I got the same story from my ebgamesin Phoenix, AZ. The shipment never left mephis fedex sorting facility, and they would be giving me a $5 discount on the unit, when I can pick it up on thursday. well, at least they covered the pre-order amount.

I had the same thing happened at my Gamestop store in St. Cloud, MN. Had to borrow my friend's car and get out of class early to get there at noon, the time they had told me yesterday the game would be in, only to hear that their shipment was still stuck in Memphis. On the plus side, I was able to play the Wii for the first time while I was there and later downloaded Contra. Should tide me over until tomorrow when they say they'll for sure have the game (hopefully).

I pre-ordered online a few days ago and sure enough it was shipped yesterday from Memphis via UPS yesterday... looks like I will get mine at about the same time as those who pre-ordered in store. For Hawaii, that is a sweet deal!

The delay in Memphis affected my EB Games too, but it was only the collectors edition that was held up. I was able to get my regular copy just fine.

Hmm.. must be an 'East of Memphis' problem. None of the big boxes had either GoW or CoD3 in (CC/BB where the ones I checked). CC was totally clueless as to when they were getting their copies. I was told by one rocket scientist standing in front of the GoW standee that 'it says Emergence Day is the 12th, I think we get it then.' My buddy tried at a different time and was told (not kidding) that they were only getting enough CEs to cover pre-orders and that the regular game wouldn't be available until Jan 2nd. This was 'the customer service rep' that told him this. He canceled his pre-order and went hunting to other stores.

Very annoying. I actually owe the guys at EB an apology, I told them the 15% off at CC was worth an extra day.. seems it might be stretching into a bit longer.

I picked my copy of GOW from BestBuy. It's unfortunate that EB/Gamestop did not get their shipments. Funny thing is I went in yesterday to the EBGames store here and the salesman was persistent in trying to make me pre-order from them. Say "It's the game of the year, man. You gotta get this pre-ordered now or you'll have to wait until the 12th" Naturally, I went in this afternoon and showed him the copy I picked up from BestBuy. Funny stuff.......

My Gamespot and Cicuit City did not get thier copies yet. Sounds like it may be a more spread issue than EB or Gamespot.

I had the Collector's Edition preordered and GameStop didn't get it in saying maybe it'll be there the morning of the 9th. Well as luck would have it, I got the LAST copy at Walmart tonight and had the pleasure of walking into the nearby GameStop and cancelling my order.

Here's the thing. If they're going to accept preorders like this, they should have an obligation to be amoung the first to get the game. They should pay for better shipping and make sure the game arrives promptly. You know there's a problem when the Walmarts and Sears of the world are getting the must have game in before you.

i stopped preordering games because of this. every time i preordered a game i would have to wait a day or two, which isnt bad. but when you are paying 65 bucks (tax included) i want it NOW. plus i enjoy the hunt for the game.
I went to best buy at 1 pm and they just barely sold out, i mean the buy was locking up the case and the last copy was just handed out. so i went to eb games and they said tomorrow. but not only did target have like 20 of them they also had a ps3 hooked up with the NBA game so today has been pretty cool.

The game has definitely not shipped to all retail outlets. I preordered a copy from Gamestop back in April or thereabouts. Yesterday (the 7th) I went in to pick it up and they said they weren't getting their shipment in until the 8th. Two Target stores got shipments but were sold out by mid-afternoon. Best Buy wasn't getting any until the 8th, either.

Today (the 8th), I also stopped into a CompUSA and a Virgin Megastore, neither of which had received any copies yet. An EB Games had tons but you were out of luck unless you'd preordered (and you can't preorder at Gamestop and pick it up at an EB, even though they are the same company).

I was starting to get worried because I didn't really believe that my local Gamestop would come through for me. It really is run very incompetently and I've actually stopped buying there because they are so lame. But lo and behold I did get the recorded message saying that I could pick up the game, and they did indeed have it when I went in.

Now I'm just waiting for my 5-year-old to go to bed so I can play it...

Oh, I just got another Gamestop message saying that "due to unforeseen shipping problems", pre-ordered copies of "Gears of War" may not be available in all stores. They recommended calling your store first before going in to pick it up.

It is shaping up to be a rather messy launch.

Bought mine at Best Buy today. Kept hitting refresh on their in-store pickup site and eventually the store close to my job showed up in bold.

Stopped by on my lunch break and picked up. Let me tell you, those last few hours at work took forever! ^_^

I'm amazed that so many people that went with Gamestop had issues. Best Buy had a ton of copies. There were three little 'towers' of games, each about 10 games high, at the reserve/returns desk.

Was at a Target in Minneapolis today. Some guy asked if they had "That Gears of War game" and the Target worker said it wasn't out until tomorrow. I questioned the guy and he told me that it was out everywhere else, but not in Target. Strange. I played some hot Motorstorm action too. Kickass graphics of course, but I felt like I had played the game before...many times before. They didn't have the damn Wii working though.

There was a shipping problem with FEDeX. Which is weird because the FeDex shipped copies of GOW to Best Buy and other store, but not to Gamestop and EB games in my area (VA Beach). This is not a stunt from Gamestop/EB games, Alot of Managers whom ive spoke with are very pissed because of the lost sales. The Shipment problem is in Memphis Tennesse as far as I know.

haha.... Memphis people can't do anything right.
naw.j/k. I love my city. but so much cargo comes in through the airport, and games are not on FedEx's major priority list. I got my pre-order GoW on Tuesday afternoon, right after class from the Germantown pkwy Gamestop, no problem whatsoever. btw, did anyone else recieve a poster with their game?

My local GameStop and EBGames said that their shipments were stuck in Memphis, same with Circuit City. Target had a bunch in stock though, luckily I was able to get one of the last ones. They sold 25 in about 2 hours.

Hm, just picked up my copy today that I've had preordered for a few months now. Very good game, but very short. I was able to beat it while only taking 1 relatively long break to eat dinner and watch LOST (note: I didn't turn off my 360 from 11:30 when I got home till 11:00 at night when I finished watching the extras that I got from the collector's edition).

But I did get the message from the automated machine and the girl at Gamestop said they had 37 reserved and only got in 30 copies. Oh well, guess it pays to get there early :D

Ok I'm a manager at a GameStop in VA. Let me set the record straight so you know what happened with this crazy day we had today. First of all Emergence Day is the Xbox Live day in which you will be able to download a lot of Gears related stuff and game with fame, and all that good stuff. That's all emergence day has ever been, but it is still really confusing. I had nearly 200 reserves on Gears of War this morning... they sent me 15... Needless to say that sucks. It's not Gamestop's fault though, it's FedEx. FedEx left the shipment of Gears of War, as well as Call of Duty 3 for 360, in Memphis, TN. The only glimmer of light in this dark dark storm is that those who reserved Gears with Gamestop/EB can still pick it up and save $5. Don't hate on Gamestop, it's not our fault.

Gamestop pre-ordered = waste of money!

I walked strait into my nearest Gamestop at my leisure (aka 9 PM on the 7th) and said gears of war... the manager didn't even get off the phone, I was done in about 5 seconds. They must have had 60 copies. Seriously, it would have been more hassle if I had pre-ordered. They do absolutely nothing to make sure you get your pre-order it seems, unless your local manager goes out of his way, as a previous poster suggested (which is unlikely at best).

At my local GameStop (Upstate NY), people were lined up yesterday to pick up their copies, only to find out that FedEx had left cases of the games on the tarmac at a Tenn. airport! The manager was on the phone w/ FedEx getting transferred around to different people to find out whether they were going to get the games to the stores on time.

Cliff and many other people involved have explained why they're using the 12th as the day a million times. Different stores in different areas stock things at different times and once it's out the gates, it's out of MS's control. The 12th was a day they figured they could reasonably expect every one to have been able to buy the game by.

What's the confusion?

My local store, Software Ect., was supposed to have them in on the 7th as well, but due to the nightly plane being about 4 hours late, every retailer in my city was held off from the game until the 8th, and even then, if you didnt pre-order or pay-in-full, you were SOL.

WOW
What did you trade in to get $5 credit? Another 360?

I never trade in games with them. It's a total rip off and then they re-sell it for $2 off the new price.

Just to drop a line, every CompUSA will be receiving their shipments tomorrow morning. I got an email from the shipping dept at about 8:30 telling me the fed ex boxes left last night. Tracking shows them on tap for morning deliveries and to the floors by noon.
