While browsing the LucasArts store yesterday, I noticed a new collection that brought back fond memories of the
LucasArts Archives from ten years ago.
Star Wars: The Best of PC will be available starting next Tuesday (11/21), and will include the following titles:
- Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (2002)
- Knights of the Old Republic (2003)
- Battlefront (2004)
- Republic Commando (2005)
- Empire at War (2006)
- Star Wars Galaxies 14-day trial
Hardcore Star Wars fans may scoff at the "
Best of" title when classics such as
Tie Fighter,
Rogue Squadron, and
Shadows of the Empire are absent from the box. But this isn't a bad assortment at $40, and it offers a little bit of everything for PC gamers on your holiday shopping list who enjoy different genres. How many of you plan on picking this up, either for yourself or someone else?

In a local electronic store they sell Stars Wars Rogue Leader II and III, brand new, in 15 dlls each... this games have very good review, and have good graphics, but... Rogue Leader still look good this days???
AirIntake @ Nov 15th 2006 12:59PM
What? No Rebel Assault? LQ FMV FTW!
T_ConX @ Nov 15th 2006 1:05PM
Wow, Five awesome games, and the crap-tacular Star Wars Galaxies!
It's just there to make the other game look awesome...
darko82 @ Nov 15th 2006 1:07PM
If you don't already own these games, $40 is a good price to get Battlefront, KoTOR, and Empire at War. Jedi Knight II wasn't that bad either, although I preferred Jedi Academy. It's about time they did a new compilation. It's been nine years since the last Archive collection came out.
mugginns @ Nov 15th 2006 1:20PM
Battlefront and empire at war were EH, but x-wing vs tie fighter or any of the other space sim games needed at least one representative here. I can't believe they'd leave that out.
can't go wrong with JK2 and KOTOR, though.

Shadows of the Empire was a classic!?
grimjoe @ Nov 15th 2006 1:17PM
Shadows of the Empire was first on the N64, prob why its not included on the "The Best Of PC"
GlitchCog @ Nov 16th 2006 8:40AM
How about some Dark Forces?
obi-wan @ Nov 15th 2006 1:22PM
Shadows came out for the PC, but the N64 version was better.

They forgot Yoda Stories.
LOL
Saneless @ Nov 15th 2006 1:34PM
wtf, they don't even bother with Jedi Knight 1 and 3?
And with the earlier ship fighters gone.. bleh
crono141 @ Nov 15th 2006 1:34PM
X-Wing alliance should be on here. Its been almost 7 years since a decent X-wing combat sim was released. They need another. I can only giggle like a giddy schoolgirl at the thought of "next-gen" treatment on a space combat sim based on Star Wars.
Delicious...
Wedge @ Nov 15th 2006 2:06PM
Yoda Stories was awesome. That's all I have to say about that.
Ronald Stepp @ Nov 15th 2006 2:07PM
X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter will be present on the soon (heh) to be released "Even Better Star Wars PC Games on the PC"
ZedGuru @ Nov 15th 2006 2:35PM
Star Wars Episode 1: Racer FTW!!1!
Mike @ Nov 15th 2006 2:32PM
I liked Dark Forces and JK1 (technically dark forces 2) better than the later revs. And same with Tie Fighter. But I can see why they were left off the list. They flat-out look like ass compared to any modern title.
And Yoda Stories and Indy Jones' desktop adventures would have been absolutely OK if they had smooth scrolling, animation and decent combat. I liked the graphics and premise of random adventures. It was the choppiness which sucked.
Dextro @ Nov 15th 2006 3:39PM
Ok so when is this due? I rather spend the night in front of a store for this than a PS3 hehe :P
stew400523 @ Nov 15th 2006 3:45PM
I wish that they would have included Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire. If they would have included that I'd get it
Beano @ Nov 15th 2006 4:15PM
X-Wing alliance was pure gold. Loved all the X-wing/Tie-fighter games but Alliance was the best. Both Dark Forces and Jedi Knight 1 where also great.
Rebellion on the other hand was the biggest pile of manure that Lucasarts ever released.
darko82 @ Nov 15th 2006 4:26PM
I agree, Rebellion along with Force Commander, Galactic Battlegrounds, and Masters of Teras Kasi, were probably the worst SW games ever.
It would be cool if they came out with a 90s mega collection. I would like to see X-Wing, Tie-Fighter, Rebel Assault 1&2, Dark Forces 1&2, Rogue Squadron, Shadows of the Empire, and Episode 1 Racer. That's a lot of games, but they're old and don't take up nearly as much disc space as today's games. You could pack 'em on to a DVD or two.
redzoo @ Nov 15th 2006 9:28PM
X-Wing Alliance is being re-released at the same time according to the major retailer I work for, hence the lack of X-Wing/TIE Fighter games in this pack. Sam & Max, Monkey Island, The Dig and a few others are also due for re-release at the same time according to our system but I have no idea if they run under XP/Vista as they haven't turned up yet.
4ham @ Nov 30th 2006 2:14PM
I can understand why a lot of the older games weren't included might be because of compatibility issues with XP and newer hardware. Going back to update code, and possibly update graphics would've added to MSRP.
I don't see why Jedi Academy wasn't included, it was better then Jedi Outcast.
But still I lament, Republic Command greatest of all Sci-Fi Squad Based shooters still has no sequel! My Deltas still have some doors to breach!
Daniel Waghorn @ Dec 12th 2006 11:37AM
Hey I really like star wars racer but I'm running it on W2K but it is not saving my progress! :( Can anyone help???
