I hate the lower end 20gig bundle, and the 360 core bundle.

Premium or nothing, If im spending over 500 on a console, 100 extra isnt gunna hurt for the added features.

Plus Wifi is always nice, and 40gigs is a lot of good HDTV space.

Still, PS3 is too much for me to handle, I already have a 360 and want to get a Wii and a $3000 HDTV. Ive got enough on my mind already.

But to answer the question conclusivly, premium is my choice.

Most likely the 60 gigga if and when I get a new HDTV. Pretty pointless running a PS3 (or any next-gen console) on a standard-res TV.

If I actually had a choice I would get the 60 gig version, just to sell to some loser on the street 5 minutes after I get it.

I'm going to scoot over to Meijers tomorrow at 3 p.m and see what is going on.

I think only peoople like Warren Buffet and Gates can conclude that money is no object.

I think their asking for more leginimate reasons than, I'm rich. Do you really need the 40 gig of space? Would you hold off on a PS3 if you waited in line and ended up with only a 20gig as a model, I think that befits the question better.

Though, as a side-note, the 20GB is more aesthetically pleasing to me. The chrome ruins it.

Probelly the 60GB.

But the 20Gb isn't half bad since you can upgrade the HDD, and not too many people use Wi-Fi and you can use a Memory stick adapter.

I don't like the silver trim, and I wish both were semi-gloss to leave no fingerprint residue. I can add Wifi via USB if supported (and compatible with the PSP), not to mention I could upgrade the 20GB hard drive the day I get it.

$500 for me.

Why can't the Xbox 360 premium just come with wireless???

Anyway, assuming I end up getting a PS3, I will get the 60gb purely for the built-in wireless because the linksys wireless adapter i got for current-gen really is bad and i only want a console that has it built-in because in my mind that is a better guarantee that it will work. So yeah the 60gb, but if the 360 had wireless inside i would just get one of them.

I'm going with the 20GB version. I would have gone with the 60GB version but Sony announced that the 20GB would also have HDMI outputs. Hard drive capacity and wireless capabilities doesn't concern me. My brother and I have already planned to replace the hard drive with one with a larger capacity. The only thing that worries me is the lack of a card reader.

How about getting the $500 version and spending the extra $100 on a hard drive upgrade?

That's only if you don't care about the wifi or card reader, which I don't. For $100 you can get an 80gb 7200rpm drive, or for $90 you can get a 120gb 5400rpm drive.

All of my networked HT devices are hooked up via ethernet to a linksys WRT54GL doing wireless bridging with the main AP. Means I never have to pay the console wireless tax, and anything without wireless support will work just fine, too.

Plus, it means fewer wifi devices hitting my AP, giving better throughput overall.

This is not the same as the choice between the Core and Pro Xbox 360. This isn't hard drive or no hard drive here.

I'm about 50/50, personally. The only reason I'd probably bother with the 60GB model is the wi-fi, which can't be upgraded on the 20GB model. The hard drive can be, though, and hard drives are cheap and getting cheaper all the time (unlike the 360, the PS3 just uses a standard 2.5" drive). I'd probably end up just upgrading the 60GB hard drive eventually anyway - pretty easy and cheap to just stick a 120GB drive in there. Given that, I'd actually come out ahead with the 20GB model... meaning I'd really be paying at least $100 just for wi-fi. Is wi-fi worth that much? Wi-fi cards sure go for a lot less than that, and I've got my router right next to my TV anyway.

I also think the 20GB model looks better. Chromed plastic is just tacky.

The more I write about it, the more convinced I am that the 20GB is the way to go. The only other feature the 60GB model has over the 20GB is the memory slots... am I really gonna use that? I dunno, maybe if I can use it for transferring game saves to a PC... that might put the 60GB over the top for me.

20GB FTW! I've no need for wi-fi as long as there's an empty ethernet jack on the switch (connected to my Airport Express) that my 360 and TiVo use to access the Internet. I've already purchased an OEM 100GB Toshiba HD from New Egg that's going in my PS3 the second I get it on Friday morning.

BTW, early word from Japanese buyers who've run tests is that there is little to no performance difference between 5400rpm HDs and 7200rpm HDs, but that cache size makes a significant difference. The 60GB PS3 has a drive with an 8MB cache, but the 20GB only has a 2MB cache! The Toshiba drive I bought has a 16MB cache. It's the only 2.5" HD with a 16MB cache that New Egg sells, and I expect there will be quite a run for it among PS3 buyers (it's $95 including three-day shipping--but as is always the case when I select New Egg's three-day option, I received it less than 48 hours after it shipped!).

Ouch, never thought about it actually. Mainly because I don't believe in spending that much money on a form of entertainment.

So assets for 100$+: (in order of most wanted)
Wifi
40GB extra
Card reader centraaaal...

Well, wi-fi would definitely be an asset for my home, as I'll be no where near a cable modem for that... but in my predicament, I'm leaving for college in less than a year, where the dorms are wired! Who would need wifi?

40GB, that would be nice, but #1 I don't think I'd be buying a whole lotta games to save stuff on it. Plus I would really have no other use for it.

Card Readers! Those would be rather nice. I don't have a decent card reading hub. I can get SD Cards (which are primary with me) to connect through USB though. Plus, I could just buy a card reader thing with USB connectivity and I'd be fine. Pretty darn useless, unless you completely don't want to touch your computer in the whole memory deal.

So really, 20GB sounds like the way to go. I don't give if theres a difference in graphic power... it'd all run on a non-HD tv. From what I've heard, if you don't have an HD-TV, this thing is pretty disgusting looking.

BUT SCREW ALL THIS, y'know. I'm getting a Wii. Go poor people. I'll have just as much fun even though I'd love a PS3.

I think neither is a valid option. Right now, I'm really torn because of the cost. I've owned several Playstations, and I have a PSP. All were obtained on launch day. This time around, I just don't see myself plunking down that kind of money on launch day. I don't have a HDTV, so I'm not rationalizing the cost by saying I'm also getting a Blu-Ray movie player. To fully enjoy that option, I'm also looking at having to buy a new TV. It's just too much at one time.

Hopefully a friend of mine will pick one up and I'll be able to play his PS3.

For the time being, I'm going to take a wait and see approach. When it inevitably comes down in price, I'll probably pick one up. I guess I'm content with what I have right now and will continue to use that.

#31 how do you have an HDTV that DOESN'T support 720p?

If it doesn't support 720p its not an HDTV.

If your TV cant do 720p then its just an EDTV or SDTV not an HDTV.

I'm still working with a 36 inch sony SDTV in my apartment at the moment but i'm still getting one.

and yes i have a 360 and plan on getting a Wii too.

As for which one, i'm getting the 60gb model, since thats what i have reserved at EB.

Well Ritz... judging from experience, if someone wants something, they're not going to take a replacement if its different from what they want.

IF someone wants a PS3... they'll get one, otherwise they'd either already have bought a 360/Wii, or they would be buying one and thus the PS3 wouldnt be in the equation.

I mean for instance if i go to a store and have been wanting Gears of War... and they dont have it. I'm not going to walk out with Viva Pinata instead. Ya know?

#39 - Alot of older HDTV's are only capable of 480i/480p/1080i. Tell the PS3 that your TV doesn't support 720p, and it will down convert to 480p. Nice to find this out 2 days before launch.

Otherwise then it'll be a tough choice to not get the 60gig version. Tho the 60gig is tempting... so is the extra $100 rofl.
