Gears of War credit roll "a hip-hop fart to the face"
81
Game|Life dug up a real gem of quote describing the Gears of War credit roll: "It's like saving the world, and being rewarded with a 'hip-hop' fart to the face."
Sounds like an amateur hip-hop fart: predictable beats, cheesy scratching, and in-game samples that never should have been sampled.

God, I hate hip-hop. Its infection in the game community is a bane to decent soundtracks and intelligence alike.

I think "Game|Life" is missing the point that this is supposed to be a cheesy tongue in cheek gag, kind of like those mid-nineties movies that do the same thing.

Wow, that was pretty bad. But Cole is the man, even if he is the stereotypical black dude in GeOW.

umm.. the guys at Epic used outtakes from the guy who plays Cole (some american Football player) to make that track... as a joke... way to ruin everything

A negative article eh? How did I know without even looking that this was done by Blake Snow. God, him and Col should form their own website. Combining idiocy and self importance masa and mune style to form an even more bloated mass drivel that proves exactly why bloggers are not the same as journalists.
I thought it was funny as hell. It is meant to be cheesy and lo quality. That's the whole point.

COLE TRAIN IS A SMOOTH RIDE BABY!
Still, this is continuing the flawless Joystiq run of aggravating 'controversial' articles designed to draw in hits on the site.
The remix wasn't supposed to be serious, it doesn't take 3 years of working in the game journalism field to realise that.
God.

i thought it was hilarious, and wanted to know where to download it.
and i didn't exactly get the "It's like saving the world" feeling considering gears only clocked in at a little over 10 hours, and that was taking my time.
maybe if it was at the end of a 50 hour game i would feel robbed...
Imagine that type of shit at the end of a FF game. LMFAO

Ugh. Don't even compare this to real hip-hop. This is just mindless sampling laid over a mindless beat. Way to ruin the mood. Imagine if Final Fantasy XIII ended in a similar way.
Womp womp.

Is this seriously the end CREDITS of the game? Like if I would beat this game, this would play?
If so...I have lost ALL respect for this game!

Y'know, I felt like that when I played Street Fighter III Third Strike. When I realized they replaced the excellent soundtrack from the other games in the series with unlistenable hiphop. Other than the intro song... the rest of the music simply sucked.

Geeze people, as many have said, it's meant to be humorous and Cole is freakin' hilarious. I love all his lines.
Especially when he belts one out just before getting killed and I have to revive him.

see, the problem with "hip hop" starts with its name. i like how the old folk call hippity hop, totally sums it up. i used to listen to hip hop, back when it was new and didn't sound EXACTLY the same as every other song. BUT, this college rock BS is the same way. everyone screams now. it all sucks. underground is the way to go.

Oh yeah, it was supposed to be a cheesy and crappy ending. Riiight. If this was any PS3 game, the same people that are defending Gears of War would be ripping it apart. Gotta love the fanboys.
Posted: Nov 15th 2006 2:01PM (Unverified) said
Don't bother mentioning the ending CG that plays before the credits... you know because the bad guy dies and instantly the credits roll. There is a clip in between those two points to kind of give an actual ending.

I feel sorry for the idiots who don't get the joke. Maybe PLAYING the game would actually let you realize how funny, and maybe even appropriate, this was.
Posted: Nov 15th 2006 2:01PM (Unverified) said
I think it's kind of funny. I don't think it's supposed to be taken seriously, from the simple fact that it only is Cole's lines that are used. He is very sterotypical, but I love his character. And by the way....this really isn't hip-hop. It's more dance or techno.

hahahaha I beat the game but never bothered to turn up my stereo for this, it is ALL COLE!! Thats good stuff. If you've never played this game, than please, STFU for you do not understand. It's like an INSIDE JOKE you will never get, because your all haters. Its funny.
Posted: Nov 15th 2006 2:04PM (Unverified) said
It's highly repetitive, has no melody, is highly forgettable, and has the prerequisite language necessary to get the parental advisory warning that kids are programmed to require before admitting they like a song. In other words, it's typical hip-hop. I hope the rest of the audio in the game was music.

here we have an awesome commercial for Gears featuring 'Mad World' and now we have 'Stand up, throw down'? (I'll assume that's the title?????.) It's pure genius lol, I gotta get me one of those CDs =p
Daummnn! lol.
Daummnn! lol.

It's a great game... but yeah... they're right. That tune totally sucks.
Posted: Nov 15th 2006 6:59PM (Unverified) said
For those of you who haven't played or beat the game this "song" is only activated if you roll the credits for a second time (further reinforcing the joke). The first time it rolls the credits displaying headshots of the epic team there is orchestral music.
Posted: Nov 15th 2006 2:07PM (Unverified) said
I didn't even watch the credits... just the ending sequence and then skipped back to the menus to get started on the hardcore difficulty when this part started rolling.
Those of you who haven't played the game need to relax a little bit and realize you don't have the right context to be dropping judgement.
All aboard the Cole Train... amen.

Yeah this is pretty sweet. Cole was hilarious in the game from what I played. The game itself actually has a pretty fantastic orchestral score when you're playing.

Cole is modeled after Terrible Terry Tate (Office linebacker). Have you guys never seen the Reebok ads? If not, do a quick google search for Terry Tate and download the ads. They are the greatest things since sliced bread.

Wow, you think music in credits suck, thnx for the info. I found that to be really funny, it totally doesnt't fit to the game which makes it fit even more!
Posted: Nov 15th 2006 2:14PM (Unverified) said
The game itself has a great cinematic soundtrack, no hip-hop, rock or techno or anything of the sort. Only the ending track is like this and it was meant to be funny by using the outtakes from the Cole character. As hard as people are trying to put a negative spin on this game it is a 10 in my book. Game|Life need to get a life!

Wow, just wow. There is a CG ending to the game. After that the credits roll with normal music and then after awhile, to keep you watching the credits and reading the quotes by the team...they toss in an easteregg of sorts and ppl bitch. For those unaware, Cole is voice acted by the guy that played the role of Terry Tate Office Linebacker for Reebok commercials. Go grab those videos off YouTube, watch em, now listen to the song and its just comedy imo. I sat through the whole credit list with my co-op partner and laughed like hell. How many of you actually read the credits anyhow???? I see this as no different than the Deckard Cain Rap that Blizzard put out awhile back and everyone loved it.

I'm with #2... it's a gag for all the movies featuring a rapper as an actor in the film with a crap-ass cheez rap at the end of the film in the credits.. sometimes it even makes it on the bleeding soundtrack.
Posted: Nov 15th 2006 2:23PM (Unverified) said
Is this the ending music? I beat the game and I honestly can't even remember this ....
Posted: Nov 15th 2006 2:24PM (Unverified) said
FYI the credit roll is accessible from the main menu. You don't have to beat the game to watch it.

You don't have to beat the game to hear this. Just go to the options screen and then to the credits link.

Blake Snow.... You will always stay as a blogger, for an article like this you would of been fired on any editorial publication, before you post anything do a teral research, Eliza Gauger is the one that posted that article in GAMELIFE, for you information MRS. Gauger is a 51 year old woman.
Now tell me how are You going to take in to contex what a 51 year old Grandma says about any kind of music in any type of VideoGame. A song from Frank Sinatra would be more of her taste.
Get your shit together Mr. Snow

I found another great quote in that blog's comments:
"Anyone saying things like, "soo much for a great game" is retarded. If the music during the closing credits ruins a game for you then you're too sensitive to live."

The Train's at home on the rails! Woo, yeah baby!
Man, Cole rocked. Everything he said was funny. I liked when Baird was talking about how the people in that shanty town realized he used to play ball. "Oh, loved you in the game, Train! Ooh, sign my jersey, Cole!"

THIS goofy little part of the credit roll is the part of the ending you had issue with?
How about the fact that there is NO plotline resolution? Hm? How 'bout that shit? Hell, they didn't even resolve the various SUB PLOTS they hinted at throughout the thing.
Gears of War. The best example of developers forgetting to include a full storyline in a game since Devil May Cry 2.
