PS3 & Wii video converters now available
Red Kawa has released a pair of freeware video converters to transcode your video files for use on PlayStation 3 and Wii. Both PS3 Video 9 and Wii Video 9 are based on PSP Video 9's GUI, with a number of key improvements. These applications can also be integrated with Videora to automatically create PS3- and Wii-compatible content from BitTorrent and RSS feeds. As with Xbox 360, getting your PC's video files to run on PS3 and Wii is gonna be tedious -- so get started now. At least the good folks at Red Kawa are making the process free. (Of course, donations are always welcome.)
[Thanks, John]

When I first saw the headline, I thought, "Great, now I can preorder a Wii S-Video cable and have it on Wii Day." Then I saw what it was really about. Anyone have better luck than me finding a non-composite answer for Day 1? It won't be a problem for PS3, since that uses the PS2 cables, but the Wii has a new plug.

The Tip link is just above the "powered by blogsmith" link.

Much more simple buy a dvd-player compatible with divx/xvid codec. Works great, with subtitles etc. Philips, LG, Toshiba have good solutions.

I use PSP Video 9, it's good stuff. Glad to see something like it is available for when I get a Wii.

Does these mean I can watch episodes of my fav programs on the Wii?

mmm and i thought that just using the TV out of ur pc's gfx card was a good enough idea to watch episodes etc on the living room.. what was i thinking! the best way is to buy a console and steam from the pc to the console and from the console to the TV it just sounds so much simpler, how did i not think of it before! (sarcasm btw)

Or just wait for linux and mplayer/vlc/whatever on PS3... no conversion necessary. Full network (windos/linux/mac) interoperability (streaming/network mounted shares) available.
Sounds easier to me.

I'm going to assume that there's not going to be a Mac version of this?

Has anyone at Joystiq tested this program out? Are you able to convert a Divx movie and then transfer it to the Wii via SD card? Would you then watch it through the photo channel? Will it fill the screen?
hilker @ Nov 15th 2006 2:20PM
Nintendo_Fanboy, a composite cable is included with the Wii. Component is not.

Tried converting some DIVX TV episodes on Wii Video9, and although encoding was fast, they looked TERRIBLE. As for the PS3 converter, there are several settings you can change, but not on the Wii converter. Think I'll drop the $30 on AVS Video Tools, which is capable of much higher resolutions.
