Comparing next week's PS3 and Wii launches

So the same line of thought goes for the PSP? That console gaming can't work on a portable because of high price, shitty battery life, no third party support, shitty design, easily hackable, dead UMD format, etc?

So portable games are shallow? Lets see... *fumbles through my portable game collection....*

Golden Sun 1 & 2 - both easily dozen of hours of gameplay.
FFTA - See above.
FFI, II, III, IV, V. - See above.
Contact - Rather short but does thing with the story not seen before.
Animal Crossing DS - Unlimted hours of gameplay. At this point this game as sold so much I doubt any PS3 game will be able to match it.
Plus dozens of other deep and engrossing portable games.

Of course there are pick up and play games as well. Lumines, Tetris, Meteos, etc. But your bias outlook only focuses on one part of a much larger picture.

While this gen will likely end up a three way tie if certain things break nintendo's way they could easily end up the big winner as they don't directly compete with the others. Sony has really shot themselves in the foot with this launch with only one real must have title they aren't offering anything that can't be had on the 360 for a much lower price. Plus with most developers opting for multiplatform releases that isn't going to change until sony cuts its price considerably and ASAP and with them already losing money on the console thats not possible for at least 2 years. If nintendo can meet its sales goals and deliver some hot titles they could easily be tied or even ahead of the 360 by next summer. With such an installed user base it will be impossible for devs to ignore and more games will be released for the system. By this time next year sony could find itself in a very deep hole that it dug for itself with microsoft(halo 3) and nintendo (possible new zelda? this one will have been complete 2 years by then) piling on the dirt.

Sony's PS3 controller is still a Super Nes pad with dual analog sticks (thanks to Nintendo) and no rumble because they stole that too and a half assed retarded tacked on tilt motion contol functionality (thanks to Nintendo)! So you sony fanboys are the most unoriginal gamers on the planet because you support a company that steals all of their ideas from Nintendo but why should you guys care right? Your company is COOL!!!!

Am I the only one who remembers the SNES controller? And am I the only one who has noticed that Playstation controllers have been SNES controllers + an extra set of triggers + analog sticks + rumble - rumble + motion sensing? We are still talking the basic SNES controller (which to me was always more comfortable than the Dual Shock) + a few buttons/sticks + motion sensing(nintendo knock off just like the original controller)?

How is the SIXAXIS even in this argument at any point? Good ol' second run controller (1st run = boomerang) that's just like the old one!

Oh hey, the three comments I didn't read were the last three and there is someone else mentioning the SNES controller, thank god!

Heh heh, oh t-bag, you so funny. Losing argument after argument then running away. People like you are the reason i read internet message boards. Just so darn entertaining.

Anyways, to recap, i am 22. I work. I am single at the moment, having just gotten out of a long term relationship. I consider myself to be relatively mature. I'm a casual gamer, but occasionally indulge in a few deeper games (DQ8). I am far from a 'manchild'.

And i'm buying the wii. Better price, graphics that arent as good as PS3, but that doesnt really bother me, i played wii twighlight princess the other day at an event at my local EB and it was good fun, no different to any other control mechanism, you just move your wrist instead of just your thumb. So its like haveing additional buttons.

And as for the kiddie games, well hey, they'll be fun too. Mario Kart DS, kiddie game. AWESOME fun. Ocarina of time (though i dont really think it's that kiddie myself) is also great fun. What else we got, Smash Bros on GC and 64, great party games.

Oh, and on the topic of party games, if i brought out the wii with wario smooth moves at a party, or if i brought out a ps3 with whatever multiplayer they've got going on, i know which one everyone is going to get into. Play singstar at parties, play guitar hero at parties, and i'm pretty sure that there will be heaps of this particular style of game on the wii.

I've rambled and for that i apologise. Working night shift. But for me, and my friends, be they gamers or non gamers, the wii is the better choice for us.

That being said, I'll buy a ps3 one day. Probably around the time the eight generation comes around.

I think Nintendo and Sony both made great consoles. I'd prefer the Wii just because it's cheap and I like the new gameplay. I also think that without Nintendo the next-gen consoles would become like normal computers. You can browse on your playstation 3 with mouse and keyboard, but why would you if you've got a computer standing next to your console? I like the Wii and I think that without the new innovative way of Nintendo the gamingconsole would once die. The computer is better in many ways, but I still want a console to play games on. The rest of what you get with a console is nice, but irrelevant. I'm sounding like a Nintendofanboy I guess, but I repeat: Sony has made a great console again. This was all I had to say.

This really isn't that big a deal. They are both good systems and are both next gen consoles. They are both totally different so it's hard to make any fair comparisons

PS3 - Better Graphics, Blue ray, DVD compatability, backwards compatability

Wii- New controller, virtual console, backwards compatability, cheaper

Bad points

PS3- NOT revolutionary controller. Same old thing really- no where near to the capabilities to the Wii.

Wii - Graphics not up to PS3's standards.

I think the Wii will be more successful than you think. Not saying that the PS3 is gonna crash and burn, but I do think that Nintendo will rely on a few strong games to get them through. I'm sure the PS3 library will still be almost as big as the PS2, but I do think that Nintendo will rise out from the previous sales figures.

I think it does suck alot that the graphics on the Wii are not up there with Xbox and PS, but I want to play games differently rather than with the same ways i have been playing games all my life. Graphics are not all what its about. I still find alot of the older games so much better than alot of the ones out today.

So if you want to get next gen looks - go for the PS.

If you want next gen gameplay- go for Wii.

PS3 is not a updated ps1. PS3 had 3 times the power, blue-ray technology, a real online network, diffrent controller. Totally diffrent from Gamecube and Wii. For nintendo fans, Wii is no upgrade to Gamecube its just a gamecube with new controller. Nintendo fans please don't try to state facts when you have none. Wii is crap. The new Zelda looks like garbage-sorry to say. It looks same as original 64 Zelda game. They call game Legend of Zelda and Zelda is hardly in the game. All Link does is play with animals instead hooking with Zelda. What a poor fictional character.

Ok I'm getting a Wii but I do see the pros of getting a PS3 and I can respect those who buy it but when you say that the PS3 isn't an updated PS1 that just depends on the wording so you should understand it wouldn't be numbered if it weren't an update or upgrade or whatever you want to call it, basically it's a console that is made by the same people as the last one but has better graphics or whatever other features that are different from the last so no reason for anyone to go up in arms about that. Then you complain about legend of Zelda and you argue that the graphics are like the 64 (a lie) but you're only other argument about how bad the game is (which you probably haven't played otherwise you would have commented on the controls or something) is that Zelda is hardly in it and that's stupid? Meanwhile the game title has exhisted since the 80's and you only choose now to state that now. How dumb are you? Oh no Zelda is barely in the game, which you don't know as a fact is something you complain about I thought you said that only those who like the Wii were stupid enough to state facts when theyhave none oh yes you did "Nintendo fans please don't try to state facts when you have none." yay hypocritical. Wii- should have classic controller and wii mote both compatible for all games

T-bag, you are funny. In case nobody elso noticed, close to nobody was on T-Bag's side, while there were like 20 people that occasionally chimed in to support the Wii, which i support as well.

Sometimes T-Bag made valid points, like the fact that the PS3 has uber-graphics and works much faster, but since when did that make a good game? honestly, if you look at the graphics of games, yeah, they help, but their isn't a definite ratio of graphics to quality of game.

Look at the handhelds showdown between the PSP and DS. PSP = amazing graphics, DS = improved from the GBA, but nuthin special. the results? DS kicked ass. Because it's cheaper, has some real good games (can you say 'metroid'?), and the WiFi is sooo easy. all you need is a wireless internet, and youve got WiFi connection. Yeah, maybe alot of DS games totally sucked (Ridge Racers, PGA golf tour, Yoshi touched), but hey, obviousl the good games were good enough to kick some sony butt.

Anyway, back to the Wii. I noticed how T-Bag is ALL worked up about the AMAZING PS3 controller.

Where do u think they got the idea? Sony has been copying Nintendo from the beginning. N64? first with 3D graphics, introduced the control stick for sensitive movement. PS1? "Hey, let's put TWO control sticks on ours!" Gamecube? im dissapointed in nintendo. the GCN had more potential. PS2? PS1 with better graphics. THAT IS IT. Now, to the new systems.

Wii? Motion sensitivity totally makes FPS titles easier and more fun to play. Honestly, ive seen people playing James Bond-Nightfire and other FPS titles for the PS2, and it takes them like almost an entire second to turn around. By that time their brains are blown out. On the Wii, you whip the controller off-screen, your character turns REALLY fast, and then you simply return the Wiimote to pointing at the screen, you aim at the dude, pull the trigger, and BAM! the guy is dead.

T-Bag did not make a point i have heard PS and X-Box freaks make, which i complement him for. Some people say the Wii sucks because it does't have enough buttons. ok, maybe they havent actually looked at the controller(s) themselves. The Wiimote has 2 buttons plus a control pad for in-game play, and the nunchuck has 2 more. As for other options, motions replace buttons! In Metroid Prime 3-Corruption (great title. a must-get for all Wii owners) you actually move the Wiimote forward, and Samus's hand follw your movement you use this to fire the grapple beam, pull switches, not to mention aim (of course). So, what does the PS3 have? GRAPHICS, BETTER LIKE MEGS AND BYTES AND....COMPUTER STUFF. THAT'S IT.

hm....trying to sound tough with the keyboard is about as retarded as running in the special olympics...so you guys should just shut it....all the systems this time bring i different element to the virtual ''table'' and they will all contribute to great gaming. why do we all have to yell at eachother?

what has the PS3 made that is so "revolutionary?" o ya they put a blu-ray into their system... it's not like they invented blu-ray!!! The only inovation the ps3 has is the graphics. which is only slightly above the xbox 360! and that's just what they say. They just copy and buy everything. They put a sixaxis sensor in the controller that can only sense things left and right, up and down. BIG DEAL! let's look at the wii shall we? The COMPLETE motion sensitive controllers. the awesome design of the controllers. The size of the system (when i think about it... the ps3 won't even fit on my shelf!) I dunno... But the way I see it... The PS3 is just a major company with a lot of money.

I guess it doesn't matter... they both are reliable and capable systems. but I am investing in the wii more just based on cost!

By the way... How much does PS3 games cost... $60, $70

If the wii's controller is a gimmick. then the ps3's graphics are a gimmick. which gimmick is more fun? more immersive? Which one is better for parties? for First person shooters?
