Ahh, damnit, Vlad! I thought you got fired a long time ago?? Hmm...I guess I shouldn't've gotten my
hopes up.
Hooray, bigotry!

I know what you're thinking, Vlad, I know..."It's my opinion, man, you don't have to value it one way or another!" And that's fine. After all, one mans trash is another mans...erm...retarded opinion, I suppose.

I think someone said it best earlier, when they said "Go VC, you make the internet suck just that much more."

Thank you.

Hey, Nintendo is what started it all, without the N64, no one would have probably even thought of the joystick. And isn't that what the story is about? Ganon, a cold hard bitch taking over Hyrule? It's like Hyrule when you first pick up the master sword in the N64. I'm great, the Wii is great.

Wonderful observations, except they're all wrong. First, no one will give credence to a graphics whore who loved Oblivion to the exclusion of other games without graphical prowess. Give me a break. The Gamecube is a console and not an all-in-one computer like the other two systems. It's made for pure entertainment rather than a test of the latest hardware. It's also meant to be accessible to the masses. Not just by the height of its capabilities but by its price. Nintendo knew what it was doing and moreover the Zelda team played its cards right.
I play Ocarina of Time, Morrowind (much better than Oblivion, by the way), and other games and I can't read any signs at all. This man is grasping at straws to justify a moot argument, a sad rambling about the shortcomings of his own taste. A reviewer should write something that can be palated by all, or at least the majority, not by a niche (which, by the way, has bad taste).
In other words: props on the rebuttal, Joystiq. That's why I come here for my news.

While its not a big deal, I sort of agree with the A button issue.

Just because it is something that has been in the series to date doesn't mean it can't change when technology advances enough for it to be done better.

And even if they were to make the signs eligible because of some different in world language they could have it so you point the Wii cursor over the sign and a box pops up with the correct text.

Something like that wouldn't take you out of the game and would use the technology in the Wii nicely.

Huh... I'd like to remind you that many signs in Wind Waker were readable. I haven't played Twilight Princess, so I'm not sure if that's still the case, but I'd think so. Those seemingly meaningless characters actually create (Japanese) words. The Japanese manuals have conversion tables for those characters... Yes, some are just rubbish, but I fail to see how your proposed solution is any better. Most of the ones which are just rubbish are small signs(or paper) with large amounts of text. In order to read them, in a high resolution game, you'd need to press a button to switch to a first person mode, and then keep the camera focused on that paper. After finishing reading, you'd need to go back to the third person view again. Considering that, I don't see how pressing a button is a slower, complicated action.

BTW, that screenshot in the article is old... What is the point of using it?

hmm... let me think... Zelda TP is crap because of non-english signs and "brown" enviroment. Windwaker had the best graphic ever??? Oh, yeah TP would look 100times better with "cel-shaded art style ", because it fits the story sooo well.
Oblivion isn't cel-shaded and hasn't always beautiful colours. Hmm.. I'm from Germany and our version of Oblivion has english signs. Great, for all the people who don't understand english it's perfect, isn't it?
It's true that the Wii hasn't suberb graphics, but Nintendo goes it's one way. Sony had the great idea with its new controller after Nintendo presented the Wii-controller...
And the great argument with the difficultness of a puzzle because the baaad water graphics. Tell me one game with great graphics like the X-Box360 or PS3 that has such puzzles. The quests of Oblivions were so simple, the only diffulty were the fights... mainly the fight with all the wierd bugs and errors.

THE REASON NINTENDO MADE A GAMECUBE WITH AN REMOTE, IS NOT AN INNOVATION THING. ITS AN ECONOMIC DECISION. THEY WILL BE MAKING MONYEY ON EVERY CONSOLE SOLD, AND WILL HAVE MUCH TO PUT OUT FOR THEIR NEXT ONE.

now enough of this flawed g"ameplay!!1111111111!!! better than graphics" garbage. you godamned people should know that graphics helps a crap load more than jutst gameplay alone. you think gears of war would have been as fun on a last gen console? it would have scored a 6 and not a 10.

Looking past the fact that posts like this are easy "fish in a barrel" ways to generate hits on your website, I think Vlad probably makes some valid points about the graphics being a unimpressive when compared to the current available titles on the market.

Having said that, I'm not sure his fingers shouldn't be broken for the following line:
"(It's disappointing the Nintendo backed off of the cel-shaded art style that made The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker so fantastic.)"

Are you kidding me? The main reason that Zelda TP's graphics will not be an issue with fans is that it IS NOT continuing this unfortunate diversion in style that was that Wind Waker sugar coated drivel. After that we'll take anything that shows is they are going back to the more traditional (and superior) style that they applied in LoZ:OoT

That is the most shameful thing I've read on Joystick ever. Tsk tsk.

I just wanted to make a comment on how you don't like the artistic filter of Twilight Princess. As we progress into the future of gaming you will see more and more games with artistic filters that were not possible on previous consoles. Gears of War was released this month, and it features a gray artistic filter. Grey and brown artistic filters are often used in more mature games, why? They attract more people. The other side of this is games like Viva Pinata and Wind Waker. They use multi colored environments to show cartoon like art worlds. Okami uses a more adept cell shading. So the next time you say a game falls short, because it uses an artistic filter, remember that these are the future of gaming and you're going to be stuck with it or a cartoon world.

Vlad,
im sure 1/2 of the current joystiq readers (during this very pre-wii launch) are nintendo fanboys, your basically saying that they suck and they now have no super epic launch title.

LEARN TO GIVE THE AUDIENCE WHAT THEY WANT, This article only brings down nintendo fans and boosts ps3/360 fans, "haha, your game doesnt have graphics OR gameplay"
therefore, you reduce total surplus by 1 amount of fanboys. By laws of economics, this would be BAD.
would it have killed you to not write this article?

And how could you dis the controls, I always wanted to swing the sword. It was because of this game I started playing older zelda games and I love them all ^.^

I think your just looking to get attention. You cant admit you like this game so much you have to write bad stuff about it to get people to come here. And don't think people agree with you, they just support your article cause you wrote it.

If I were to critize the Wii version of Zelda, I would ask the following questions:

Why didn't they enhance graphics over GC-version and what is this whole business with mirrored dungeon maps?

Where's the bonus content and Wii-specific features?

Why can't I choose to between classic and new control scheme?

Etc...

But choices of colors or signs where you have to get close and press a button to read???

About the brown color: I see a hell of a lot of green in all the movies available. There's a lot of reds and orange and even blues in the Goron mines. The Twilight Realm looks to be filled with yellow and orange.

Looks like someone's just trolling.

As for the signs. You'd not be able to read them even if they were pixel perfect in 1080p.

That review is missing context. It's more like nitpicking on the gaps you would find in any game, and narrowly focussing on them from general perspective just for the sake of critical writing. Describing the game "as is" in the context of its gaming would have been more desirable.

Nice try, but more perceptive of us see through this. Incidentally, did you know they forgot to implement toilets in this Zelda installment?

I just stumbled upon this website, but if this is the way games are critiqued, I'll not be coming back.

First of all, the signs are in Hyrulian and need to be translated for Japanese, English, French, German, etc. And have you played the game for 70+ hours to see if the color palette changes? I know Ocarina of Time was pretty "drab" at the end when the whole world went to shit.

You're the same person that would be calling the game too "kiddie" if it had a Mario color palette. Go back to your precious PS and XBOX and let someone that deserves it get to play Zelda.

We know what Zelda looks like. We've been seeing videos and screens for the longest time. But...

This IS a game MADE for the Gamecube. The Wii version only has a few improvements, it's not a rebuild at all. It's only been since E3 that they announced it would be on the Wii, and even then the purpose of the Wii version was to use the controller.

PS3 games SHOULD look better. The thing is over twice as much as a Wii, and the games are more expensive.

I know it's a review and it's your opinions, but it's not the least bit objective. People getting the Wii know very well they aren't getting the graphical powerhouse of the three consoles. They are getting for games they will enjoy.
