"Does anyone know the maximum amount of units employees are allowed to pre-order?"

From the leaks and info posted online, it sounds like a maximum of two employee reserves per store, and they're being "asked" (read: told) to wait for the second shipment to actually pick them up.

Of course, YMMV depending on the store in question, I'd assume.

Personally.....I think all of them are going to get short changed in one way or another....maybe it will minimal....like one or two...but that is going to be one or two pre-orders that won't get filled.

Pre-orders should be illegal. An attorney general from some state should go after these companies for perpetually failing to deliver on their promises.
Who gives money to someone for the vague promise of possibly someday delivering? I mean do people who pre-order buy airline tickets for the chance that the airplane might be there at the gate for them to board? Why can't they just sell them in stores when they have them? They prey on our society's increasing penchants for impatience. If people who pre-ordered were smart, they would be mounting a class action law suit or at least complaining to the better business bureau or the FTC, but then I guess if they were smart they wouldn't have pre-ordered. I believe PT Barnum said it best "There's a sucker born every minute"

@ Hardcore

Don't they tell you when you pre-order this does not gurantee you a unit? That was the disclaimer that I was told when I got my 360 from Gamestop. Due to limited quantities your pre-order may not get filled. Then it is on me to take that chance if I want to pre-order or walk away. The consumer is culpable in this as well. I could have easily taken my 50.00 and walked out the door and just waited. I took a chance and got mine on launch day. Some people didn't. It is a gamble but it is something they disclose at the register....

That's not what GameStop told me when I didn't get my Gears of War on November 7th after I'd paid them $69.99 months earlier.

Never. Pre-order. Again.

The main problem I have here is the fact the employees are getting the shaft to make the rule "make the customer happy" happen.

Are we not customers too? We have to pay for it as well. We arent getting it for free. We arent getting a discount. We may have not had to "camp" but thats like the ONLY benefit of working there...first dibs on things. The company put 2-3 aside for the employees while the remaining 5-6 went to the customers. Technically, with them saying we may only get 5-6..the customers STILL get their reserves. Its the employees that lose out on this error.

So, if they really want to make this fair. They should, I hate to say it, have a lottery/raffle. Put all the reserves in a hat, pull out the 5-6 that each store will get and be done with it. There will be employees and customers chosen. The rest of customers and employees will have to wait. But the employees should not only be the ones that have to suffer because little Billy wants one for X-mas and therefore employee X has to wait till March.

I'm not getting one, but I'm just speaking for the EB/GS workers in general. I actually chuckled a bit when I heard this on the conference call, because I knew something would happen...

@ Snap

Hmmm my understanding was there was a shipping problem. That was true for the Gamestop near my house. I ordered mine from Circuit City because I had a 15 percent off coupon. I pre-ordered on 11/04. Called on Tuesday to see if they received it and they said no...there was a UPS shipping issue...should be in no later than Friday. I was like wow. But what are you going to do....blame Circuit City for a UPS problem??? Turned out it came in Wednesday and I picked it up Saturday. Now when I went to Gamestop on Sunday I asked if they had Gears of War issues and they said their problem was selling out. They had sold out twice since Tuesday. Only had 25 left.

I was told the game would be available in store on November 7th. I got a phone call on Monday telling me it would be there. I then got a call on Tuesday telling me it would be there on Wednesday. I then got a call on Wednesday telling me they had a shipping problem and I could get it on Thursday. Huh?

I don't care if it was a shipping problem. I paid for the game in advance, I was told multiple times it would be there and it wasn't. So, I bought it from Best Buy and canceled my pre-order. GG GameStop.

BTW, it was FedEx, not UPS.

All you damn fools should expect a thank you note from Gamestop for the free $100 loan that you gave them (again). With all of the money that they earned from the interest on all of the pre-orders they've been hard at work thinking up new and creative ways of fucking you again come the next major game or console release. (I suspect it'll be Burning Crusade but that's just me).

@Griking: This isn't the doing of EB/Gamestop, but rather that of Sony. The stores thought they were going to have a certain amount of PS3s to sell, and Sony turned around and told them that they have even less. This isn't like when the stores didn't know how many 360s they were getting, but decided to give out 64 pre-orders anyway.

at everyone who thinks pre-orders are bad, 1... for the gears of war people who are complaining that they didn't get it on the 7th/8th... the "release day" was the 12th... don't complain... you were told that if you preordered you could pick it up early... when the store got it in... not the 7th/8th for sure.... you got it early anyways.... don't complain

2.... ps3 preorders.... with EB games and Gamestop they waited until Sony told them how many they would get before the took pre-orders, unlike last year with the 360. Later that day, once all pre-orders had been taken, Sony then told EB Games and Gamestop that those they had just told them about, they were not going to guarantee those before christmas. So in no way is that your local retailers fault... if you want to blame someone go find your local sony hotline and call and complain

This isnt surprising because Saturday I asked the guys at EB Games if I had to wait until the next day to pick up the Wii or if they were having a midnight launch and they told me

"We arent even sure if we're getting all of our units so we're going to be calling everyone personally"

My EB only took 13 reserves for the Wii so i'm going to start going apeshit if I don't get my Wii (i'm number 10)

Just to throw a little more gasoline on the flames...

If GS/EB, which have 5,000 stores, can't get 50,000 units and they're the largest games retailer in the country - what does that say about everywhere else? They were deliberately limiting their pre-sales because that's what Sony TOLD them they were going to get. Now they're being cut - that's NOT how you make the people that have to sell your product happy.

What are we looking at now, only 250,000 total units for the US this holiday?

"What happens to those who put their PS3 on eBay and now get it delayed? Will they be faulted for GameStop's actions?"

Damn well they SHOULD be. You can't have your cake and eat it too - if you *insist* on selling a product you do not already have in your hands, you bear any and all risk of that product not being available. Greed comes with risk, and nobody should cut these guys a break.

Some things I felt needed to be addressed. First off noone is more pissed then the store employees. Not only are they not getting thier PS3 at launch but have to hear it from everyone else thats not getting thiers also. EBGamestop does not manufacture these systems so we have no control on what Sony is sending us.

EBGamestop took preorders because not a day goes by that someone doesnt ask us "When can I preorder the PS3?" It was done because customers demanded it. They waited to take preorders because Sony could not give us an estimate of systems they could send us. When they got an estimate, they actually lowered that number and gave each store thier preorder alottments. Then Sony a week before launch informs them they cannot fulfill thier end of the agreement.

As far as money that was put down? I cannot say for sure, but having an understanding of how the industry works, I would not doubt this money does the exact same thing for the company as it does for the customers. They use this money to preorder thier alottments from the manufacture. In this case I am sure a hefty deposit was givin to Sony to secure thier shipments of PS3 systems several months ago. Same with games and everything else they preorder. These people are paid in advance for thier products just to secure that they can get them at the same time everyone else does. This is why independent game stores have a hard time breaking into the market. They just do not have the buying power that the big corps do.

To the people that say EBGamestop pays you crap for your trades. One bit of advice, if you do not like the offer do not sell it!!!

Do not shoot yourself in the foot then bitch later that your foot hurts.

Thinking the PS3 is worth $600 is one thing (I can understand that; if I was a millionaire, I'd buy one too) but you have to be some kind of retard to think a pre-order from Gamestop is worth $100. It's not worth the paper they print it on. You also have to be retarded to think that one of their used games is worth only $2 less than a new copy.
