It only means the Sony fanboys are more blind than those of X360.

Well, it would appear the future PS3 buyers need to save more of enough dough for the most expensive nex-gen console of the bunch, not to mention the most scarce of the 3.

Also, the question was to purchase the PS3. There didn't appear to be a follwup question of whether or not those buyers would keep it to play or resell it on ebay for profits

All issues aside, altho all 3 groups are loyal, the PS clan does give the vibes of being the most fanatical.

You can be loyal to a brand only if it doesn't change its core values and $ony seems to have lost it somewhere. No longer there is trust in quality. Can't trust what executives say.

I think it's more like brand stupidity. Sony has made some great products but not everything Sony makes are great. For example, their portable MP3 players, Sony universal remotes, Sony/Ericcson phones, etc.

I love how there's no mention of what games each system is going to have. Loyalty truly is blind if people say they'll buy a particular system simply because they owned hardware from the previous generation by the same manufacturer. That loyalty is going to change pretty damn fast depending on which console starts getting the best games.

Thing is, how many of these owners have been paying attention?
I think there was a survey earlier this week that said that something like 65% of people who were planning to buy a PS3 thought it would be between $200-300. I'm probably wrong on the figures somewhere, but you get the idea.

Maybe it's because 48% of those considering a PS3 think it cost less than $300 and do not know the actual price tag.

This sounds like a BS survey if you ask me. For each console, it say less than 50%(for each) were going to buy the next-gen of their favorite console. Don't think that number would be that low...

I know i for one am loyal to the Sony brand because they have always mantained a steady release of first and third party titles accross a wide spectrum of game types. Whereas most of the Xbox360 games are shooters i long for something different everyonce in a while.

Parappa The Rappa
Ico
Shadow Of The Collussus
Rez
Guitaroo Man
Katamari Damacy
Loco Roco

I like to laugh every once in a while too.

Now this isnt saying that Microsoft wont be getting its share of wacky titles, But they usually get more americanized games shooters, racing games.

To DNC:

As far as being loyal to Sony for quality reasons anyone who owns a ps2 would probably tell you that Sony's products are not always up to snuff. The thought that they lost trust in quality when there never was quality is wrong - IMO

Anyway competition is good for all three consoles as it drives the game quality up to try and sell the unit.

End result - everyone benefits from some truly great games in the future from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.

I'll give it to Sony. They do have good name recognition and customer loyalty. And in all fairness...they have gotten what they wanted....a frenzy over their console. Now the key is...when are the next shipments coming in? This should be their top priority and getting that info out to their fans. If any negativity or hardware issues begin to really show or there are no units to buy as Christmas approaches....that loyalty will be tested

This is so disappointing. I remember the good old days when you count on the Nintendo fans being the most stupidly loyal no matter what.

Of course then we got the N64 shoved up our backsides sideways.

I'll bet this time around those numbers will change this time around. I don't think that the ps3 is going to pull of as much sales as the ps2, but the ps3 will sell loads. All systems do.

In other news, LoZ TP got a perfect score at GameInformer.com

"Out of that bunch, only 28% of PS2 owners appear to be in the market for a new console compared to 55% of Xbox owners and 54% of GameCube owners."

This couldn't possibly be because out of all 3 systems, PS2 is the only one that will actually have any decent games coming in the next year, could it? In Sony's case, it actually helps them, as they'll make far more money from the PS2 than they will from PS3 for the next few years.

Nintendo is at least throwing GC owners a bone with Zelda. MS acts like Xbox is their gay son & doesn't want anything to do with it.

So basically confirms what we all know, Sony fanboys are the most biased and narrow minded of the lot (somethings got to explain the take up of the horrible PS2, pre killer apps and tonnes of games).

I definitely think most Nintendo or Xbox/360 owners are open to buying other brands (I own GameCube, DS, GBA, Xbox 360 and did own a PS1 years ago). Wheras most of those wanting PS3s are oblivious to the other systems plus points and twist everything to make themselves feel good about their intended (flawed) purchase.

What they don't realise is that a lot of US are just as open minded to the PS3 once it PROOVES itself as more than an overpriced media playback device with a console stuck on for good measure. Our problem is with Sony not the buyers of PS3s, we are just loud about it because they tirelessly defend Sony for no apparent good reason other than "cool brand image".

Brand loyalty has nothing to do with blindness baffoons, heres the deal:

I bought a PS1, no reason, just wanted a console and it was new to the market, could have gone Nintendo, but I chose Sony, so what?

I loved the games and everything I had on PS1, then PS2 hit the world, I could play my PS1 games, use all my PS1 stuff and be happy, I never switched becuase Xbox sucked hardcore balls at that time and Nintendo just wasn't for me.

I'm going PS3 becuase again, I can use all my stuff for PS2, wtf reason on this whole wide planet do I have for buying a 360, unless its price like you dumb fanboys keep bashing on about, or games which are mostly completly bland, and perverted for all the nerdy gamers out their who would prefer to sit inside and get excited over a game instead of go out and face reality. So what? Bad press, if 360 got bad press would you suddenly ditch it, goes to show how quick you are to jump shift huh? I have always been happy with Sony products, I would have an Erricson with its memory stick any day then a Motorola or Nokia which is just a teenage excuse to look cool.

Stop bashing, get of the comps, go outside and have some fresh air, god you ppl need it, or serious couselling cos it baffles me how you can spend a majority of your lives online bashing a company like all others and a machine, thats like me going onto www.fridge.com and bashing new fridges coming out, how bloody sad is that?

Let's look at these numbers for a minute, though...

1725 consumers, 18% (310) said that they were likely to buy a new console in the next year - comparing with 28% of gamers.

That, to me, says that the consumer market isn't nearly as driven by the 'Buy what's new for games' as much as the gamer market - which is a no-brainer, but it's nice to have it confirmed.

Here's the interesting one: "42% of PlayStation 2 owners, 55% of Xbox owners and 54% of GameCube owners indicating they were likely to buy a new console"

That says that PS2 owners know their system is still out, and Xbox V1 owners know their system isn't.
You can still walk into any Wal-Mart today and buy a new PS2 - including in new colors. You can't do that with Xbox.

The point being - to paraphrase my wife, as I consider her to be an average consumer, versus myself as a gamer - "It's a game console. We have a house payment, a car payment, and one of our kids needs new glasses. And you're going to spend $400 / $600 on something new to play games, at $60 a piece for the games, when we've got bills to pay?"

Welcome to the average consumer thinking - and as nick pointed out above, most consumers don't realize that the PS3 is $600, since that's now more than the price of a computer where they get the tower AND monitor.

Hi, PS2 owner here. I'm getting a Wii, and perhaps an Xbox 360, but not PS3 very likely. I think that most PS2 owners are still in the stage of misguided loyalty due to their PS2s still delivering a great gameplay experience. Yet, Nintendo had the same kind of loyalty, and that's why the subpar Nintendo 64 saw sales of 35 million units. Super Nintendo owners were very sure they were going to get an N64, but in the end, most defected to the PlayStation. The Wii has just started to pick out steam, and it's still about a year from the position PlayStation had when it made its breakthrough. However, as a PlayStation owner, I'm confident that Wii will be the "next PlayStation".
