Everytime I see some analysis sprouting out nonsense like "PS3 gonna win, wii will bomb", I think about back when almost every analysis said "PSP will own, DS will be Nintendo's final downfall" and I smile in the inside.

I Belive the wii will sell, but just for now, after the hype is over, I dont belive Nintendo is going to pull another NINTENDO DS here, the Wii main rivals are not the same as the DS witch it was the not so popular PSP, The wii this time around is fighting the big boys of MS AND SONY, and this time Sony wont go down as easy as it did with the PSP, this console means the whole companys future, so they will be spending big bucks on exclusivity and marketing , while what else can we say for microsoft, they are on the Golden chair right now, this time it wont happen like with the original xbox, witch was just a test tube to see and learn, this time around they will go down their DEEP pockets and make sure they buy alot of development houses to have exclusives just like they did with Rare and are planning on doing with capcom.

Nintendo will have a tough time next year just to keep up with the 360 and the PS3 when all Hardcore gamers have already made their purchases.

I'd love to know how you define "video game professional". Seems a pretty damn vague title.

I think the whole article is bull. Not that I'm dissing the support for the Wii, I state this simply because of the way the article seems to be very iffy all round.

Everytime i hear Wii FTW, i remember..

NES > 90% of marketshare ...

...~ 20 years later...

GC less than 15% of marketshare.

At this rate, Wii should clock in at 9% when all the fanbois have bought their Wiis.. but, it may go up to 11% when Nintendo releases the *NEW* WiiLite with fruity colours. You know you're gonna buy it.

I think the Wii is at such a low price point that it'll be an impulse buy for alot of people. It'll probably be everyones secondary console, something you wouldn't play as much but couldn't resist 'cause it was cheap enough to pick up.

The GameCube never had this kind of hype going for it. It was "PS2FTW!" and that was that. Things have changed since then.

I agree with the comments, the Wii will sell okay for five or so months and then when people realize it's just a slightly overclocked Gamecube with a gimmick controller they'll buy either the 360 or the PS3. Already it is blatantly obvious that the graphics in Wii are last gen, in a couple of years it will just be embarrasing.

The developers who are praising Wii think they can get away with less quality/less development costs in this day and age. It ain't gonna happen.

The Gamecube's press was crap. Nintendo really dropped the ball on that one and I felt they were really trapped in that conservative mindstate of gauranteed profit over taking some risks.

Well the whole concept of the Wii from top to bottom is considered a risk when you look at how the hype is going towards processing power and graphics.

So Nintendo has to open up their pocket books and get after it here. It will be interesting. I don't think Nintendo ever pressed a product like this. They shouldn't have waited until after the gamecube to realize that the name Nintendo doesn't mean its gonna sell.

#6 I totally agree! And that should cause the install base to be much larger than the GC. Given that and the fact that development costs should be cheaper I'm hoping to see more innovative games that, while not visually awe inspiring, will really push gameplay to the next generation.

The only thing blantanly obvious is your fanboism. You are a true dumbass if you think Wii graphics will be gamecube.

If you didn't notice, these games were just gamecube games ported over to the new system (yes, it is not just TP).

It's an opinion based on some evidence, nothing more. They really don't add anything to the debate, We all get to wait and see regardless.

PS2 market share > PSP market share is more depressing than NES market share through MORE THAN 1 GENERATION.

Add in the fact that Sony only sold around 50-60 ps1s and ps2s, nintendo's market share is actually higher the pass few generations.

I won't deny that Wii probably won't have the longevity of the PS3 and 360... but that's because Nintendo will take its success and build on it. They have their foundation, and as long as they make the next generation back compatible with Wii and Gamecube, and allow transfers of VC purchases, they'll be fine. They have just gotten their foot in the door- don't think they won't use that leverage to get a souped up HD Wii2 onto the market in 2009.

Actually I think PS3 sales are in the biggest danger of dropping, once the hype dies down and the early adopters have it, it'll end up like the 360, straining to reach 10 million by next year

Most people I talk to reconize PS3 before they reconize Wii. But they also think the system sells for no more than $299 and have no clue about the control system Wii uses. As time passes and people get a look at the price tags and what Wii has the capability for, in terms of control, I expect Nintendo will find a hit on their hands. While Sony tries desperately to drop the price due to lackluster sales.

If sony gets some great games on their hands they'll still sell well on the console. As you can see from yesterday, there's no shortage of people wanting to get one, even before they have blockbuster titles.

I hope to get a Wii, and also have a PS3 and 360, but i have a prediction with the Wii. Nintendo will go the same path as the handhelds. Every year or so they will change the Wii slightly, and possibly reducing cost along with it, in the hopes of selling like the DS and other Gameboys do where people will upgrade them.

There's no way the Wii will beat the PS3. The overwhelming majority of the hip-hop sheep and bling chasers will never buy the Wii. They're swayed by status symbols. The more expensive something is, the more they want it. Plain and simple. And unfortunately, western society is overrun with them.

It's quite sad, really.

The main thing that PS2 had going for it was the overabundance of games. Now that xbox and the wii have the game support it needs, ps3 is gonna have to rely on its over-priced power. The few decent marquis games that the ps3 has going for it you have to pay as you go. You have to buy courses and cars for Gran Turismo and the amount of money it would cost to unlock everything is around $400. What a ripoff. I'm a fan of sony and i want a ps3 but there's noway i will buy one because of sony's name. i think they will tank this time.

Who cares about how many consoles are sold? It doesn't matter to you unless the console is about to pull a Sega and go out of business. Does it really matter to you if Sony or Microsoft or Nintendo wins the console wars? Or are you just content with picking a system(s), playing it(them), and enjoying your life that doesn't hinge on a Corporation's successes or failures?

I'm afraid that the wii may face the same problems as the gamecube. Great, AAA, first party titles. Sub par 3rd party. To play devil's advocate a bit, what is everyone looking forward to on the wii besides the first party titles? There doesn't seem like there are many games that I would rather buy on the wii than I would on the 360 or ps3, besides first party. The first reviews are also pointing out that the controls are a bit hit or miss. I'll just be patient for now and wait to see what the wii has up its sleeve.

All right this needs to stop. Developers cant predict who's going to win, I can't predict who is going to win, not even you can predict who is going to win, Optimus Prime. Your opinions and predictions could just as likely turn false like everyone else's.

Optimus Prime, I have this one simple message for you. YOU CAN'T PREDICT THE FUTURE. GET OVER IT.

actually 'hi', it's not just you. judging by the comments it appears that practically everyone here is a reading impaired 'tard. try reading the linked article first before commenting on it. it works wonders for an on topic conversation. really.

"what is everyone looking forward to on the wii besides the first party titles?"

What is everyone looking forward to on the wii besides the third party titles?

At least in Wii's case, their IP will never leave off the console. In PS3's case, they can, and in many situations, already lost their only reason to buy the console, 3rd party games.

What basis do you have for assuming that all future Wii games will be sequels of launch titles? The Wii will be getting Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl next year. If one of those games or another of that caliber arrives around Christmas, it'll hold its own well enough.

TURN OFF THE HYPE MACHINE FOR JUST A SECOND! It is too early to tell which system will "win". Nintendo already said that they will most likely be a second console, which is technically better than being first. This way fanboys and non fanboys alike can't resist buying the system and that way they will have a larger install base rather than catering to specific demographics like 360 and PS3. If they do manage to keep this install bas throughout the Wii life cycle then BigN will have successfully set the stage for WiiHD. The dubious wiimote is yet to fully sway me now, but hopefully Metroid Prime 3 and 3rd party devs deliver on their promises.

If 360 would stop bricking, Microsoft got rid of that damn turdbox of a coresystem, and offered a 100GB HD and lowered the premium price then Microsoft would be on its way to full monopolizing our lives. I have to admit, at this point XBOX Live cannot be beat.

I don't trust Sony this round because they disappointed me with their product quality. Since 2000, I have gone through a broken PS1, PS2 and about 6 DualShocks. On top of that, I was one of the unfortunate victims of the infamous "Sony Demo Disc of DEATH" that unknowingly reformatted my memory cards. (1000+ hrs down the shthole). The only products that work (SO FAR) are my PSone and PStwo. Moral of the story...If you buy a PS3 now other than to flip it, then you are a jackass. Wii is a so inexpensive that it's worth the risk. 360 is multiplayer heaven and is taking Sony's former exclusives. Wait for the PSthree, you will thank me later.

WINNER= WiiHD
