Amen to that. Games are about having fun, and I think it's high time to remember that and just PLAY! :D

I agree. It doesn't matter what game it is. If it scores high or receives critical praise, people from all over starting bashing it because of this or that. WoW, GoW and Halo 2 come to mind very fast. WoW is the best example of people ruining a game by complaining. Just take a trip to their forums and hang around for a bit. You see what I mean real quick.

He forgot to list the type of gamer that complains you have to press A to read the signs.

They don't ruin anything if you don't READ them.

Well... games with many classes like WoW are certainly unbalanced and the complainers have helped to improve the game. There's a big difference between annoying childish complainers and "critical" complianers.

Besides... those hunters really need some nerfing... and rogues need to stop being nerfed... oh man. I'm glad I don't play WoW anymore.

Kyou: The problem is that 'critical' complainers are in short supply and often put their complaints in such negative terms it's difficult to seperate opinion from fact. The sort of gamers that take the time to post on message boards to complain often are so invested in the game, that they take any flaws quite personally and as such are full of indignation when they make their complaints. It's pretty discouraging to read negative complaints day after day.
Also, FuzzyPickles: I laughed. And then I wrote a critical analysis of Joystiq's commentary:

This problem exists wherever fans and critics congregate, but it's more common with MMORPGs, because they're designed to keep you hungry, forever wanting more. Unlike in most games, many MMO players have a difficult time getting away from the game, even if they hate it with a passion.

So what's a miserable addict to do? Make everyone else around him miserable, of course! I know this problem well, because I've been there. I've been that incessant complainer, pining away for an idealized game experience I would never get, and yet I kept playing. And when I finally got some sense and quit, I looked at my friends and saw the same behavior. All that negativity. That's *having fun*? It's like a codependent relationship with a videogame!

If someone you know is like this, tell them there are better ways to have fun and socialize. And if they don't believe that, then they've obviously been playing way too long to remember that there's a world outside of their MMO of choice, and it's all the more important for them to rediscover their options.

I really had no problem with Vlad talking about problems he had with Zelda's graphics. In fact, frankly, I'm glad he did. There is no such thing as a perfect game. And as I perused the Internets and found nothing but compliments, I was worried that my expectations for the game would be out of control. I feared that if people were just writing good things about Zelda, perhaps a lot of sites like IGN were afraid to critique the title. Forget about how there is no such thing as a perfect game. A movie critic needs to say what aspects of their favorite movie of the year messed up. They could stress that everyone should see it, but still explain every aspect of the movie, good and bad. But I think Gabe summed it up pretty well in his post.

Yes, the new Zelda has outdated graphics. But despite this the gameplay is so incredible that it outshines this minor issue. That's how a review should be written. I think it makes a product look better by saying "This...is so great that the only problems I could find were really minor things like...", instead of saying "This...has no problems whatsover, and there's no possible way that it could ever get better." Because comments like that take away the legitimacy of a review. And sure enough despite outdated graphics, with it's 5 reviews so far, Twilight Princess is the HIGHEST RATED GAME OF ALL TIME. http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/928519.asp
