In a side note, I think I'm gonna start watching the auctions, waiting for the market to flood, then buy one off ebay, to flip later on on ebay.

Best Bundle Eva!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe Sony missed this Golden idea. The only thing that would make it better is if it came bundled with a Recliner and an endless supply of Mountaing Dew.

Do you think the winner will eat it?
The candy bar, not the game or system.

Well, shit.

I was going to skip over the launch of the PS3 - all that hassle for crappy launch titles? No thanks.

But you just know I have to go with the guy throwing in a Snickers bar.

All told, its positively brilliant. Even before getting his auction on Joystiq, how much extra attention you think he got because of the Snickers bar? I'd love it if the description included "If the auction goes over $5000, I'll upgrade to a KING-SIZE Snickers bar!!!!"

How long till eBay cancels the auction? Seeing as how you are not technically allowed sell food or drink's on eBay, it should be interesting.

Well, I don't necessarily see any harm with them posting this since if you look at the auction, nobody has yet posted a minimum bid of $1500 in the 40 minutes this blog has been online.

The Snickers is the only thing that satisfies in that bundle.

You should point the finger at the idiots who would shell out the money for these auctions, not Joystiq. They are the one's who allow this to happen.

yeah, hells yeah. Way better than the government owning everything. This is the land of Opportunity, and times like this is an opportunity to go 600 dollars in debt, turn it into 2000+ dollars, pay off your debt and half a student loan or credit card or something.

Thats what I would have done, Had I stood in line for one.

Crono, I suppose if you value money more than, you know, not being a dick, then by all means keep trumpeting how the current PS3 situation is a victory for capitalism.

To be fair, I don't have much against capitalism. I think its flaws are more just a reflection of humanity's flaws. And this situation is pretty indicative of one or more of those flaws.

You heard it here first; everyone who is involved in the stock market or any sort of activity that they profit from is a "dick".

Keep crying that you didn't get a PS3 Erec, but this is capitalism at it's finest. The market is self-adjusting to provide a limited supply (PS3s) to the people that want it the most (people willing to pay more than you).

Isacriote, I don't want a PS3. At all. I never even entertained the thought of buying one this year. Hell, I probably won't even entertain the thought of buying one next year.

Not surprisingly, you horribly misinterpreted my comments. I'm not necessarily against anyone being profittable. I'm against people doing next to nothing to earn a quick buck at the expense of other people. There are a lot of honest, not-filthy-rich people out there who would love to buy and play a PS3 but can't because of all the people who are buying them just to make a quick profit on eBay. You laud that as an achievement for capitalism.

Like I said, I don't have a problem with most profittable ventures. I don't have any problem with the stock market. I do have problems, though, with people like those that sell these PS3s on eBay, ticket scalpers (even licensed ones), land squatters, domain squatters, etc. In short, I have a problem with people who exploit the nature of capitalism at the expense of more honest folk in order to earn a quick buck from those willing to pay their price.

If you think that makes me an unreasonable idealist, a naive idiot, whatever.

One more thing, Isacriote. These PS3s aren't going to the people that want them the most. They are going to the people that can pay the most. There's a huge difference there.

The ironic thing is that those that can pay the most are often times in such a situation because they, too, have found exploitive ways to use capitalism to make a buck without any regards to other people they might affect. As a result, they're able to outspend anyone, which means that if others want to be able to compete with them in these situations for products they desire, they, too, often times have to find exploitive ways to make some money. It's really a disheartening cycle.

To me, that's capitalism at its worst. But like I said before, capitlism is no worse than the people who are involved in it. I think it's probably the best system given humanity's collective strengths and weaknesses. That doesn't make it, or us, infallible, though.

But I've ranted too much. I'd hate to be deported back to mother Russia.

Capitalism for teh Win!

All you pinko commie bastards can just go back to your third-world countries that you obviously idolize so much. If you really want to be pointing fingers, point them at Sony for creating such a false demand for their product by releasing when they only have a fraction of the units they needed.

You know, if the product in question was something necessitous to life, like food or shelter, then maybe I'd be able to agree with you.

But we're talking about a freaking video game console. It's deliberately for people who want to spend large amounts of money for entertainment. If you find it grossly unfair, spend your entertainment dollars elsewhere.

I mean, I'd love to get a yacht, but I don't whine because the rich people drove up the price of boats.

Awesome auction. If I felt like throwing money around, I'd bid on that one. Good luck to him.

And to Erec - not so much, Ebayers don't have a monopoly on PS3 units. If you wanted one and couldn't afford e-bay prices, you could have just stood in line earlier. If you didn't, you didn't want it enough, or at least as much as someone else wanted a couple hundred in profit.

The exception being if you had to work or else lose your job - but that applies just as much to someone who is now able to buy one off of ebay if he couldn't be in line.

Ebay is just one outlet, and variety is the best thing for the consumer in general here. Capitalism wins - it gives you more options.
