MTV gets it right with Gamer's Week 2.0 (the spelling at least)
Last year we were very skeptical of MTV's unfortunately-named GameØRZ Week, "an unprecedented multiplatform assault of video game related programming." Just a couple days in, we reevaluated our initial gag reflex and managed to find some decent programming nestled away, comfortably, inside MTV's unprecedented assault. So this year, we welcome the new, properly spelled Gamer's Week (2.0, natch) with less opprobrium and more hope. MTV's compiled programming across their network -- including MTV, MTV2, mtvU, games.mtv.com, Xfire, and GameTrailers -- starting today and running until Saturday. Check out our interview with MTV News' Stephen Totilo for some insight into some of the programs, hit up the press release to get the details on the week's events so you and your TiVo can coordinate, or peep games.mtv.com, "the one-stop-shop for all things Gamer's Week 2.0."

Talking about spelling - shouldn't that be Gamers' week, assuming there's more than one gamer involved?

Guarantee that they will never or barely mention the Wii. Even if it is launching one day after it ends.
Hell my bet is that they say nothing negative about the PS3 period and hail it as the new savior coming from the heavens to bring glory to all who come near it.
Now I have nothing against the PS3, I am just getting annoyed at the one sided coverage in the mainstream media. CNN, Local news, and the newspapers all talk about the upcoming PS3 launch and give a single sentence or no mention at all to the Wii launch. [Of course I am not talking about Joystiq and other "Gaming" blogs who actually do a really good job being fair and even handed.]

#1: I was thinking the same thing. It's not a week for gamers, but a week for one particular gamer. Who? We'll never know. Still a right sight better than Game0RZ.
#2: It isn't limited to MTV. I saw the same thing on G4, supposedly a network geared toward gamers and gaming. They were touting some sort of show that was going to cover the launch of the PS3. Their teaser was all in PS3 font and only mentioned that the PS3 was looking to knock off the Xbox 360. No mention of the Wii there either.

#3: Heh. The only shows left on G4 that actually has anything to really do with video games now is Game Makers and cinamatech. Even the fantastic game makers has succumb to this by every other day showing their "Madden 07 for the PS3" episode for the last two weeks.
Yes, yes xplay still exists but I have always considered it a comedy show that happens to review games. :-)

MTV...not what I would consider a good source for music. Why would video games be any different? Kind of like their exclusive craptastic unveiling of the xbox360.
lets just put the gun down and we go get me those fries @ Nov 13th 2006 11:28AM
oh no not this stupid shit again, microsoft is cahooting with mtv so w.e. its gonna be an URGE, ZUNE, XBOX360, WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, MICROSOFT LIVE ..... ORGY! cuz you know they will tie it into gaming one way or another, saying something like:
eliah wood: the xbox 360 will soon give u access to the zune...
sway: the zune is the holy grail of gaming... (poor sway, he thinks he knows what hes talkin about and shit)

Talking of spelling (#1) - No, it shouldn't.
Its gamer's as in it belongs to a gamer (or gamers).
I believe it is fine.

...because when i think games, i think mtv.

Relax everyone. Have any of you stopped to think that the more exposure games get, the better?
At least MTV is *trying* to do something cool for a change. And I've looked at all their content for the week. Less than 25% is advertiser-driven.
The G-Hole is HILARIOUS. It's on tonight at 8PM EST and has some really cool stuff. Stalker exclusive preview, NBA Street exclusive preview, Rayman Raving Rabbids, etc.
They also have Wii features in the G-Hole, a full hour devoted to the Wii on Sucker Free and segments with Tony Hawk and other celebs all around the Wii this afternoon.
The channel has made a big point of saying they're going to be "console agnostic."
Don't hate. Appreciate.
