The extra map for the people who Pre-order is a smooth marketing move.

Kudos to Capcom for following Bungie's model. They will release an additional map that appears to cost $ initially, but will eventually be free to everyone. I think that's a great move - it reinvigorates the game after the initial buzz has faded.

People who pony up for the collector's edition of the game will likewise be given access to a second bonus map which won't be released until summer of 2007 as a free download.

As much as I love Gears, if I compare is to how much I enjoyed Lost Planet back during E3, Lost Planet THEN edges out Gears now for me.

(Might be all that snow though, being Canadian and all.)

"Finally" released the demo?

I don't really understand where the animosity is towards Capcom on this. I'm sure developing an online demo isn't the easiest of processes and to get two demos for the same game is a pretty heavy work load.

If you want to attack Capcom for the pre-order deal, that's your own problem. Overall, as pre-orders go, this looks like a pretty good set up for such a highly anticipated title.

Awesome! I'm psyched to play some multiplayer LP (I missed my opportunity at trade shows). The real question is will I be able to tear myself away from Gears of War.
Honestly, I haven't had this much fun playing a game in quite a while.

I think the whole bonus map idea is something that definitely makes a collector's edition worth while. In reality, who gives a crap about a metal tin (though I buy every one that comes out)? Extra content definitely makes the limited or collector's editions a solid purchase, more so than a tin IMO.

Capcom's gonna get my money for the Collector's Edition on this one because they've provided two demos so far in advance of the game's release and those demos have been EXCELLENT.

Sure I'd be happier if I could get Lost Planet before the year's over, but it's gonna take me a few months of constant Gears of War action to burn myself out so I figure this is a smart market placement move, considering the sort of similar action of the games (Lost Planet ain't no Pop'n'stoper of course).

I think you guys should make a seperate editorial just on the increase of special edition games. Are they generally worth the $10 (or in Halo 3 $40)extra? How do they sell compared to the regular edition? Do they decieve customers into thinking certain games (PDZ, Splinter Cell:DA, Mark Ecko) are bigger releases then they really are? This is something that has grown dramatically in the past few years, and I think it's a very important issue for gamers.

To the whole "in front of Casino Royale" part:

When I saw Borat, the Mad World GoW trailer played about 10 minutes before the previews and got really positive response.
