$100 Xbox 360 mail-in rebate from Micro Center
With only 19 retail store locations nationwide, this may involve a road trip -- be sure to call ahead for availability.Micro Center is offering up a $100 mail-in rebate for Xbox 360 (Premium or Core) purchases. The catch, your 'box can only be copped in-store (not online) between November 12 (last Sunday) and December 3. It's also worth noting that the rebate could take up to 3 months to process. Still, for those of you in the gift-giving business, this is a bargain not to be missed.

crono141 @ Nov 15th 2006 3:34PM
You still fail, because I don't want a 360, I want a wii.
STFU Fanbot.
FOX @ Nov 15th 2006 3:35PM
Large $$ mail-in rebates = Console price cut in the near future (my guess would be by June)
JodyAnthony @ Nov 15th 2006 3:36PM
AMEN, crono
>, have to 'try this again' here because you keep getting your ass handed to you in the other thread?
dannyboy112591 @ Nov 15th 2006 3:37PM
I have a Microcenter like 15 minutes away but still I'm getting a Wii and don't know if I should get a 360 too...or get a 360 and not a Wii.
JodyAnthony @ Nov 15th 2006 3:39PM
I live 15 minutes from one microcenter, and have band practice 15 minutes away from another microcenter, and I am still getting Wii. It's already all paid off.
also >, why would this even matter? either way, people are buying 360 or Wii, not your precious PS3
BlindsideDork @ Nov 15th 2006 3:41PM
Yeah it is about 30 mins from me but after buying an HD tv that started to die after 30 days (can't return it but only get it fixed), I am skeptical of that store.
Granted it could be the TV itself and manufacture...but still, I am cautious!
SM @ Nov 15th 2006 3:41PM
Got mine 2 days ago.. they also run a Vonage $200 off instant rebate, if you sign up to a 12 month agreement at $15.99 or $24.95 unlimited calling per month..
pretty good deal!
BlindsideDork @ Nov 15th 2006 3:45PM
Plus, even if you do the $100 rebate, 360 systems to this date STILL have issues and die.
Nintendo systems are known for their reliablity and ability to WORK right from launch.
Final Boss @ Nov 15th 2006 3:43PM
You're not kidding, I'm in Columbus, Ohio and I just got a flyer yesterday... from Cincinnati.
Ian @ Nov 16th 2006 4:23PM
Jesus people, how do you turn this into a war of fanboys? Joystiq is nice enought to post a good deal for a 360 for those that want it and theres a thousand posts that say "I don't need no 360 Xbot!!!1111 Wii for me!!!1!1ONE11." Seriously people, what is wrong with you? No one said you must buy a 360 now or that the 360 is better than a Wii cause you can get it for cheaper. What a joke.
SP @ Nov 15th 2006 3:58PM
to the first poster, there is no such thing as a core xbox. the core xbox is for someone that doesn't have the money right away, but eventually, they'll end up spending the $100 no matter what because you need a hard drive.
also, xbox 360 + wii < ps3. sony is getting pnwed left and right.
Paul @ Nov 15th 2006 3:55PM
Blindside - I have a launch 360 and have never had a problem - though there were consoles with issues it was publicized in a new way because this is truly the first launch in the era of Web 2.0. My guess is that if properly taken care of they dont have any more failures (statistically) than other launches.
Intentless @ Nov 15th 2006 3:58PM
In all reported cases I have seen people have been storing them improperly. Putting them in poorly ventalated areas opening them up and cooking eggs on them... All my friends have them and the only one that had a problem is my buddy that spends about 20 hrs a day everyday playing... He killed his disk reader... And yes I know that only leaves 4 hrs to eat and sleep but somehow that is what he does...
Tim @ Nov 15th 2006 6:50PM
Deal is good. Got one last night at the Denver store for my friend in Wisconsin. Looks like they had quite a few cores left- didn’t see the premiums (may have been in the back). Smoking hot.
NATO_Duke @ Nov 15th 2006 4:00PM
Wow...seriously, you people are talking sh*t over a rebate being given for a 360. There's a true fanboy. No need to trash it, but off you go.
TheH2s @ Nov 15th 2006 4:13PM
I live in Ohio and I did this the last go around. It took me about 6 weeks to get my rebate check.
jaybleezy @ Nov 15th 2006 4:25PM
@Paul that's not exactly true. My first XBOX 360 was a launch system and I had it sitting on a glass end table all by itself. Twice I had to take it in and get it repaired through Microsoft.
grub @ Nov 15th 2006 4:30PM
I live in Dayton and just called the Sharronville store (right out size of Cincinnati) and they have 20 left. Me and my friend are debating on going down right now...
Steve @ Nov 15th 2006 4:35PM
Be wary of rebates on electronic devices. A lot of times the rebates are handled by a third party (Parago) that does everything in its power to keep you from getting your money. I bought a TiVo with a $100 rebate that was processed by Parago and it took months, a complaint to the Attorney General of Texas, and several complaints to TiVo before I finally got my money. Around that time I also had other rebates that appeared to be handled by Parago (the paperwork was the same) and many of them were also rejected for some B.S. reason. Fortunately with those I didn't have to fight so hard to get my money.
Rebates just aren't worth it and I no longer buy things when a mail-in rebate is involved. If you want to tempt me with $100 off, then you'll have to do it by taking $100 off at the store.
TheH2s @ Nov 15th 2006 4:40PM
#19 -
Microcenter actually did a great job with their rebate. They have a website that you can use to track where your rebate is in the process. It's pretty cool.

"Let me try this again...

Or, all of that for the price of a premium PS3 =)
I would love to get a PS3, but it looks like I will have to wait a few years for a price drop.
Pete C @ Nov 15th 2006 4:53PM
#21, how are you planning to save your games with that Core system? :) I think the better deal is the Premium -$100 since you get component cables, wireless controllers, and the HDD. At $300 total all you need is a game.
James @ Nov 15th 2006 5:15PM
This really makes the Wii60 look more attractive... now, if only I weren't so damn poor...
jear-ed @ Nov 15th 2006 6:29PM
hmm kool there's a microcenter nearby me but sadly if I get a 360 now I wont have enough money for wii ;_;
Raynre @ Nov 15th 2006 5:40PM
No Florida, no dice. I aint driving all the way up to Georgia in order to save $100 on a 360. (Which is about what I would spend on gas anyways...)
DiahrreaMan @ Nov 15th 2006 6:37PM
Getting so worked up about a rebate is insane. No need to hate, or bring up other consoles when it only deals with the 360. Its irrelevant news for me, but for someone considering buying one, its great news. So, leave the fanboy wars for another thread, thanks.
STILL WAITING FOR GOLDEN SUN 3 DAMMIT!
NoHitHair @ Nov 16th 2006 3:22AM
You guys should really keep up on deals better. I personally thought the Outpost.com one about a month ago that included a Premium Xbox360, Dead Rising, Just Cause and Test Drive: Unlimited for about $360 (with free shipping) was a better deal than this one.
This is certainly not the first time a retailer has decided to lower the 360's price by $100 and many did not require mail-in rebates.
houstonmat @ Nov 27th 2006 4:27PM
Well here's a little (more) advice based on experience. Microcenter is an awesome boutique store for the PC enthusiast. But I would never put them on my list for console games, let alone the consoles themselves, simply because their head-to-head pricing on THOSE ITEMS cannot usually beat Fry's or even Best Buy. But if you want a modular 550 watt power supply or a micro ATX case or a PCMCIA multi memory card reader you can't beat MC. HOWEVER...last December they were offering an awesome deal on LCD HD televisions. On a whim I purchased one and to this day could not be happier with my decision. The problem was that despite my STRICT attention to detail, my rebate (almost $400) took SIX MONTHS TO ARRIVE. That's a little odd, and the kind of thing that makes rebates not worth it...unless you don't mind the wait.
New 360 owner. @ Nov 25th 2006 9:36AM
I jumped all over this one. The nearest Micro Center is over 1.5 hours away from where I live, but most of the trip is along major highways without a lot of traffic, so it isn't that bad. I got the premium setup. I figured I'd be getting the hard drive anyway, and that costs $100, plus I get the headset, the XBox Live trial offers and the wireless controller that you don't get with the Core system. For $50 more than the price of a vastly inferior Wii, I get a much better system, and with the money I save over a PS3, I may end up getting a Wii anyway. 360 and Wii are going push PS3 right out of the market this time around, and that's coming from not an MS or Nintendo Fanboy, but someone who wanted a PS3 before they added so much unnecessary crap and drove the price up. In fact, I was kind of pissed off at MS and vowed a 360 would never enter my house. Sony did everything they could to screw up the PS3 launch that they just completely turned me off to them.
Scorio @ Nov 27th 2006 6:07PM
You all need to stop arguing, it's a deal that some people may want. All three systems have experienced problems from the ps3 and 360's red light of doom to the Wii's 110213 error and disc loading jams. All prolems have had possible consequences of death for your system so no one really has the upper hand in ther perspective. It's up to the individual to decide for themself so stop imposing your fanboy crap on everyone else.
