than marketing. Sony told us we were either playing a PS3 or not playing at all. They need to back that up.

MAN O MAN I LOVE A GOOD DEAL.

I just picked up Gears of War at my local Future Shop for $69.99 Cad.(regular price of games), and they also included a free copy of The Outfit. I was bying GoW anyway, but nothing like a free game to make you feel even better.

BTW/ I am sure that Genji will be fine. Hype only leads to dissapointment and there will always be some people that will hate you game (fact of life). Halo and Halo 2 where branded the same way. GoW is also not immune to this.

I agree the gameplay is underwhelming. And it takes more than graphics to be next gen. But this is a launch title.

PGR3 was highly rated despite having worse gameplay than PGR2. (No specific races so you can race the same car in every race. No "convertible" races or "sport compact" races like in PGR2).

Honestly, launch titles are almost always bad. Often you get tech demos disguised as games (Kameo). When a game that is half-baked or three-quarter baked like PGR3 or Genji, it's actually a small reason to celebrate. At least they can tide you over until the actual next-gen games come along.

You forget that they're basing how good the game is compared to Halo/Halo 2. A flooded genre that really is full of craptastic games, it's easy to see how GOW could compare good to games like it, but Genji (probably a better game than GOW) has alot of great competition out there.

No offense guys, but when was the last time you played anything that was totally unique? Everything builds on the stuff that went before. If all you add is graphics, that probably won't cut it, but if you do more, you help evolve genres to new levels. Most games that try to do really new stuff fail -- because it is really hard to come up with something totally new and then convince people to try it. The same bunch here who complain about no innovation are the same ones that keep buying sequels and shooters and the rest.

And I hate to say it, but I see precious little about Wii that is so revolutionary. The games seem to me to be the same games you have played before -- just with a different controller. That and the fact that they are bucking the graphics trend. But I fail to see why having the lowest quality graphics level is a plus other than that it keeps cost of hardware down.

First of all no I don't think Genji is a good game but there is no doubt that the score they gave is a biased one. Go look at their Phantasy Star Universe Score. It scored lower than Genji in 4 categories by 2 points and tied in gameplay and lasting appeal and got a 6.4 WTF is that? Is called In MS's pocket.

"Next-generation consoles exist to deliver game experiences the previous generation could never deliver"

Most laughable statmement ever. The X360 launch had a ton of ports and every sports game is also on the PS2 and Xbox yet they just about all rated above 8+. Were is the experience that couldn't be done on previous consoles? IGN is a joke. Were was the " we shouldn't be dishing out $300-400 for Tony Hawk and Gun ports" at launch. I guess I must be dreaming that IGN's average game score for the 360 is 8+ yet not one game does this

"Next-generation consoles exist to deliver game experiences the previous generation could never deliver"

Holy Shit! The PS3 sequel to a mediocre PS2 game gets a mediocre score?? The Gods must be mad!

Mark my words, if that score had been an 8 or higher, Mr. Snow would have passed on this story and went back to finding ways to spin MS' "buy another HDD and a memory card for more storage space, bitches" story into something equating them to maverick geniuses who will revolutionize gaming yet again.

Chris, please don't try to justify Blake's bullshit. I think that your record is respectable, posting good & bad for every system. Genji was not highly anticipated, nor is a stand out title in PS3's launch. You know, just as well as anyone here with sense knows, Blake posted this because it's bad Sony news. When the sensible people start making excuses for the actions of rampant idiots, you end up with Enron. I can't get any other gaming news sites at work, so please don't let Joystiq go in the crapper like Snow's credibility.
