More hearsay about modern Call of Duty
Back in March, some reliable intel informed us that the Call of Duty franchise was splitting off in two directions. We learned that a studio other than Infinity Ward was working on another WWII-based CoD entry. As suspected, this turned out to be Treyarch's Call of Duty 3. Our sources also detailed Infinity Ward's next CoD effort, dubbed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which would introduce the series to the 'war on terror.'Some eight months later, Amped IGO reports its sources have re-confirmed Infinity Ward's modern-day CoD installment. The major bullet point posted in this report is that each rendered head will feature 16 critical points of contact, allowing players to experiment with trick shots like spinning an enemy's helmet by shooting the corresponding point. Allegedly, you'll even be able to blast off your enemy's ear.
Amped also claims that Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4 (what Amped refers to the game as) will bring the franchise back to PC (in addition to consoles) -- Treyarch's Call of Duty 3 is currently console-only. Sources have placed multiplayer support at up to 54 players.

Yeah, Somebody, give Ubisoft some competition.I only wish CoD played a little less like Halo.

I thought a lot of COD 3 was pretty lame. It can't even compare with 2. I wonder how a modern COD would be?

Wow... if multiple precision of headshots is a selling point, this sounds like major fail. Why would they move from the second most saturated FPS market, to the most saturated market? Boring.
SickNic @ Nov 14th 2006 1:55PM
Its going to be pretty weird for us veterans of OIR and OEF to play a game that hits so close to home. I hope they can do it tactfully.
To add though, I think Activision and IW already screwed the pooch when it comes to PC gamers after they abandoned COD2 for the PC to concentrate on the Xbox360 version. There are a lot of pissed off PC gamers that are still sore from that.

Yes, thank you black baby jesus!
I swear to god im so sick and fucking tired of WW2 Games! I dont even buy them anymore on pure fucking principle.
Brothers in arms.
Brothers of valor.
Band of duty.
Duty brothers of ww2.
Call of brotherly arms.
Jesus christ, ANYTHING but another ww2 shooter. Please? PLEASE?

I am still pissed off at IW abandoning the PC Version of COD2. I do think that they will do a great job on this when it's done.

After Gears of War it's hard to imagine another compelling FPS coming to the 360 besides Halo 3.
Neebs @ Nov 14th 2006 2:59PM
No thanks! I got a WW2 RTS, FPS, and a flight sim. if I can figure out how to make my damn mouse work with it. Maybe if the game wasn't Halo online with a 1 hit kill sniper rifle...

"8. After Gears of War it's hard to imagine another compelling FPS coming to the 360 besides Halo 3."
Not too hard to imagine. Gears is a TPS

Why does nobody understand what FPS means?

I'd rather see them spend development money and time inproving AI, psychics and even the writing then wasting it on crappy "cool factors" like 13 different places to shoot someone in the head. Seriously, that's the problem with all this next-gen hoopla: we getting too detailed in the wrong areas: sweat rolling of Shaq's face (damn that makes the game so much better!) and 100 different ways someone can get killed!
I'd rather see games that have more stuff: more levels, unlockables, etc. We have the storage space capable of this and it seems that the graphics have almost peaked out to where we can't tell the difference between Ridge Racer 6 on the 360 and RR7 on the PS3.
But I'm sure the new CoD will be the best selling game for the month that comes out. The majority of consumers are naive and conservative when it comes to buying games.

So this nes one, based on the war on terror, will basically be you walking around an urban environment doing police duty? Sounds fun.
Daran @ Nov 14th 2006 5:07PM
Praise jesus, but maybe IW should do somthing different than Urban warfare... they have the talent.

Regardless of your FPS/TPS error.
Assuming you just mean shooters in general, not just FPSs...
what about Rainbow Six:Vegas?
What about Army of Two?
What about Kane and Lynch?
What about Turok?
What about Shadowrun?
what about Lost Planet?
what about BioShock (which I swear I mention in like half of my posts now)?
Or can those just not live up to the polished mediocrity of the Halo franchise?
Listen, I've got nothing against Halo - great games - but to say that there is nothing else compelling in the realm of shooters is incredibly short-sighted.
cerberus414 @ Nov 14th 2006 10:52PM
This would be freaking insane though. 54 Players? in the Modern Warfare. Wow, I'm drooling right now. Just think about it. US vs Russia. Rawr!!!
