Today's hottest game video: Japanese launch report
Today's hottest game video -- the second-most watched game clip from YouTube -- is a Japanese newscast battle between the PS3 and Wii. Which of the consoles will win on its native soil? We're not sure, lacking critical Japanese-speaking skills, but the newscast is entertaining regardless. The almost six-minute report evenly splits coverage between the two consoles, showing games and man-on-the-street interviews for each. The video culminates in a Monday Night Football-style explosion between the two consoles. Clearly, gratuitous explosions know no language.

I don't see how the PS3 can "win" against Wii with far, far less PS3's available to sell.
With millions more available to sell, Wii "won" before launch day even arrived. So I'm a little confused about why they are even being compared.
Justin @ Nov 11th 2006 12:27AM
I don't understand how a george foreman grill/fax machine/toaster has the japanese so crazy for the PS3, i think the Wii will do an amazing job because they actualy have great software comming to their system. the only launch game for the PS3 that actualy worth buying, is resistance and that 40 somthing person online play just seems like Jeuno in FFXI: Online (meaning LAG!!!!!)
mmxzero @ Nov 11th 2006 12:37AM
lol, did you see his reaction when he fired the Kamehameha?! and I think he said the wiimote was amazing at the end of the tennis part. Hooray for watching fansubs.
gphoenix51 @ Nov 11th 2006 12:41AM
Sweet, you can throw a Kamehameha wave just like in DBZ. The guy seemed lots more animated when he got the WiiMote in his hand.
I want that Wii smock the Demo chick had on.
sports fan @ Nov 11th 2006 12:58AM
I also don't see how the PS3 can possibly be the top contender with this, good to see I am not alone.
F8X @ Nov 11th 2006 1:18AM
KAHMEHAMEHA!!!111
friedgreenmushrooms @ Nov 11th 2006 1:26AM
That was the best news report I've ever seen. Why can't our news be like that?
That guy when he's shouting about playing tennis by swinging the remote? When she tells him how he just has to swing the remote, and he's like, "What?! I don't even need to press buttons? Really?!"...that's just great.
And when he yelled out "Kamehameha!" playing DBZ, and pushed his arms forward...
Priceless.
Epsilon @ Nov 11th 2006 2:05AM
The video wasn't actually a comparison of the two but instead talked about the features of each, their launch dates, and talked about some of the games on each system. It also interviewed people asking what their first impressions of them were and whether or not they want one.

good to see people can ramble inchoherently in a very rambly fashion
enzo @ Nov 11th 2006 3:03AM
Do you even know what "native 1080p" means? AND WHY IT DOESNT MAKE A FUCKING DIFFERENCE!?
Wait wait wait there's no way you can be serious anyway, I'm stopping.
Premaximum @ Nov 11th 2006 3:23AM
"12. good to see you adding absolutely nothing. if you actually read what i wrote you would see i debunk alot of the shit talk that goes on around here."
You have to be coherent to debunk something...
kite @ Nov 11th 2006 4:58AM
If you want to make your point about how great your ps3 is, please do it in a nice formatted way. This was a pain to read.
And from your arguments, I have to say I cant take you serious. After reading that text, you are just another blind 12 year old kid that desperatly wants a ps3, and is on a crusade to free the land of non-believers.
Something you can't do with that level of english though...
Attend some more classes before natural selection catches up with you.
the_godfather @ Nov 11th 2006 6:03AM
once again, who doesn't already have a dvd player that they need their friggin console to play dvd's for them...if it keeps production costs down to not add some lame feature i'm all for it. as for the video, japanese newscasts ftw!
FuzzyPickles @ Nov 11th 2006 6:43AM
"is it zelda or zoo tycoon man."
Funniest shit I've read in a month.
jgrey @ Nov 11th 2006 7:13AM
PS3's future is wide open. Those of you who think they've already lost aren't seeing this far and deep enough.
It is my prediction that many of the key Japanese players such as SquareEnix, Konami, Koei, Capcom are likely to remain mainly on PS3 in a long run. 360's foot print in Japan is nonexistant, and I can't see why the devs would move over to such a minority console. Moving to Wii is also unlikely as those devs all have big franchises that rely on high processing power.
No doubt they will make good games for all 3 consoles, but the main titles have nowhere to go but to PS3.
jgrey @ Nov 11th 2006 7:20AM
Sorry to double post, but somehow I forgot to type the key line - that I think PS3 will have the unique flavour of console traditionalism, as opposed to PC centric gaming of 360 or innovationism of Wii.
So, it's all wide open.
MudcrabDL @ Nov 12th 2006 9:15PM
Hoo boy. There were so many flaws with that above rant that I don't know where to start. I'll make a start with this section here.
---
the closeups of the wii show that the plastic is slightly jagged (a sign of cheap plastic) no one was calling for a revolution anyway, we were all doing perfectly fine with the analog sticks. Oh and no dvd playback, yeh right fellas, its ok if you dont want to take a risk and add in a next gen format, but to not even support dvd, now that is just unfortunate, considering japan gets dvd functionality.

1. The exterior of the console is completely irrelevant. It would seem that this fanboy has forgotten to mention the freaking hugeness of the original Playstation 2. And the original X-box, as well, but no one cares about that anyway. Now, my fellow gamers, tell me what you would prefer? A console with stunning innovation, but made of sub-par plastic, or a sub-par console with plastic forged by Jesus?
...Don't answer that.
2. No one was calling for a revolution anyway. This, kiddo, is where you give both your young age, and your Sony fanboyism away. Honestly. What does this have to do with anything? The Revolution was the working name of the Wii. Saying that no one asked for a revolution is not only irrelivant, but not even a pun anymore. Post that six months back and someone might give a damn.
3. DVD = Next-Gen? I think not. Being able to play DVDs with your console is not innovative, it is merely throwing in extra features to put on the box. In all honesty, who here uses their PS2 over their DVD player to watch movies? I think I have seen perhaps two movies using my PS2. However, saying "You can do anything with this console! Play games! Watch movies! Play music!" makes it look like you might be able to use it for something other then hitting virtual hookers.
In all honesty, kid, you are a typical fanboy. Your mind is completely closed to other consoles. I, personally, am attempting to stay impartial, but it is getting pretty damn hard with idiots like you pushing me off my fence.

"plus im 21, im in college u deuchebag and i desperately have my preorder."
Whoa, college! No parents, no rules! Are you fucking kidding me? How the hell do you desperately have a preorder. I think my brain may start bleeding at the sheer incomprehensiveness of that statement. And competing for the nobel prize is just a little bit different than maybe being a little more coherent. But you know that, you're in college.
On a side not, your precious little PS3 is gonna get an ass whippin' on the sales charts. The revolution is coming, get used to it. Write me a note in a year and tell me how that crow tastes.
unkown @ Nov 11th 2006 10:08AM
all of you are fucking gay the ps3 is going to be highset sold after launch date the wii may have more units but after christmas the ps3 will sell twice as many units as the wii because nintendo for the past couple of years has been a sytem for younger kids because of the little anamated games that nintendo makes but think of it this way people that are older normaly like action gun games and sports game wich is where sony will deystroy the wii because older people have more money than little kids and the ps3 has an amazing networking system
Jin @ Nov 11th 2006 10:43AM
What was that card game on PS3 with camera... that looks freaking awesome...
Senshida @ Nov 11th 2006 10:45AM
@unknown

jaybleezy @ Nov 11th 2006 10:56AM
@Unkown and @19 Both of you can just got get your precious PS3 and fuck each other when your done. You think just because your 21, and in college that it makes you far superior to others in here. Just because your drinking age doesn't make you shit. You still have to have brains dumbass.
That's funny unkown or whatever your lame ass name is you say that Nintendo is only for kids. Hmm so I guess all the RE games will have my 6 yr old and my 2 yr old laughing and smiling. You must also be young to not know enough, my bad we just have too many youngsters on Joystiq. I have nothing against PS3 other than it's way too expensive and I have a 360 and DS and soon Wii. So why would I waste my money on something that's nothing.
So boys don't be late for school, moms coming with lunch around 11:00 a.m.
karlito @ Nov 11th 2006 11:21AM
What some of yall are true fanboys.
ps3 is cool not enough games that i wanna play out for it. Wii looks like its gonna be fun and i'm loving GOW for xbox360. If your a fanboy of one system its you thats losing out in the end. Great games come on all systems
Hank @ Nov 11th 2006 2:47PM
Looks like the Wii will win this one, because of price point and availability.
If Sony is able to drop the price of their console they will probably be able to sell more consoles.
#15 I would have to agree you.
The biggest thing that I wonder about is if because of pricing, will it affect the sales of PS3 and Sony's dominance over the video game arena?
Will other developers move in on the other consoles and try to develop some high quality games in order to take up the slack that some of the developers will make better games for PS3?
If this is the case senario, then Sony probably was right when they said the next gen starts when they say so.
Damn, I hate this, I want to know the outcome to all this already, guess its going to be a interesting year after all.
Jeff @ Nov 11th 2006 4:13PM
Holy cow, now I know why I don't usually bother reading the comments here on weekends. Go outside and play some football or something, kids. Sheesh. Some of you obviously need to get out some of your adolescent aggression.
