A small web survey of 1,700 online consumers (age 18 and older) concludes that the overall percentage of PlayStation 2 owners intensely favor Sony consoles when compared to Xbox and GameCube owners. 60% of PS2 owners surveyed loyally intend to purchase a PS3, 45% of current Xbox owners plan to buy a 360, and 46% of GameCube owners are looking to buy a Wii. However, the same study showed that only 18% of those surveyed (or 28% of active gamers) plan to buy a new console within the next year. Out of that bunch, only 28% of PS2 owners appear to be in the market for a new console compared to 55% of Xbox owners and 54% of GameCube owners. While we'd assume independence, it would be interesting to see if there is any correlation between said percentages and total number of current generation consoles out in the wild (111M PS2s, 24M Xboxs, 21M GCNs). Or if recent PS3 launch lines have more to do with limited availability or brand loyalty.
