I'm just going to say what everybody else is saying.
you have no idea what you are talking about you compare games that are totally different and obviously missed what Zelda is all about and should never bother reviewing a Wii game ever again.

hey there's always Kingdom Hearts if you want more colors and better graphx.i loved them.maybe we should compare KH and ninja gaiden and dragon quest and god of war and other great looking last gen games to the new gen stuff to see where we stand. and remember pgr3 didnt look as good as gran turismo 4(which had 1080i back in ps2)i just say we gotta give more time to these systems to put out stuff that utilizes the meaty part of their potential.call of dury was the best game 360 had for months and compared to the new one or resistance it falls in the graphz level(altho i loved it) but we can't say it came close to gears of war.GoW looked awesome, but that's a year later by developers who used the 360 to a higher potential(like oblivion which i have but barely play...who can say it looks like the crap that came out on xbox360 release window? no one , cos bethesda used the potential of the system) so i say hold off on holding funerals fir any of these systems.they all will have great stuff down the line(360 already does) and remember each system tailors to a different kind of gamer.street fighter fans can't see the beauty of final fantasy , and FF ppl dont always see the fun of SF games.diff strokes for diff folks. gamecube was a fun party system,ps2 was an all arounder, xbox was a more mature oriented pc derived game machine.let's see the good in each one.ok?"better" is relative and based on opinion.

This was the best Zelda yet. I played it, beat it, and played it some more. Cube Graphics? yeah sure... if you consider they switched it for the Wii Well over a year ago. More than enough time to spice up the graphics far beyond what the Cube is able. This game is beautiful and if you cant see that past all the pixels, you shouldnt even be reviewing games. Graphics were never an issue back on the old systems. Sure make it look pretty but if the game sucks because they spent too much time on the visuals, then its not worth anyones time. Nintendo doesnt need HD and super ultra visual display modes to make good games.

Why can't you review the games from a Wii standpoint? You act like Nintendo is trying to compete with the PS3. And yes we already know the Wii does not have next gen quality graphics, at least this game has a good art style. I personally think this game is beautiful, but you can keep thinking what you are thinking.

"Graphics do matter so stop hating on joystiq. The better the graphics the more it gets you into the story and game. Imagine the first time you played the first resident evil. now imagine if you played it with 360 type graphics.your telling me it wouldnt scare you that much more because better picture quality? I am not saying a wii game cannot be good and fun, but it will not immerse you into the game world as a 360 title would."

Did you miss when they remade Resident Evil for GC with updated graphics and it sucked? Yes it was slightly scarier, but that was because of the addition of running zombies and had nothing to do with graphics. How about Resident Evil 4? Really nice graphics but not the least bit scary.

Why do xbox and ps fans always say Wii has poor graphics capabilities? and even go further to suggest that a zelda game made for gamecube that was ported to Wii was dumbed down so that it would work on the wii's so-called "inferior graphics capabilities" ??

How about no, the wii is a supurb system capable of incredible graphics rendering and maybe, just maybe, this game and others out for the system do not use the graphics power that is there..!?

Also,
it's clear you don't like the art direction (your ranting about the colors). I, and others i'm sure, think it looks great. I'm glad every game doesn't look the same and that there are unique titles out there, personally.

it should be pointed out as well how silly this is... a review that starts off talking about a game's color pallette!?? weak.

It's true graphics are important and they must be at least halfway decent for a game to be playable, but things such as storyline and gameplay matter just as much. All factors of a video game are equally important, it just isn't much of a video game if it lacks in one area but is excellent in another.

I think I might be alone in this but I thought that this post was very valid. To some extremely vain people, the graphics do make all the difference, and knowing that the colors are mostly brown and the signs are illegible from a distance disgust them to no end. Comparing this to Oblivion was also ok. Both are games. One has legible signs and the other has some really awesome items, an amazing story, and good graphics for the Gamecube. I chose to go with Zelda

Wii Zelda is the best game ever and the winner of 2006, but there a downside that it is sadly not 'The biggest game' as it had been written on the back cover.

PS3 is too busy losing against the XBOX! that Wii primely sitting comfortably in exquisitely!.

OMGZ! OCH YE WII BONEY SONY!.

All of you are undisputed Nintendo fanboys that are crying over one person's article listing what he dislikes about TP. Once you ridicule opinion and pass your own off as fact, you are ignorant and should truly realize that not everybody will share your own view on a matter.

The low cost, and overall simplicity (wow, less buttons!) is what ultimately will attract millions that were previously unknown to the face of gaming (such as your average 40-year old dad, teacher, etc).

This post epitomizes what is wrong with too many blogs right now. The readership is limited so they resort to moderately dishonest and intentionally deceiving or inflammatory headlines rather than rely on solid content.

To a lesser extent, this is what Gizmodo.com did when they announced the release of the iPhone through intentional deceit. Ten points from Slytherin, Joystiq, for violating one of the basic tenets of reporting: Writing a headline that does not accurately reflect the content of the article.

This is why you are third on my list, behind Kotaku and 1up.

After playing the game I can say this is TOTAL BS, the color palette is NOT mainly brown, the forests and shit are green, hyrule field is mostly green, and the temples all have different colors.

About the signs, I read a sign maybe 3 times in the whole game so far, there are almost none in the game and those that ARE there are pretty useless, so that whole argument is a NON-ISSUE, well I'm pretty late with commenting but yeah whatever.

Oh and to add to that, some signs contain so much text that they would require a 5m by 10m billboard so you could read them from a distance.

Hmn. FYI Vlad, the engine that couldn't bull is so ass-backwards. TP is a port of a GC game. Nothing more, nothing less. As far as whether or not that's a good thing, well, your mileage may vary.

The point here is that the engine's deficiencies, real or percieved, are not the fault of the Wii hardware. Had the game been made for the console from the ground up, it's arguable that it may very well have ended up looking better. Of course that's entirely dependant on whether or not the developers bothered to utilize the hardware to any extent, something that seems to be beyond just about everyone making Wii games. Which is another discussion entirely.

I'm rather taken aback by how much like flame-bait this write-up came across as. It's as if you typed it up, slavering over the idea that you'd get tons of attention for it, and didn't care whether or not it was negative, or that your arguments themselves would ultimately prove to fall flat themselves.

You guys aren't professionals by any stretch of the imagination, but one would like to think that in the interest of gaining respect and credibility for oneselves, you would be less inclined to write up asinine articles such as this. You don't have to like the game, noone in their right mind would suggest it, but Vlad, if you're going to pick it apart, try and be smart about it.

@465

"Once you ridicule opinion and pass your own off as fact, you are ignorant and should truly realize that not everybody will share your own view on a matter."

Disregarding that this is essentially what Vlad did (passing opinon off as fact, that is), once you disregard everyone's counter-arguments in such a manner, you make yourself look like an overly self-important jackass.

Of course this article ended up with it's fair share of detractors who cried foul solely because they percieved it as a slight upon their beloved Nintendo, but just as many approached it based on the merits of the article, or lack thereof as the case may be. They deserve more credit than you're giving them.

The opinoin part of the article stopped at what Vlad said about the signs. No, much of the article was a thinly vieled attempt to gain hits by trolling. He didn't care how he got them. Negative attention is often just as good as positive attention, and sometimes way easier to get.

This whole "I'm going to do something different just for the sake of doing it" BS is ludicrous. Journalists, even amatures such as the ones who run these overexposed enthusiast sites, think that by going against the grain, they'll gain more noteriety. They'll slam something that's well liked, because it's unexpected. Forget one's own opinion factoring into things here, because there were about a million other ways for Vlad to get across that the new Zelda wasn't doing it for him, without resorting to complete ass-hattery to do it. Oh, he's so individual now. Right. Individual in his disdain for the color brown? Individual in that he pines for the days in which every sign in every game to come out will be perfectly legible, regardless of whether or not it has any real effect on immersion? Yeah, that makes him a rebel!

Unfortunately, this attitude does more to damage one's credibility than anything else. When you're trying to seperate yourself from countless other enthusiast blogs, making yourself look like a total ass just for the sake of being different really isn't a smart idea.

Vlad could've saved himself and Joystiq alot of trouble by simply stating why the new Zelda game just didn't appeal to him, without bitching about completely arbitrary things, and outright getting a couple of facts completely wrong. For example, a simple fact check would've illuminated the fact that the game is a GC port, and not optomized to run on the Wii beyond 16:9 support. The graphics are exactly the same as on the GC, so to suggest that they're lacking because of the hardware was just one of the many reasons why he looks like a douche.

Again, he doesn't have to like a game, and he's certainly entitled to his opinions. Had that been all the article was comprised of, maybe people with basic common sense wouldn't have been put off by it.
