Cnet editors like PS3 most; Cnet users like Wii most

After testing all three next-generation platforms, Cnet, better known for their subjective computer and software reviews, deem the PS3 the slightly better console presumably due to its beefier tech specs that the site always seems to be a sucker for. The article does praise all three systems as "excellent," however, and it's interesting to note that while the editors preferred the PS3, user ratings favored the Wii. From the multi-console review: "The bottom line: there's something for everyone on each of these consoles, so you're better off seeing which of the exclusive games most appeal to you, and picking up the corresponding machine. And remember: there's nothing wrong with getting two--or even all three."

CNet got their hands on a PS3 and a Wii?

Cnet is dumb.
T-Bag @ Nov 14th 2006 6:42AM
- bearattack79,
A tie? What gave you that idea? Cnet said the PS3 came out on top because of it's specs, meaning it puts out the best graphics and most things on the screen at once. It also offers ingenuity with the eye-toy and the Sixaxis controller. The 360 is it's only true competitor due to the fact that it's as close as you'll get to those kind of visuals. As for the Wii... Well, it's not even considered a competitor. Truth is, the only thing the Wii should be challenging is the Gamecube, and even then it might fail.
- Jaq,
Beautifully put.

I think it's all well and good to make predictions and all, but I don't think we'll truly know what we are in for until around the beginning of next year. But wouldn't it be good if they were all up there with each other?

T-bag may I say that you are a fanboy and it doesn't take a genious to figure that out.You may think Sony has won, well to tell you the truth ill probably see it in the bargain bin in the next couple of years. The Sony developers lack creativity and you seem to like that. But don't go paying out other consoles just because you're as stubborn as the stain on your shirt.
rom @ Nov 14th 2006 7:09AM
i swear cnet net is dumb because every time they give a rating they always give it a 6 or 7 and others like pc magazine give it 8 or 9. besides c net is cheap look at there computer tutorials they are running windows 98.
FuzzyPickles @ Nov 14th 2006 7:10AM
T-bag is definitely a troll. There is no way a human being with any intelligence can use the word "ingenuity" in the same sentence as "sixaxis". Even the V-Flash controller (sorry, I work at TRU) has the left analog stick in the correct fucking place, something Sony couldn't be bothered with.

SLherder @ Nov 14th 2006 7:51AM
No way its a "tie" b/c this is the NEXT GEN. and the Wii can't even play a CD or DVD. If it wasn't for the Wii-mote would the Wii be anything more than a better looking GameCube? Come on ppl yes it looks fun but Xbox360 and PS3 are on target here. and if i was a betting man and I was to pick one system to represent Next Gen gaming for the next 6yrs it would have to be the PS3, b/c it is a serious gaming system. Oh and it won't have to have somthing to connected to every USB port to make work like the others *cough 360*

It's called being flexible and having choices. Isn't that better then forcing you buy everything at once?
Ragnarokender @ Nov 14th 2006 1:17PM
Users? I didnt know the Wii was released yet. PS3? Isnt there like 5 games for that console? 360...that thing was released a year ago, is it even fair to compare now?
JJ @ Nov 14th 2006 8:23AM
Holy crap its a picture of Sega's PSBoxWii63 (aka Dreamcast 2 or Phoenix) that I am getting next year. Only $1250.
SLherder @ Nov 14th 2006 8:44AM
"It's called being flexible and having choices. Isn't that better then forcing you buy everything at once?"
No, this flexibility you speak of is what I call scrambling to keep up the competition. And man your right it would suck to have everything all at once so that I don't have to pay double for it to be an external accessory later.
Lot of ppl keep complaining about the price tag of the Playstation 3 but if you own a 360 and want it to be wifi and have the HD DVD your looking at an xtra $300 right there. Hopefully you didn't buy a core system and end up having to buy a $99 20gb HDD.
But your probably right Next Gen Systems probably should have everything run on an external accessory that’s flexible

Why is it that some people are so idiotic that they immediately equate next gen to better than last gen. It doesnt always work that way. Sure, it has more POTENTIAL to be better than last gen, but shit doesnt always work that way. Never take something as a given merely because its version x+1. Ask Atari about that, and Sega...
Matt @ Nov 14th 2006 8:43AM
So the user reviews should be considered because none of the people who actually rated it own the system yet? Right, nice one Joystiq. The only valid statement in this situation should be based solely upon the ratings given by the Cnet editors.

I don’t remember telling anyone I wanted my game system to play movies, the xbox was a terrible dvd player. If I want an HD DVD or Blu-Ray player I will go buy one when the format war is over.
Special_K @ Nov 14th 2006 9:23AM
Honestly, I'm getting a little tired of the fanboyism directed against the PS3. I get it: it's overpriced and the SIXAXIS is blatant method of staying constantly on the cutting edge. BUT: It's an extremely high-powered console, has a brand name that has (despite what has been said beofre) carried the trust of gamers for two gens of consoles, the interface is teh smex, the thing actually looks pretty nice on the outside, and it isn't going to be a failure- if only because Japan and the rest of Asia are Xbox-haters. Honestly, if I had a kickass HD setup and a lot of money to blow, I'd buy the PS3. It's the Atari Jaguar of its time: overpriced and overpowered, but really good. I want it, I can't get it, and if I did, I wouldn't be able to use it. But there's an enormous market out there that can and will. We have to step back and accept that the PS3 is a really amazing piece of technology, and the most high-powered (graphics wise) console out there. (BTW: I am a Wii fanboy, am on pre-order, and have never owned a PSx or PS2)

The Cnet audience are a bunch of wiinies.. no wonder they prefer Wii over PS3 even though neither have been released; they been brainwashed by the Nintendo PR machine.
Spence @ Nov 14th 2006 10:09AM
Of course the Wii has a higher rating, there's a bunch of crappy 360 losers who are all over the net trying to influence the online rating systems. They don't care about the Wii, it's not a direct competitor.
maximus @ Nov 14th 2006 9:37AM
Within 2 days Blu Ray players have entered more homes than HD-DVD players with approx 90,000 Blu Ray equipped PS3s in Japanese homes. Next week another 400,000 will be in American homes. Why do you think most of the movie studios including Disney are backing Blu Ray? Go on buy your HD-DVD add on, put it next to that brick of a power supply. As much as i love my 360 'd much rather have it all in one box thanks. Choice is great but this has nothing to do with choice, this is MS trying to match Sony all the time.

"Hey Now... Mini Disc Failed, UMD Failing, Blu Ray yet to be seen. but im hoping that 3rd times a charm. giggity"
you forgot betamax... so it was three strikes and you're out... haha
and also, for those that automatically assume that because the ps3 is the best hardware that it will win even if it is WAY too expensive, think back 14 years, and remember the 3DO... it was way better than the snes and genesis in terms of graphics and hardware, but it sure didn't do very well, mostly because it cost 3 times as much...
nintendo knows what it means to "play" a game... and microsoft has learned the hard way that people don't want everything bundled together...

"26. who says the ps3 has more power full specs"
Developers have stated that the PS3 has more power under the hood, that will only become apparent over time as they get to grips with it. Though the difference between the two won't be huge in anyway.
That article contains a lot of 'if' statements! Can they tell developers how to stop the VSync tearing please on 360 games.
fawazr @ Nov 14th 2006 9:58AM
T-Bag makes all PS3 owners (prospective owners) look like delusional fanboys.
Hank @ Nov 14th 2006 10:01AM
It would appear that the PS3 is the more powerful system. It is my belief that Sony is working with such new technology that their better games will probably not start showing up until Christmas 2007.
Because of this power will it mean better games? (Final Fantasy, a resounding yes)
When one thinks about, it all comes down to the games, which will ultimately make or break the system.
Dogle @ Nov 14th 2006 10:16AM
Makes you wonder why Assassins Creed on the 360 will have better AI than the PS3 version, yet both will sport the same graphics.
Cry Havoc @ Nov 14th 2006 10:19AM
Spence:
When the Wii passes the 360 in total sales by around the mid-point of next year, I bet you'll hear a different story from the Microsoft and Sony camps. It's easy to dismiss someone as a potential competitor when they haven't cut deeply into your potential profit margins.
Just sayin'.
bearattack79 @ Nov 14th 2006 10:22AM
T-Bag I would respond to your comment but the people have spoken.
kuroshi @ Nov 14th 2006 10:33AM
I actually don't want an HD or Blu-ray player. I don't watch alot of movies outside of the theatre. Console players have never been that great anyway. I never played a dvd with my xbox or ps2. As far as rating machines on theoretical performance, that's just stupid. It depends on which calculations you are making. The ps3 is faster at some and the 360 is faster at others. We don't play theory, we play games. The core of Gears of War was playable around the 360 launch. It is the best looking game on any console. The Wii may be underpowered but it's games may be more fun than both, and that's what matters.
Mr Hulot @ Nov 14th 2006 10:25AM
Why all this useless fight?
Just buy the 3 consoles, that's all.
And if you don't have the money, just wait for six years when they will be available on PC with emulators! (dude, I can finally play some fantastic Atari 2600 games that my parents couldn't afford me at that time, yeah!)
