1UP's got the skinny on several of
Halo 3's multiplayer maps for your starving soul:
- Snowbound - small map (4-10 players) with outdoor and indoor (tunnel system) environments; ideal for Slayer, Team Slayer, Tank Flag, Ninjaball, Oddball, and King of the Hill
- High Ground - mid-sized (6-16 players) Zanzibar-esque map with beach entry and compound; ideal for One Flag CTF, Assault, Slayer, Team Slayer, and Eliminatio
- Valhalla - mid-sized (6-16 players) spiritual successor to Blood Gulch; ideal for CTF Classic, CTF, and Team Slayer
1UP's coverage also previews new toys, including the MA5C Assault Rifle, Spike Rifle, Spike Grenade, and Spartan Laser -- oh, and the Man Cannon.
Heads!

16 players?!?! please dont tell me the entire game is limited to 16 players?
Colin @ Nov 8th 2006 4:39PM
Mortar fire... that should be fun!
Pete C @ Nov 8th 2006 4:46PM
Taking bets now...which Sony fanboy will be the first to chime in about how much Halo sucks?
Jarrod @ Nov 8th 2006 4:47PM
Eric-
Notice that they say Mid-size maps are for 6-16 players. So, in theory, large maps would be for 16-32 players, eh?
Cheers,
Jarrod

i hate people who want more players online for fps and 3rd ps. there wouldn't be any strateogy to it and you wouldn't be able to communicate with lets say 16 on 16 very well
jason cubs bear bulls rule 4life @ Nov 8th 2006 4:56PM
I know this has nothing to do with this but gear of war at the beginning of act 2 when you have to cross the rive and and the guy talks to you on the walky talkie. After that where do you go to cross the river cuz i canit figure it out

Bungie has already said that they are capping maximum players at 16. So there won't be any more than 16 players at once in a game. Now, that being said, I think 16 is PLENTY for strategy and action. There's no reason for 16 on 16 games, that's wy PDZ got so crowded online, because you had like two teams of 14 and it sucked. Halo 2 got kinda crowded and lagging with 16 people. Imagine the lag with 32 different people all playing at the same time?
Eric Von Shpeel @ Nov 8th 2006 5:10PM
what? when has Halo ever been about strategy, its pure noob run and gun stuff.. Ive had tactical matches with 32 players in PDZ and the more people has always been more fun.. this is really dissapointing and I wouldnt be suprised if the "cap" they have put on is more down to getting it to work rather than setting a sensible limit.
icelandman @ Nov 8th 2006 5:21PM
I've missed the AR, and no matter how it comes back, I'm satisfied. Oh, and a mongoose as well, should be swell. Now Bungie just needs to let us in on # of players, co-op (online please!)... and that this will be the last of the series.

Halo 1 had strategy - i've played 2v2 cap the flag hang em high for hours till someone got to 3 caps, some of the best videogaming ever. Halo 2 was all run and gun. So here's to hoping they bring back the old style gameplay and weapons.
Seifer @ Nov 8th 2006 6:14PM
As long as there is another Blood Gulch successor for the Rooster Teeth guys to play around in, I'll be happy.
rafa @ Nov 8th 2006 6:57PM
I hate when consolers make excuses. 16 players max in a game is 100% LAME. This is the next generation of gaming, with vast detailed worlds, and you can only get a paltry 8 on 8 going? Call me when there's 32 on 32 ala Battlefield 2 (PC), where I can get a small squad together and take on the enormous maps however I see fit. That's what online gaming was meant to be. Don't make excuses for the fact that console games are way behind on great online multiplayer.
Tyler @ Nov 8th 2006 7:30PM
The 16-player cap is not some technical limitation due to the 360 hardware. Bungie obviously has its reasons for this. Sure, many of us want more players online, including me. But...I'm not going to doubt and criticize Bungie's judgment. I know that whatever the number of players is going to be, it's going to be fun. That's what counts.
arch @ Nov 8th 2006 7:42PM
RAFA is you werent such a dumbass and if you werent so illiterate, you would read that bungie made that call because 8 on 8 was really pushing the clausterphobia of the maps.
fyreblazer @ Nov 8th 2006 9:12PM
It's funny that there are a few people asking for more that 16 players on the field when BTB was one of the least played matches in Halo 2. I'm comfortable with the 16 player max since most of the time 4v4 is the most fun.
MO @ Nov 8th 2006 11:43PM
Am I the only one here that read the article that thinks that the term "riding brokeback", the term they use for riding (not driving) in a vehicle, is funny? Especially since it is a gay term?
-WorldSpawn- @ Nov 9th 2006 12:53PM
CoD3 has 24 players online and it doesn't feel crowded at all. On the contrary it made me long for such epic battles in the Halo universe.
Triforceowner @ Nov 9th 2006 5:11PM
It makes getting a PS2 and waiting for a 360 price drop a whole lot harder...
Matt. T @ Nov 9th 2006 6:08PM
What about 32 player online for ultra large maps?
How about a "makeover" on Halo 2's maps and add those?
DingoDance @ Nov 16th 2006 5:13PM
Anybody else notice the game type "tank flag" under Snowbound?
Jenesuispasbavard @ Nov 17th 2006 3:51PM
Yeah, Tank Flag is Capture the Flag with an incredibly slow moving flag carrier (but with better shields or something). I think.
Franheart @ Nov 21st 2006 11:55AM
tank flag is a tank (witch carries the flag) and is crazy strong when the tank is detroyed you get the flag, 15 people verses the tank
Franheart @ Nov 28th 2006 5:15PM
OMG i think there is a new vehicle for the humans, one that flies
