Following news of
Oblivion's delay for PlayStation 3 comes word that three more titles could miss Sony's next-gen launch:
- Sonic the Hedgehog - Sega has delayed Sonic's release to an unspecified date later this holiday. A representative stated that more time was needed to implement downloadable content.
- NBA Live '07 - EA has cancelled the PS3 version, allegedly to focus on NBA Street: Homecourt (due early next year). Others believe EA yanked the project due to the ill-reception of already-released versions.
- F.E.A.R. - Major retailers have changed the game's release date to February 6, 2007. Official confirmation is pending.
Haters may rejoice, but Sony loyalists need not fret. Losing two ports, a has-been Erinaceinae, and an awful basketball sim just sorta trims the fat, don't you think? Well, maybe not quite...

Wow, they may not be titles that are brand new except sonic but alot of people buying a ps3 never played them. It will still hurt as loosing any title is not good. With developers saying the 360 and ps3 are almost the same in graphics what reason does anyone have to get a ps3 over an xbox 360??
Kevout @ Nov 9th 2006 8:31PM
And all 4 of these were announced this week, right? Hopefully there isn't more where this came from.
But seriously Sony should just suck it up an launch in Spring,, production problems, costs too much, dwindling launch lineup,, just do it right in the spring and let Nintendo have the holidays.
Exo2 @ Nov 9th 2006 8:54PM
instead of delaying sonic for download content, why don't they take time and make it not suck.
lets just put the gun down and we go get me those fries @ Nov 9th 2006 8:40PM
yeh nice plan kevout, if everything needed to be perfect things would never launch. these titles though are all ports, except for sonic, i prefer they be not direct ports and actual games made for the ps3 from the ground up both graphically and online.
Eric Von Shpeel @ Nov 9th 2006 8:42PM
the real launch is in March, USA and Japan should have been delayed till then too, not just Europe. One thing is for sure, the PS3 Europe launch is gunna be the best launch line up ever.
Brandon @ Nov 9th 2006 8:43PM
Kevout Sony can't afford to give Microsoft that much more time in the marketplace alone. They are already giving them two christmas in Europe they can't not do that in the US.
Zing @ Nov 9th 2006 8:53PM
Everyday I try to be optimistic (sp...?) about Sony and avoid saying fanboy-ish things like '$ONY SUXXORZ' and 'WII60 FTWZ' But bad news keeps popping up about the PS3. Perhaps Sony has hyped up the PS3 too much, putting a strain on game develpoers to meet standards and launch, thus making the PS3 dig its own grave.
Ok, so maybe that won't happen, but anythings possible...
Angelo @ Nov 9th 2006 8:57PM
Does the Sonic delay affect the Xbox 360 release as well?
PC @ Nov 9th 2006 9:12PM
These games have been delayed so they arent the craptastics games that the xbox 360 is filled with... cuz once u launch there is no going back.. chrome hounds 99 nights sound familiar?
1up_clock @ Nov 9th 2006 9:13PM
"instead of delaying sonic for download content, why don't they take time and make it not suck."
After suffering through Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, and Shadow the Hedgehog, I second that motion.
If you're asking why I suffered through those games, it's because somebody's gotta warn everybody.
solomonrex @ Nov 9th 2006 9:25PM
I hardly think that EA would delay a LAUNCH title because it was crappy. That's why you do launch titles! Someone's going to buy your launch title, because there aren't any games! That's when you launch crap!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH~wipes spittle~HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
james f. @ Nov 9th 2006 10:47PM
SO what sucks worse for the sony fans? The fact that the best game(oblivion ,natch!) of the 'launch window' Is a port. Or is it that its going to be delayed?
Forest @ Nov 9th 2006 9:43PM
Sony made their console so hard to develop for and now they are finally paying the price
Hank @ Nov 9th 2006 9:47PM
This isn't a bad thing though, at least the games will eventually be coming for the PS3.
But for gamers that were depending on those launch titles that might just push them to a wii60 Christmas.
Then again, Sony could be playing possum, then again....
Rhys Corlett @ Nov 9th 2006 9:49PM
Getting a console release late isn’t that bad.
The 360 didn’t release till March and we had an awesome line-up – Oblivion from day 1.
:D
I do note the irony that the new Oblivion content, once thought to be PS3 exclusive, will arrive on the 360/PC long before the PS3 version even comes out.
JRM @ Nov 9th 2006 10:16PM
It's almost too easy to knock Sony these days...
Car2oon @ Nov 9th 2006 10:17PM
Hey! Sonic Adventure was great! And it still is!!
*Goes and plays Skychase Act 1*
Jeff @ Nov 9th 2006 10:30PM
Honestly, I hope more games get delayed. All it takes is one really good one to make a good launch. And the more bad press Sony gets, the more likely I am to get a system on launch day.
So, bring on the negativity! Let's discourage as many people as possible from buying a PS3. The price is too high and it has no games. Do me and yourselves a favor and stay home on 11/17.
RoroCo @ Nov 9th 2006 10:38PM
I love Sony fanboys... They make it seem like the delays are a good thing so that they can make the games better for the PS3 than any other system.
That is not how cross platform games work... Nor is it what delays are for.
The delays are there simply because the games are not ready for sale. This could mean the system is harder to develop for than anticipated by the producers... lack of resources for this project... changing priorities... or last minute gimmick implementation of the SIXAXIS (I say gimmick because if it is last minute then it will be a gimmick).
The delay does not mean the PS3 is getting a better game...period...
The milk man @ Nov 9th 2006 10:42PM
Jeff you are the biggest sony bot on this site. I like your post for the most part, but I get tired of all your anti 360 remarks, and all of your remarks about how you have been to japan and the 360 sucks there. But you are titled to your opinions and i respect you for that. However, as Americans I think we need to unite and start to show some american pride. That means 360 for me!!!!
Vlad @ Nov 9th 2006 11:00PM
so all 3 people actually one at launch will be upset. the rest of the 300 million of us will be ok till then. I'm not getting 'till next year anyway.
Jeff @ Nov 9th 2006 11:01PM
"However, as Americans I think we need to unite and start to show some american pride."
Great - give me something to be proud of and I'm right there with you. I see no reason to blindly swear allegiance to anything because it comes from a particular chunk of land. (And you do realize Xbox 360's are not made in the USA, don't you? Support cheap Malaysian and Mexican labor!)
As for being a "Sony bot", yeah, I was also accused of that when I said the PS2 was going to sell 100 million units 6 years ago. Guess what happened. Some of us just have the gift of insight, I guess. And some just can't see beyond today.
"That means 360 for me!!!!"
Yay, another one staying home on 11/17. Any other takers? Let's make it a mantra: just stay home. Just stay home. Just stay home! After all, isn't that what all the Sony negativity on this site is designed to do? Why not just be honest and say it outright? Seriously, it'll really help a lot of us out. Don't those of you who actually want this system wish all the Ebayers and fence-sitters would just clear out of the way once and for all?
btw, does James Mielke know you've stolen his nickname?
The milk man @ Nov 9th 2006 11:17PM
Sorry to burst your bubble, but I am not staying at home. I already have a preorder, and I am looking forward to ripping off some idiot off of ebay, but thats another story. The real story is how you can swear blind allegience to a company that craps on the consumer with such a high price tag, lies constantly(spring launch, world wide launch), and only cares about pushing blu ray down are throats.
I am not an idiot and i realize that the only reason ms did not include hddvd was so that it could launch early, but come on man. Don't let Sony become more of a monster then it already has become.
jaysins @ Nov 10th 2006 12:49AM
I played the sonic demo and PS3 fans are not missing anything on that for sure. I even am a fan of the dreamcast version. F.E.A.R is great on the 360 so that is a bummer but you could always just get a xbox instead :)
DA @ Nov 15th 2006 1:11AM
@ The milk man - "The real story is how you can swear blind allegience to a company that craps on the consumer with such a high price tag, lies constantly"
For a minute there I thought you were talking about Micro$oft. LOL
ill trooper @ Nov 10th 2006 3:21AM
I also played the Sonic game on the PS3 and have to agree, it might be better left on permanent 'hiatus.' It's not up to par with the other games in the pipeline.
I also have to side with Jeff on the Ebay issue - making profit is cool, but flaunting how you are buying one to put it on Ebay? You sound like a sad soul and I wonder if half the people here on Joystiq who say that will really have their $600 ready next week, or if they'll let their pre-order slide.
I think it's very likely the first 1000 or so auctions on Ebay will bring $1000-$2500 prices in... But beyond that, I think it's gonna level off at around 700-800 bucks. It's just not that different from the 360 yet, so gamers will wait until they can buy it at retail. And Blu-Ray drives aren't more than $1000, so videophiles people buying the PS3 for Blue-Ray will stop before that.
You might be in for a long winter of keeping and owning that PS3 you claim to have bought to hock to some 'idiot.'
Don't think about that last part when you look in the mirror, is all I'm saying.
Pixelantes Anonymous @ Nov 10th 2006 8:42AM
"sorta trims the fat"
I think it's more like cutting into the bone already. The launch lineup for the PS3 is looking REALLY bad.
The milk man @ Nov 10th 2006 8:31AM
You are missing the point, Ill Trooper. I don't have to make a huge profit to be happy. Any profit is good. and as for you agreeing with Jeff, well that just doesn't surprise me. I have read a lot of your post and your seem unbiased for the most part, but if it came down to it I think you favor sony a little bit more. However you did give me a fruit for thought with the whole not that different part. It was a good point, but Sony fans are blind to that and they th ink that the ps3 really is a supercomputer. With MS it is what it is. A huge company trying to monopolize the living room, and that's fine with me because they give me choice. I can't stand The fact that Sony only cares about force feeding consumers blue ray.
Keysersoze @ Nov 10th 2006 9:36AM
"With MS it is what it is. A huge company trying to monopolize the living room, and that's fine with me because they give me choice."
How are you getting a choice if MS is trying to monopolize the gaming industry, as it did for OS? I don't understand that statement, I would rather have competition between companies.
Dre @ Nov 10th 2006 9:59AM
Sony's launch is looking worst by the minute. By the way, EA's NBA Live '07 is cancelled, not delayed. I have to agree with everyone else, the real launch is in March 2007. Right now, if you are getting a PS3 you are only getting ports of other games. The Wii's launch is looking better than this overexpensive machine.
Why not just wait until they can get it right. $700 plus few exclusives = poor gamers with little to play with and no money left over.
hohoho @ Nov 10th 2006 11:00AM
the reason for the delay?
Sony didn't send out in time how to charge $$$ for a horse armour for the launch!
Steve @ Nov 10th 2006 12:22PM
"The 360 didn’t release till March and we had an awesome line-up – Oblivion from day 1."
Ummmm, the 360 launched November 22nd of last year.
goosedude @ Nov 10th 2006 1:38PM
WORST CONSOLE LAUNCH....EVER!!!
What reason is there to buy a PS3 at launch....RESISTANCE??? Sorry....it's no HALO.
Yes I pre-ordered a PS3...not to sell on Ebay....but my prediction of a similar launch as the PSP is coming to pass....Keeping my fingers crossed that they aren't rushing the launch consoles from the factories too fast and that it'll blow up my house (GET THAT WARRANTY)
Good thing the PS3 Manual was posted on the web.....as it seems more and more likely that the XMB is the only thing we will be playing with on the PS3.
All the games I was expecting at launch (Warhawk, Motorstorm, TEKKEN 6).....have been delayed.
Fortunately the WII launch is looking very well planned......and the 360 just keeps getting better and better. Yes....GEARS OF WAR is that good.
Hank @ Nov 10th 2006 2:59PM
On 11-17-06 we all might just be staying home, with only so many PS3's available, I might as well wait to see if one of my friends were able to get one :(
xM1LkMaNx @ Nov 10th 2006 9:59PM
Meh. I have a PS2 and Xbox, I'm going to be getting a 360, and when the PS3 sells for under $400 bucks for the premuim, Then I'll think about it. Honestly though, $600 for a game system, I'll go buy a 360 and play GoW now.
