Ahhh, this is such a wonderful piece of art, this broken PS3. I wish I had been the one to smash it to bits, though.

Don't worry, though. Sony makes their PS3s so that they break all on their own within a few months, anyway.

Thanks for posting this, Joystiq!

NATO_Duke, as your nick expresses you are quite proud of the long-lasting friendship between America and Europe. :)

Being European myself I found that comment about the oh-so-decadent American culture quite inadequate myself, the same thing could happen over here as well.

On the other hand, there is not much to be jealous about for us when we look across the great pond. What could that be? Higher standard of living? Nope. Trustworthy and capable government? Scratch that. Better image throughout the world? Nah, not really ...

They're soooo anti-consumerism, yet they have Google AdSense plastered all over their site. More like hypocrites if you ask me. About the PS3 specifically, I don't really care since I'm personally not really interested in it.

Also, glad to see another America vs Europe dispute arising. This'll be a fun few hours.

I have no problem with Europe, a lot of my gaming team is European as my name would infer. My point wasn’t to slam Europe-but rather to slam the constant attack on those in the US. Hence "Seriously, you all come off so jealous when you do that." If you read my remark then you should see I am only talking about comments on our society and the way it makes people sound. I know a lot of my euro guys would agree, as they have expressed the same view as me. Of course, others have disagreed as well-which is quite fair too.

Your reply to me was to once more bash us. I don't think it was warranted at all.

I'll get it tomorrow or the day after. Whenever I get it won't change the fact that those guys are idiots. You like it? Great! I just think you should learn the meaning of your name before using it. ...People are giving them money to smash a game console. If he suddenly took that money and donated it to charity or something, those who donated would be pissed because the money they gave him wasn't used how they thought it would be. Same with him just selling the PS3 on eBay. Obviously, the donations would stop if they did something like that.

Stop saying "They should've done this and screwed over their loyal donators."

I really don't want to defend these guys too much, but..Couldn't everyone who have buys a PS3, or a Wii for that matter, spent their money better? At least half those people are going to auction it, and these people are acting like jackasses to sell more ad space. Everyone could be more charitable.

Actually, smashing a PS3 DOES hurt Sony. Remember, on every PS3 they crank out, Sony is losing a good chunk of change. As they operate on the razor/razor-blade model, they're hoping to recoup that on games and accessories. Taking the hammer to it keeps them from doing so."

Actuallly Sony just got a lot of publicity for the paltry difference between the the cost to produce the smashed unit and what they sold it for. And remember, there really is no such thing as bad publicity

I can't wait to see SmashMyWii only to see what's inside of it and how if it holds to the standards that the Gamecube had which could be drug down the street by a truck and still work just perfectly. Very true. We all have our entertainment dollars to spend one way or the other. But there is value in the PS3 in the short term....maybe better to buy this one..sell it on Ebay...donate the profits...then buy another one and then smash that one...lol

For any PS3 fan who is outraged or upset...were you this upset when the 360 got smashed by a similar group last year? lol

Well I had a friend video tape me smash the puppy right in front of his family. Their reaction was priceless! Anyone who is against this has some kind of mental defficiency. The VERY SAME defficiency that would cause people to quit their jobs and run into poles and shoot people, and ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE SHOT BY WITHOLDING THE MONEY over a CONSOLE....A CONSOLE.....worth taking a bullet for? Yeah these ppl must really love Resistance...and...oh yeah there are no other games...

so when someone points it out and says YOU'RE ALL FUCKING RETARDED FOR RISKING RUINING YOUR LIVES TO GET A CONSOLE AT LAUNCH instead of waiting 6 months or whatever like SANE people...or buying a 360 for most of the same games (without the kiss of hot lead waiting in line)...
Maybe it will sink in that these people are wasting their lives. No matter how much you love this thing, what a waste of life. With ~80-90 years on this planet (if you're lucky) you're going to waste 2 days literally watching the sidewalk erode, maybe you should reevaluate your priorities. It's a fucking game.

" 22. Assholes. It's awesome that our society has reached a point where we are so gluttonous that people take pleasure from the wanton destruction of valued goods. How bout taking those donations and using the money to help your fellow man instead of flushing it away. "

Valued...it's that whole "One man's junk is another man's treasure." To me, the PS3 has no value at all. Maybe in a year when they work out all the bugs maybe, but definately not now. Not to mention the ridiculousness of the vultures, I mean people, who line up for hours and days on end to make a buck.

Which leads me to your statement of "How bout taking those donations and using the money to help your fellow man instead of flushing it away." Yeah, right on! Take that $650 and help someone who quit their job to stand in line for 2 weeks to get a PS3. Because that unemployed person won't have a home to play their PS3 in, food to eat, gas for their car...but damn, they have a PS3 and someone taking donations for them until they get processed into the system and collect their unemployment check. Or better still, the 90% plus people standing in line, beating people up, robbing stores and such to make 3x or more their money back. Hey Smash people, you should be ashamed of not ripping people off. Beating them. Trampling others. ... ... ...

I must say, after having lived in both Europe (In Guildford, outside of London) and America, I find it difficult to understand why anyone would try and claim superiority over the other.

In my experience, at least, Europeans and Americans are very much the same. What you seem to be describing as the "typical American" is not someone most Americans would even begin to accept as one of their own.

What if I was to say that the "typical European" is the drunkard, who stands around in the liquor store all day? It would be blatantly wrong, and insults those who choose to believe in the greatness of their own nation.

What you are describing as "America" is not truly America at all; to me, America is less of a place and more of an ideal. You aren't an American unless you choose to follow that ideal.

Say what you will, but there is a moral nature in America; a nature that I refuse to let die, despite insistance for the power of the "personal right" in comparison to "Personal responsibility".

But whatever. I suppose it was pretty cool watching a PS3 get blown to hell.
